Long ago (more than 13 years ago!), I had about 12 or so go-fast R/C vehicles.
Nitro Associated RC10GT, an (obviously) nitro T-Maxx, multiple electric stadium trucks, an electric monster truck, and multiple Tamiya electric on-roads in belt-drive and shaft drive and FWD versions.
Oh, and even a nitro-powered Tamiya on-road...
Then, on a weekend where I was at my then-girlfriend's place for the weekend, about half of my apartment complex burnt down.
Along with those R/Cs, you can probably imagine how many spares, uninstalled upgrades, unpainted bodies, tools, and other support items I lost.
Kept me out of the hobby for ages...
Was too depressed to start over again - and I'd already been tapering off because I was tired of the too-serious attitudes at the local tracks.
A little before the fire I had wanted to pick up a crawler to try out, I had seen the Axial Scorpion on the shelves - back then Axial still made nitro engines, too!
So when I finally decided to get back into the hobby I stuck purely with crawlers for quite a while.
Later, I bought a AE Nomad DB8 1/8th buggy, a Traxxas 4-tec 2.0, a Tamiya M-08, and a silly little WPL kei truck.
I never run any of them anymore - only the crawlers.
Oh, man...I seriously feel for ya. A loss like that (and, I'm not referring to the dollar value) can be deviations devastating. Thankfully, I've never had to deal with such a situation...and, hopefully, be I never do...but, be I know others who have.
Among those who lost their houses in the Coffey Park fire that destroyed a good-sized section of Santa Rosa, CA, a few years, were some family friends who own 1600 acres along the north end of Santa Rosa. On that land, they operate a western-themed summer camp for kids. Of the 30 horses, all but 2 were saved. However, most of the camp buildings, as well as the three houses, were completely burned down. The barn & stables were also completely destroyed.
A few weeks after the fire was 100% contained, I took a drone up there, and did aerial photography of the land. I took over 500 photos, and then 'stitched' them together, into one giant photo photo file. They were able to turn that over, asking with an aerial survey photo done three years earlier, to the insurance company. Surveying that land on foot could have taken them weeks...I was able to do it for them in less than a few hours, saving them LOTS of time, and money (no, I didn't charge them at all...not one dime). They lost a lot of what they held dearest. The husband & wife that own the property...the wife's parents (whom I had also known, back when I was a kid) had built the entire camp.
Yes, it was a huge financial loss...but, the personal loss was far greater. That's how I can understand the situation you went through. On the 'plus' side, you found a way back into enjoying RC, and that's what matters. It didn't matter of you're the fastest, or the slowest...as long as you're enjoying it, and bringing joy to others through RC, that's what matters. [emoji1688]
