Rant Thread

Yeah, just like they don't completely understand being homeless. That doesn't mean you can't simplify the concept for them to at least have a very basic understanding of it. Plus what "agenda" are we worried about, awareness of homelessness?

I'm not not necessarily saying this homeless thing is an agenda, but I could easily see it being spun as a "feel bad for them so that you help them" socialistic spin. I'm also not going to say it isn't without agenda without seeing it. Sesame Street has had agendas in episodes in the past.

Why shouldn't they? If my 5 year old niece understands that grandma isn't coming back then surely the kids can understand that sometimes they have to move houses until they might one day have a place to stay for as long as they want. That statistic in the article is kind of alarming, there's 2.5 million homeless kids and 50% are under the age of 6.

I humbly disagree. Life throws enough crap at kids as it is, pushing agendas and complex issues at them just piles on and makes them confused. Just let kids be kids, they will have to find out and deal with heavy issues like death when life throws it at them, we all did, and that is just the way it works. Just teach them compassion and empathy, and how to relate to others, when those other issues start effecting their lives, they'll be able to deal with it better.

gonna have to disagree here. I live roughly 7-8 miles into Vermont. Every time it snows, I go toward the MA border on plowed, but slippery roads. As soon as I hit the MA border, the roads are completely clear. Why? Because Vermont is too goddamned cheap to put down any treatment. MA isn't.

Here in the Midwest, more specifically Chicagoland, we mix beet juice in with the salt during the spreading. Beet juice doesn't freeze. We've used it in temps below 0 and it still cuts the ice. Salt on it's own only cuts the ice to 19 degrees. Calcium Chloride mixed with the salt is only good to 15 degrees, plus it's more corrosive. Beet juice, like salt, is natural + biodegradeable.

When we would clean the trucks out after the storm using the calcium chloride, the remaining salt in the bed would come out in clumps and boulders that required crushing before it could be used again. With beet juice, there's no clumping.

I obviously can't speak for everyone, everywhere. Or what kind of snow you get, or what they put on your roads. Just here where I live it generally seems to make it worse with whatever they use. Knowing NC, it's whatever is the cheapest shit they can get. It'll melt for a little bit, then what melted will re-freeze a lot of times into a sheet of ice on the bottom, which makes it much worse.

Same crap is used here in VA,

Its a conspiracy I tell you. The junk does nothing to improve roads but in fact makes them worse after they freeze, but it does dissolve your vehicles so you have to either buy replacement parts, or buy a new vehicle

There are some states, like yours^^, and for that matter here in Illinois, there are several counties south of Chicago that use cinders or sand as a traction medium, after the plow passes. If you get a closer look at the backside of the plow, you'll see a set of plowshoes that hang down far enough to ride on the surface of the road, but still leave a coating of snow on the road, and with the application of the cinders or sand, hopefully provide some sort of traction, but it doesn't always work, and it definitely is not a replacement for salt.

In the pic, it's the small black disc behind the blade

yea the feet on the plow. half the plow drivers dont check that because they get called out to push snow all day. they just want to clear their roads and go back home. I dont blame them. Its nerve racking pushing snow. People dont pay attention, tailgate you, think that 4wd makes them stop just as good as go in the snow.

Even hard pack snow has traction, adding sand late in the evening would help.

They use some chemical here, its sprayed on as a liquid typically several hours before the weather hits. Its pointless. as soon as anything melts it washes away and then the road freezes over. Even worse, the storm starts as rain and transitions into snow

Supposedly there is a biodegradable "brine" that does not corrode metal, lowers the temperature that water can freeze that they can put down but I believe it is quite expensive or back to the conspiracy--car washes and auto makers wont be getting a slice of the winter pie :D

Yep, that's what they do here. They treat the roads before hand, and it just makes it melt then re-freeze. Since it doesn't snow very often here, they're just not prepared for it like they are somewhere up north. Also, our snow tends to be a very wet heavy snow that lends itself to packing and freezing with the least bit of melt on top. When I lived up north it was a dry powdery snow normally, and they'd just let it lay and it was fine. We drove all over the place in rural Indiana on a base of just snow (on the back roads, they kept main roads and interstates cleared) and everybody did just fine.

