Crawler won't return to level after a sharp turn

The shocks are most probably the issue here. There was a post years ago about shocks, angle of mounted shock, shock oil weight, etc. Unfortunately I can't find the post. Basically, with a specific spring rate, the spring will provide the most force when mounted vertically. As the shock is leaned over, the spring force decreases, even with the same spring. Something to do with geometry and physics I believe. As you lean the shock over, you need to use a lighter weight oil. Changing the shock angle allows for some minor shock tuning without having to replace the shock springs to a higher or lower spring rate. Without knowing the spring rate of the springs on these shocks it will be a little bit harder to pick a set of springs that will give you a higher spring rate.

I would say all four (4) shocks have the same issue as you're seeing it on both sides, right and left. As already mentioned, check each shock for damage, but if only one shock had damage (bent shock shaft maybe), I would suspect it wouldn't show up the way you're seeing it now. I'm with JimrC and AnimalHippie suggesting taking the shocks off, checking for oil in the shocks, how does the shock move without the springs, etc. If there is no oil in the shocks, I'm suggesting starting out with a really light shock oil, like 10wt.

Good luck.
Thanks. That's my plan this weekend. I have some 10wt coming and will start messing around with it then. I was thinking it may be somewhat weather dependent also since its been coldish (mid 40's) I'm at and the truck sits in my shop with no heat. The shocks all cycle smoothly, but I haven't pulled the springs to check. I'll give updates once I get them apart.

Thanks for everyones input.

Definitely the shocks and the lay down position do not allow them to extend and push the chassis back to level. If they were more standing upright you would have less of a problem with it. All of our E10’s have done that. That’s is a typical charismatic charm of a TVP. The torque twist is another, you can actually flip the trans on the other side and then run the motor in reverse, it helps but does kit take it away. Still one of my favorite trucks to lend out and have people bash on them.

Also putting your shocks on the outside of the chassis and swapping the lower mounting (to correspond with the top) helps a bit too. Also your rear steer could be hitting the lower links while turning. A simple bend will clear them. Just make sure you are bending them at the same spot.

I’ll do the rebuild this weekend and maybe pickup some shock keys to relocate them more vertical.

I try to barely use the rear steer and made sure the new wheels arent hitting the links. The old wheels and tires beat those links like a rented mule tho.

ok there are 3 big problems i see here
1 cheap shocks
2 scale body on a crawler chassis
3 the stock everest 10 chassis sucks donky apples
all easy fixes but your gonna need to make some decisions
you really should read the everest 10 thread every mod and every problem has been gone over in detail
also the everest 10 is a clone of the axial ax10 so read up on the ax10 crawlers also

my everest 10 is one of my oldest and most capable rigs by far the best mod was a new chassis i cut out of a old cutting board lol
there isent anything left from the original e10 anymore but it started as a e10
i try to run redcat bodys on it just for the hay of it though lol

lol. Thanks for the honest opinion. Lol
When you say the shocks suck, are you talking about the stock shocks or the ones on it now, the Pro-Line pro spec?

the ones in the picture look stock but if there proline shocks there not cheap but dosent mean there any better
there are alot of threads on how to set up shocks so they work good alot of times they arent set up right out of the box so you have to put some work in to make them work

anyway i found the e10 thread

Awesome. Thanks.

Today’s findings: Shocks were only 1/2 full of oil. When I topped them off with oil with 20wt. they wouldn’t cycle. Apparently, 1/2 is what they needed. Truck now returns to level, unless under load (torque twist). Tire still gets stuck under the body, but only if I doing full throttle donuts.

Regarding the recommendation to check the links, that was a good call. The heim joint fell out of the end link when I pulled the screws on three of the lower links, all at the axle. So yeah, there’s that. Lol.

Aerosol Graphite dry lube is nasty when wet but works well. Run the links till they rip out or get super sloppy, then replace them with better ones.
