Prodigal JK Project

Re: Prodigal JK---New Sliders---

I'm liking the looks of these sliders much better"thumbsup" Last night I added a plate to the bottom to make them sliiiiiiide better.

in hind sight my last design should not have been called "sliders"...maybe "hangers")

Re: Prodigal JK---Now Topless Baby!---

After much thought...and hesitation...I decided to cut the hardtop off of the Jeep. There is NO way I am going to hide all of the work that will go into the interior and cage work.

So out came the Dremel:mrgreen:

I took the rollcage off of my Dingo body to get some ideas and see if it would fit. It ended up being a little too long (front to back) and the front/middle posts of the cage didnt come down far enough (top to bottom). It could be modded pretty easy to fit but I'm just not digging the plastic. I REALLY like how the Jeep looks with a rollcage and no top though so...metal it is

YES! I am so glad you cut the top off and tried the dingo cage. I was thinking of doing the same thing but didn't know if it would fit right on the 2-door. I might try the 4-door this way. You are right though, Jeeps look best topless. Can't wait to see the final "thumbsup"

yeah I was a little hesitant at first w/ the Dremel, but 2 seconds into it was already too late to turn back! the Dingo cage would be doable. A few of the challenges were going to be lenghthing the posts downwards, shortening the whole thing a bit and mounting the stinking thing. Enough work that I fugured I will put the time and effort into a stout brazed cage:mrgreen:
I'm not sure how the 2dr and 4dr compare.

Re: Prodigal JK---Now Topless Baby!---

Just for reference, the 4 door jeep seems to be a skinnier body. So the dingo cage might be a little wide for it. But I've never owned a dingo or 4 door jeep body, so I'm really not sure. I've just been around each and when I got my 2 door wrangler I felt like it is really wide (it would make sense to keep the proportions right)

Thanks steele42-that makes sense. The Dingo body seems huge. I felt like the Proline 2dr was out of scale at first (seems like its ALL hardtop). The Dingo cage is perfect forr the 2dr as far as the width.

I was planning on using 3/16 tubing for my tube work but it seems too small on this body I think. I made the slider in 1/4" and they seem right to me. Doesn't really matter what is typical size if it isnt scaled to the body I guess, huh?

Well my fancy pants inner fender wells arent going to work...not enough clearance to do anything now that it is topless. Dangit, going backwards again!

Re: Prodigal JK---Now Fenderless!---

At first I thought you bought a kit of extended fender flares. Nice work on the cuts. Are you going to build some cage work for fenders?

Hey Brother-I was hoping you would chime in! Yeah, the fender flares seemed too big already, definately wouldnt want to add to them. Cage work is soon...tube fenders, front and rear bumpers too.

Hope you dont mind that I copied the design we came up for your rig for my sliders...I LOVE 'em:razz:[/Front bumper should be finished pretty soon.

Re: Prodigal JK---Now Fenderless!---

I was able to do some fab work/brazing and got the front bumper done. I still want to do a grille guard and push bar but I will do that later.

Sheet metal and some steel

Man little brother, nice metal work. I know this is premature, I am excited to see how well your dash will look.

Thanks buddy.
Yeah the interior is going to be interesting....especially the dash.(going to be a pain)

Re: Prodigal JK-New Front Bumper---

I figured I better make a tubing bender since I have a lot of cage work to do. This bender that Bob1961 posted looked the most simple and efficient. Thanks for the idea Bob!

Re: Prodigal JK-New Front Bumper---

Got a front tube fender done...I'm going with the 1/4" brake line for this body. I know it isn't typical but it looks better to me. The 3/16" just seems too small.

By the way, the bender works awesome! Cost me $7 to make it.

Re: "Prodigal JK"-Project-Updated Bumper