Since when is helping the homeless a socialist issue? Wouldn't that be a basic humanitarian task?

So... I was at rehearsal on Monday. I needed to edit some stuff on my AX8, but I wasn't getting a connection to my laptop for some reason... I investigate last night and find that the last time I unplugged the USB cable from it (printer style USB), the pin holder on the port came out with my cable! To make matters worse, I didn't realize this when I went to plug into it again. I ended up "smooshing" the four exposed USB pins, thus making the port inoperable. I sent an email off to Fractal and hopefully they can rectify this quickly. The unit is only three weeks old.

I dont really mind this but thought I'd just rant a lil bit. I ordered some food from the taco truck out front of our business and for the 4th or 5th time I ordered pork and got chicken, now I dont really mind but would it hurt for them to say "we're all out of pork is chicken okay?"

You ever see an RC ad on FB or Craig's, and want to ask the seller what flavor of Tide pods they are smoking?

There is an ad locally for a 2WD XL5 Slash with 2.8's on it, if everything is working fine, and not too beat up, I am thinking somewhere around $125, this fool has it listed for $300...

They did. Thankfully Fractal is only a 1/2 drive from me, so I was able to go to their shop and they swapped the whole unit for a new one.

Saw one by me that wanted $700 for a Tamiya TA02 which is nowhere near rare or highly sought after in the realm of old Tamiyas. It was RTR with only the finest bottom of the barrel electronics from 1998 for that low, low price! If you got it for $150, that is still probably too much.

My country get invaded every summer by "homeless" and beggars from a slew of former eastern Europe countries on the wrong side of the wall that is sadly gone now.
Along side these come hard core and extremely violent robbers, when in action often against elderly / sick people, the police say " it is a wonder no one was killed"
So now we have new laws in place, which seem to hurt Danish homeless people harder than it hit the visiting homeless, it is a pretty fawked up law but what can you expect when fawked up people are the ones making laws.

Just like refugees from the other side of the world making it all the way to here, then homeless / beggars from far away i cant really accept one bit, and what i want to do,,,, well i cant tell as i am not allowed to think or say such thing in this country of free speech.

If my country ( Denmark ) turned to shit, i would.
1: die right then and there trying to change that.
2: be forced to flee to the nearest safe country ( Sweden or Germany / UK / Norway ) to regroup there and return to fight and possible die to fix my country.

I would not go to Australia and ask for refugee status there, that would turn me into a kind of "refugee" i do not acknowledge myself.

Does Slovakia fall into that?

Academy Awards...

So, I was watching the news this morning, and they were talking about the host situation for this year's awards. The whole story got me instantly annoyed because they were filling up the 15 minutes I watch news in the morning with this crap.

I have never watched the Academy Awards, and cannot think of a single time in my life when I cared about the whole affair at all. I have always seen the Oscars as a platform for those with over-inflated egos to get puffed up a bit more. Am I alone in this?

Second Rant... Trains...

My trek to and from work takes me across fairly active train tracks. Normally it isn't that big of a deal getting stopped at a crossing, gives me time to check news and weather on my phone. This morning was a little different. This morning's train was a long slow moving bastard that stopped twice and backed up once. We finally saw the last of the train about 25 minutes after the crossing gates lit up and went down, to me, that is just a bit excessive.

I don't watch the Oscars or any other award show because, most of the time, the awards are based more on a studio's lobbying skills than the actual merit of the picture/performance. Plus, it's not like watching a sporting event, where you watch everything unfold. You can get the same value reading about it after the fact.

I don't care about Oscars or actors in general. Most of these people are fake to the core.

I care about people that make this world a better place.

I like trains, but I agree with your rant.

During rush hour, hold the damn freights until after the morning rush. We have a community here that all the east-west roads (4), intersect with a grade crossing at 3 different places within a 6 mile stretch, with the one furthest east being a commuter line, and when it holds up traffic, it's because there is a station located at the same intersection. Screws up the traffic lights as well.
