Every time I see this I get hungry for a BLT with extra B... "thumbsup"

PETA's whole thing is exposure, regardless whether you agree or not, and it worked pretty well in this case. That image has been shared everywhere and I've seen it on the news as well.

Welcome to winter...

Yesterday we had our first good snow storm here in the PNW. It was heavy wet snow, neither my snow thrower or ATV liked moving the stuff. During the night they plowed the main highways, but they did not put anything down on the roads after plowing. This morning the roads were skating rinks. You'd figure up here they'd have this crap down by now, but, up here in North Retard, it takes them at least two or three good storms before they remember to do this. If they are not going to put something down on the roads after plowing, they shouldn't plow at all, the roads are safer.

Even if they do put something down after plowing, it still backfires in many cases., as the melt will flash freeze on the pavement. I've never understood why they don't just leave the damn snow there. I love driving in snow, but my shit doesn't leave the garage when it's ice.

gonna have to disagree here. I live roughly 7-8 miles into Vermont. Every time it snows, I go toward the MA border on plowed, but slippery roads. As soon as I hit the MA border, the roads are completely clear. Why? Because Vermont is too goddamned cheap to put down any treatment. MA isn't.

Montana, Idaho are the same.... The budget for different states is probably the determining factor.... So the roads are always plowed, and the roads treated. We often have wet roads, but not icy.

Oscar loves trash so much that he lives in the trashcan, he's not "homeless". The character's context is that she's a kid that doesn't understand why she's moving from house to house whenever the other kids always go back to the same place.

I know what you're saying, just as kids growing up and watching SS , just thought he was homeless UNTIL of course we all grow up and become adults and realize what he/everyone is on sesame street.

Yup, familiar with your area too, my mother-in-law lives there.

OMG!!! This is funny as fornication....

//RANT ON

Seriously though, does a 4y/o really need to be blasted with the concepts of homelessness? How about sexuality? How about just entertaining them at their level while teaching them stuff like counting, letters and how to share?

//RANT OFF

Why shouldn't they? If my 5 year old niece understands that grandma isn't coming back then surely the kids can understand that sometimes they have to move houses until they might one day have a place to stay for as long as they want. That statistic in the article is kind of alarming, there's 2.5 million homeless kids and 50% are under the age of 6.

Kids don't completely understand death.

I also think children can't deal with most social issues at that age nor should they have to. They're children. Let them be kids without throwing agendas their way. I mean can't we at least wait until they're past Sesame Street age?

Yeah, just like they don't completely understand being homeless. That doesn't mean you can't simplify the concept for them to at least have a very basic understanding of it. Plus what "agenda" are we worried about, awareness of homelessness?

Here in the Midwest, more specifically Chicagoland, we mix beet juice in with the salt during the spreading. Beet juice doesn't freeze. We've used it in temps below 0 and it still cuts the ice. Salt on it's own only cuts the ice to 19 degrees. Calcium Chloride mixed with the salt is only good to 15 degrees, plus it's more corrosive. Beet juice, like salt, is natural + biodegradeable.

When we would clean the trucks out after the storm using the calcium chloride, the remaining salt in the bed would come out in clumps and boulders that required crushing before it could be used again. With beet juice, there's no clumping.
