Rant Thread

Turn signals. Take a look at the name. They are a signal to other drivers that you are about to turn. If you start braking before you put on your turn signal you are an idiot. Put on the turn signal to warn people you are about to change course, then brake a couple of seconds after putting on your turn signal, and then turn. I don't understand why it's so difficult.

Those idiots are still better than the scumbags that refuse to use turn signals. I wish cars would taze the shit out of the driver for not using turn signals - not to the point of a loss of control, but to the point of pain where they don't want to do it again.

I'd invest heavily in that technology. Where do I sign up?

Following on the idiot driver trend, I'm so tired of being tailgated. For about a week straight on my way home I would have someone 15 feet off my bumper, didn't matter if I was going the limit or 10 mph over. It's also common that as soon as this person gets behind me, they'll be making a turn within 1 mile anyways. It's gotten to the point that I have thought about creating a James Bond contraption attached to the rear bumper that just flings a spike strip onto the road behind me.

On the highway, if I go to pass a semi on the right going 55 and I get on the left going 75, someone appears out of nowhere behind me going 90. Then as soon as we get passed the semi and I put on my signal to get back out of their way, they pass me on the right like we're in a NASCAR race.

Or the people that pull out in front of you close enough to where you have to slam on your brakes, despite there not being a single car behind you, and then they turn at the next road. They couldn't have waited to pull out behind me?!

There was a guy that was tired of close calls with distracted drivers so he put a cellphone jammer in his car. This is a genius idea and it should be implemented into cars instead of having Bluetooth built in. Of course the FCC tracked him down and fined him $48,000. I think he should have gotten a gold medal.

I've been experiencing the "I'm going to drive 5 under until you try to go around me", and the "GTFO of the way I'm in a hurry! Oh, thanks for moving over, now I'm just going to move into your blind spot and sit there".

I could only emphatically echo all of the above and say hell, yeah.

Dude in the Camaro was an asshat ultimately, but the guy in the contractor truck should be whipped:

Bad Friends.

Last night I got off the ice at about 7:30 hopped in the truck, headed for home, 5Mins down the road the old half ton decides to eject a spark plug out of the block, taking an ignition coil with it...so I call a buddy (used to be a good buddy) to see if he still had a coil from when intended get me to replace a burned out one on his truck. He had the part, but wouldn’t sell it to me, wouldn’t even let me have it until today, when I could replace it with a new one. He says he is trying to sell the truck and the part needs to go with it, after I gave up trying to negotiate with him over a $55 part I ended up calling a flat bed tow truck to come a pick up my 1/2ton truck to the tune of $500 smackers, it would have been $250 cheaper to get it towed back to the town where I was skating, But then I’d have to hire someone to take me to go get it.

Now I know it’s not his problem, but a small helping hand would’ve been great considering I was broke down 10mins from his house, I was still a hour away from mine.

I understand the idea but he did end up messing with the cell tower on his daily commute, plus the whole jammer thing is pretty indiscriminate and could mess with emergency vehicles near him. The thought was there but the execution is like going fishing with an RPG.

Along those lines...

When I'm on the highway and I decide to pass someone and all of the sudden they speed up and match my passing speed...

Separate rant...

When someone laments how "unfair" it is that pro athletes make so much money while our troops/police officers/teachers are so underpaid. Well... There is no correlation between a pro athlete and the other professions you nit-wits!!! Troops/police/teachers don't go without because Khalil Mack is making 141 million. The free market determines what these guys get paid. No market revenue, no big payday.

The irony of this sentiment that athletes should get paid less so the latter group can get more is that it reeks of socialism... You know? That evil thing that should not manifest itself in the USA.

Looks like the Camaro and contractor truck drivers were competing to see who would win the Douche of the Year award. Both of those truckers in that video should have made sure the Camaro and contractor truck drive were ok after the crash, then broke out the tire irons and beat the crap out of them.

I don't think anyone is saying that teachers should make 6mil a year. It's more about paying someone that amount of money each year to throw/catch a ball, and the idolization of those people is insane. But it's our own fault, because people continue to buy tickets, memorabilia, NFL Sunday ticket on satellite, etc. Nobody with any common sense is going to take anyone seriously that talks out both sides of their mouth.

The guy talking on his cell phone while driving gets whipped just like the others. Kudos to GA for having enough sense to make that a fineable offense while in your car at any time other than in a parking lot. Handsfree or nothing in GA, or pay the price. Mythbusters proved years ago that it's more dangerous than being legally intoxicated.

We have a "hands free" law in NH, too. It would be nice if it was actually enforced...

It's still a dumb argument because there is no cause and effect. If these guys didn't make all that money, the teachers/troops ect would still be in the same boat.

That wasn't my point. My point is, we idolize the wrong people to look up to, our children included. Less than 1% of the population will become a sports superstar making mega bucks. But everyone in some way depends on those others, as well as doctors, dentists, etc. Not to mention the people that do manual labor each and every day for the things we all depend on like housing, roads, etc.

A friend of mine is a certified welder, makes DAMN good money working nuclear power plant jobs. He told me a few years ago, that when his generation is gone, we're facked. They were all sitting around eating lunch one day, and the average age was close to 50 years old. Nobody is pursuing trades anymore because core curriculum bullshit being pushed in schools tells every kid they need to go to college. Regardless of whether they're qualified to cut it in college, or can afford it, it's still being shoved down their throats anyway. And the teachers that actually care hate that shit, and will explain why it's so wrong. Student debt for useless degrees that won't net you a career for starters. But maybe that kid pursued that degree because others were just too hard for them, or they didn't need to go to college to begin with.

One of these days, what happens when there is nobody to repair the nuclear power plants, build or repair roads, bridges, etc?

That's a lack of judgment on the parents and the child who took on that commitment. If you can't be honest about your child's strengths and limitations, it is a disservice to your child.

Maybe it's different up here. Vocational schools were where the "dummies" went when I was a kid. Now, there is a lottery every year to get placement. This also means that they will send a kid back to the regular high-school if they aren't performing. My oldest step-daughter is a junior at the local tech school, but she is getting a conventional college prep education as well as studying culinary.

Here's a new double rant, particularly related to poor netiquette on this forum:

1. People who ask a question, receive an articulate, on-point answer (or several) and then ignore the answer(s), only to re-ask the same question again; or worse, complain about the answer(s) they received because they weren't as detailed or specific as they wanted. The first thing emitted from your keyboard should be "Thank you", followed by more detail if a more specific question should have been asked to begin with.

3. People who post wanting particular things, receive offers of the exact thing requested, and then ignore the responses, merely posting "still looking". Try "Thank you, not exactly what I was looking for", followed by some more detail so people don't waste their time offering you things when you yourself don't even seem to know what you want.

Notice a pattern here, you-know-who-you-are?
