Official MTB / Mountain Biking Chit Chat

This is great "thumbsup".
I hate turning bricks or having lead legs, sometimes those first laps are a test of your will... you beat the demon, good job.

I use every trick in the books to get my legs ready for, or recovered from riding. Research Leg drains as a start, it's an old runners wives tale also. I've had great results with light stretching say 20-30 min before my rides.

Do you have a hear rate monitor? That's a fun graph to look at after a group ride.

I did a 30 mile ride tonight and got treated to this in the closing miles.

Yes, sometimes the first bit or even half a ride can be this way.

Good on the light stretching.

Sweet ride with a great picture! I love ending rides at or near sunset.

Another thing to consider is easy spinning early in the ride to warm up. I've passed many a rider during races and rides because they go hauling ass out of the gate without any kind of warming up and then burn out a few miles into it.

^^I'll keep that in mind for tomorrow's ride, more climbing than usual tomorrow too. Learning to pace myself is the hardest thing yet with getting back into cycling.

Just entered thanks... If I win, I'll drive there to pick it up, and make it a vacation for riding. I've always wanted to visit and ride in Co. "thumbsup"

Entered here also, thanks! About to go show the supermoto some love, it's been neglected since getting back into cycling.

I use the wife's foam roller to help with the legs. My legs are always sore from crossfit and if I don't use the roller, the bike ride is MUCH slower....

Just entered. Thanks for posting it.

Scooch your butt forward on the seat a few inches, this transfers your weight and will make the climb a little easier. stay seated and pick a gear so you can keep a good steady cadence.

:???::x:shock: And more :shock:

^^^ Yikes.
Climbing is a very subjective thing, meaning one subjects themselves to the joy and the pain of it. There is no cheating, don't fight the bike, it is without a doubt, the place where position matters most. All of ones flaws will show here.

Climbing is most efficient Staying neutral on the saddle, firm and straight in the trunk & back, focused in the mind and breath, steady in the shoulders, low in the heel .. Your proper bike fit will do the rest. Eyes forward, tongue pressed gently into the roof of your mouth while belly breathing, inhaling and exhaling completely.

Sure will. We do it here while being eaten alive by mosquitoes, some black flies, horse/deer flies, in a bunch of black mud. Dodging roots stumps and rocks, it's a party for sure.....but no Yoga class.

Ned Overend once said to keep telling yourself, "You enoy climbing, and you're good at it". Hard to swallow at first, especially when I didn't like climbing, and I wasn't good at it, but I kept telling myself that every time a climb came along. Now I really do enjoy climbing.

Don't beat yourself up mentally, or you will suffer physically.

Well, I bailed on the ride this morning as it looked like it was going to fall a flood any minute. Clouds are starting to break and the weather looks good so I'm headed out solo here in a few for some road miles, lots of climbing today and no worrying about time, just out enjoying some cycling.

My girlfriend and I didn't have much time for a ride, so we headed just south of us to Erie. It's mostly a sub-division town, but they've been working on some single track trails in the open space areas.

Nothing technical, but pretty fun since the grass was so high. It's hard to see in the pictures but, it's about shoulder high when riding.

^^Pretty cool CHUD

Went out for my ride earlier and learned a few things about road riding solo.

1. It's a LOT more work by yourself. You have no one to hammer a hole in the air for you and let you sit back and draft. No one else to motivate you, etc. It's all you.
2. WIND, wind sucks on a road bike unless it's tail wind. It eats up energy you could be using to pedal. Rode into a headwind the whole way home.
3. I need to eat better the day before, and stretch more pre-ride
4. And here's the big one; I'm still stopping around the same time I normally would rather than taking a longer break, and getting back on the bike and going on. Not sure if it's a mental trigger since that's my normal ride time, or if I was honestly out of gas or just caving from riding alone. It could also still be just having a hard time finding my pace, or just fitness period.

But, I still squeaked out 13.5 miles, and took a few pics since I was by myself and not in any hurry. I will say the solitude riding alone when no cars are around is kinda nice.
