So you bought and added 2 pawls with springs, what is the hub brand? BTW I found that some Tri-Flow in there was good, I tried several greases even light coat and it was not reliably engaging the hub.

EDIT: IIRC ended up with blend of Phil's Tenacious Oil and Tri-Flow...it doesn't require much.

They're the stock hubs on my SRAM roam 30's. SRAM won't sell you the pawls, gotta buy a whole new driver. BUT, a guy on MTBR figured out the Hope Pro 2 pawls are pretty much the same exact shape and profile, so for $18, you go from 26 to 52 POE. He's got I think around 1,000 miles on his he said with no issues.

SRAM should look at this as a business opportunity and sell the parts. Nice, gotta love MTBR and a little ingenuity. Hope is good stuff! very nice double up to 52 POE...I like it thanks for the tip!

No problem Nate. And they won't do it because that's the big selling point of the next weelset up the chain, the double time hub as they call it. Love my Hope hubs on the SS!

Point of engagement?

Yes, well, in this case, points. Basically comes down to how far the crank arm moves before the freehub locks in and propels you forward. The higher the POE the better for technical riding, and IMO, all riding, otherwise you're expending energy to do nothing.

Are there really more poe? I know there are 4 pawls now instead of 2 but if they engage at the same time the poe is the same. Or are they clocked so only one pair engages at a time, that way the poe would double but the strength of the engagement would be the same as 2 pawls.

That's why it's best to build or buy pre-built quality wheelset from a wheel builder, rather than buy the next up bike for better wheels. All the other components are usually what really benefits from the next up bike, the wheelset never as much.

Nice that they are clocked so that POE increases. Yes, gotta love Hope hubs, great quality product with lots of versatility at a good price. "thumbsup"

I must admit i,m loving my Reign
And to be honest i really wasn,t keen on Giant after breaking 2 AC1 frames about 15 years ago , and then another bad experiance with a Giant Big Hit ( the one with the 24 inch rear wheel)
But when my current reign came up for sale 2nd hand for $1000 ( don,t know about prices in America , but thats a bargain in Australia ) I jumped at it
I have replaced the wheels because i destroyed the rear , but in its defence it has copped a beating since i,ve owned it , doing everything from downhill , trail , XC and even skate park.
Its not particularly brilliant at anything but it does do everything reasonably well
One of my Riding buddies has a 2015 Giant Trance SX and its been bombproof aswell.
I,m now a Giant convert"thumbsup"

I'm hoping by this weekend I will have my bike back. Since the middle of January when I upgraded my Spartan it has lived mostly in the bike shop. First it was plagued with flats from going tubeless with my Maxxis tires and their little hairs and the rims I'm running. Now it is back because it has always had a skip in pedaling in the upper 3 gears that if you pushed it hard would skip a full crank rotation. After 2 weeks of being told I was going to be stuck buying new parts again, it seems the Chris King hub I'm running in the rear has a known issue of having to thick of grease not allowing the pawls to grab. So now the wait for thinner grease and a lot of praying my bike will be ride-able lol. Picked up my girlfriend a Juliana Furtado so now she is on me about getting my bike back lol.

I changed my mind on the bike I ordered, especially reading about failures of the rear section of the frame breaking since that's used as part of the suspension. So I brought in my Opus Strat to the bike shop, and it's going into the sale they're having next weekend (100% of the sale price goes towards your new bike), and I ordered a large 2016 Giant Trance 3.
