So I bet you are wondering why its called "aircraft carrier creeper build" well thats cuz i am am deloyed right now to the middle east floating around on a giant chunk of steel called the USS Abraham Lincoln. When your deployed for 8 months you gotta have something to do in your free time or you will lose your mind, well i decided to build a crawler! I used to race stadium trucks back in the 90's but i got out the hobby for awhile so now im diving back in with my first crawler build. After tons of internet research i decided to go with the creeper because of the reviews on how well it crawled so i ordered the kit and a month later(shipping to a navy ship sucks) i had it. started the build it went together really well kit was complete no missing parts or screws then after more internet reasearch i stopped to wait for more parts. Heres the parts list so far:

venom creeper kit red
tekin fxr 45t combo
ckrc stage 2 suspension (modified)
ckrc bta steering kit (modified)
5x turnigy 1300mah 3s 30c w/deans
ccbec 10a
hr lockouts
hr chubs
hr knuckles(not in use ckrc bta kit has different ones)
spektrum dx3c and rx
savox 1256tg servo
wite dot rovers (on the way)
ckrc drive shafts

This thing is turning out to be way more expensive than what i first expected but i got the bug and i havent even crawled this thing yet!
i have modified many things on it after reading through RMDW's post mainly and everyone else's post have really helped me out! the only thing that sucks is that i am only waiting on deans plugs to drive it and that i am not gonna have the opportunty to test and tune on rocks while im out here so i have read through so many post that have been modded throught trial and error and have applied those to my build!
This is the mods ive done so far:

custom rear axle plate for upper link mounts
tig welded rear cvd pins for use with hr lockouts
ckrc stage 2 but modified
ckrc bta kit modified (thinking of getting rid of this due to the way the shocks have to mount)( maygo with RMDW's otl kit)
both diffs have washer mod(going to upgrade to hd diff case and lockers)
cut and siped stock tires (white dots on the way)
cut down battery tray for center support and rx mounting
shaved screw holes off of both pumpkins
rear bent link style skid on pumpkin
custom plastic tranny skid

Thats all i can think of right now if theres any more i will follow up. Like i said i havent even driven this thing just waiting on deans plugs! i am going to build some type of course out of pallets in hangar bay to do some testing and bashing but until then i could use all the input i can. this is my first post so let me know if i can improve my thread! pics pics pics i know everyone likes pics i have many and they are coming soon! navy computers are funny so takes a bit! the pic below was a test pic to see if i could figure out this code thing! thats my truck and the stig photo shopped in! lol!

Looks like a great first post prozac! From the sounds of it you are using mods from a few diff threads. You will love the way it crawls! You may miss out on realizing what all the mods do for it, as we get to crawl an change an crawl an change.. you just got to do all the changing an mods without seeing what each mod does for it.. what the hay tho, building an tinkering is a big part of it! The crawling is just to see what you built.. an hopefully once you get ur deans plugs you will be worse off with the bug then you are now... Lol.. will be waiting for pics to see how she turned out... Welcome to our sickness!

thanks winnerone ive read so many post and seen people get flamed so i am trying to take everything ive learned and apply it to this build thread. and you are right about the tinkering thing the guys in my shop a;ways give me chit about always tinkering on it but i love it and ive never drove the thing! and the pics are being uploaded to photo bucket right now have to do them one at a time navy internet is not the best when we are in the middle of the ocean!

Welcome aboard the Creeper world, good rig to build on and a great performer too.
With the kind of machine shop you have on your giant floating city it should'nt be too hard to heavily modify your crawler , Thanks for ya'll's service Prozac and stay safe.
By the way, what are you gonna crawl on on that ship?

your right about the machine shop on here i work with the airframers and they have an awesome shop and all the aluminum i could ever need and one of the guys is into rc so he likes to help me out! about the crawling stuff i was thinking about tearing apart some pallets and rigging up a makeshift course also on the hatches there are what we call "knee knockers" but you might know them as thresh holds but there are some that i am planning on conquering. but i really cant wait to get on some actuall rocks to see how all my hard work has paid off and actually learn how to drive and learn how this thing crawls! and your welcome! its hard being away from everyone i love but its a good feeling to protect all the things we do back in the states like ROCK CRAWLING!

ok so here are some pics from when i first put the wheels on and i was excited to take some poser shots!

more pics to come takes forever to upload to photobucket!

Ya got a good start "thumbsup", you'll quickly fall out of love with the stock chassis fast though, they flex so bad with the chinese aluminum.
You'll be looking for better shocks too soon.
I think it takes a long time to get parts here sometimes, I can only imagine the wait you'll have.

looks very nice prozac "thumbsup" and thank you for all youve done to protect the ones that u dont even know "thumbsup"

Pics look awesome! Boy that thing sure crawls those knee knockers! Hahahaha, pics are very convincing... I just got that chassis creeperbob is talking bout today.. I'm lovin it already an its not even on the rig yet! Thanks for picking the navy.. Haha my moms whole side is navy, my uncle retired master chief of his ship.. Butters, bein his last name... Can't wait to see the out come of some of the parts ur goin to make!

yeah i noticed some chassis flex without the batt tray in so i shaved it down to look like a roof rack or something and put it in the middle two holes and attached to the tranny. i plan on doing the RMDW chassis down the road but i really need to drive this thing before i completely upgrade to rmdw everything! so im gonna wait on that and the shocks til i get home and can do some crawling on real rocks. i think im gonna try the stock tires too before i put on the rovers just to see the difference.

i guess everyone is using the losi 4" shocks? correct me if im wrong but they are shorter than the stockers right? wouldnt that limit your flex?

so here are some pics of the tranny skid i made and the bent link skid for the rear pumpkin. dont know how well it will work but i saw it and thought i was genius. in these the rear lowers arent straitened out yet but they are now.

I love it...Upgrades on before it's even driven! I think I've had 1 r/c that was'nt upgraded before driven...stock is just wrong, lol.
...But for sure try out those Rideglines before switching over to the Rovers..huge difference.
I to thank you for your services!

Most are running the Losi 4" but I really have no idea why.... they leak! A better option are the Traxxas xxlong big bores. I'll be switching to them sometime in the near future.

Yes, either the losi 4,s or traxxas big bores are shorter and will limit your flex on the stock chassis.....unless you make custom mounts. Those shocks on a rmdw chassis you'll then have all of your flex back. In the r/c crawling world, there is such a thing as too much flex....once you get out crawling on things you'll be able to see why. You'll at times want a tire free suspending in air rather than flexed to the ground.

yeah your right about stock stuff! its not in me to have anything stock! did you see my truck? lol! anyways yeah i can imagine that too much flex would just bind up the whole rig but it sure is cool looking though! this might be a dumb ? but how do you quote people like that?

In the lower right hand corner of each post you'll see a "quote" icon, click that and it'll open up to a new message box with the quoted post you selected.
If you want to quote multiple post then you'll do the same as mentioned above, write your reply, but wait untill you hit 'send'. Instead of hitting send, copy everything in the message box ( your post quote and reply). Then hit cancel and quote your 2nd post that you want to reply to. When that quote pops up in a new message box 'paste' your first quote and reply before your now 2nd quote.....then continue typing your 2nd reply under 2nd quote. If that's all your wanting to quote then just hit send. You can keep doing this as many times as you want and it'll all show up as 1 post from you.
