I couldn't have said it better myself. I've been in the hobby off and on since 1984 and after Vaterra shut down I decided to be a Traxxas-only guy for the all the reasons you mentioned. I've got a huge fleet of vehicles I can't really drive anymore because there are no parts - Ofnas, Thunder Tigers, Losis, Axials, a couple Vaterras, some Hobbyking crap, a couple Hobao 1/8 buggies. These are just the ones I can think of off-hand. The Ascender really broke my heart though, it was such a huge step up at the time from the SCX10 and the folks that used to hang out on this forum were a really great group. I love my short wheelbase Bronco, but I'll never be able to find another body for it... <sigh>
Thanks for replying, I actually came here to delete my post.
My point about not buying another HH product is going to be difficult since they own a large percentage of the industry. lol
Your point about the body is probably the most frustrating thing me.
When I came across this news shortly before I made my post I immediately began trying to find spares which was difficult online but I found everything except the body at my local hobby shop.
So now in order to preserve my body I have to invest in a different look for the trail because if I crack the only body I have I cannot replace it. I wish I would have purchased a spare when they were available.
I emailed HH on Oct 26th to ask if they would be making a run of bodies and the response I got was essentially no;
Dear HH Customer,
Thank you for contacting HH.
The Ascender VTR230041 has been discontinued for some time so as this time there wouldn't be any chance of these coming into stock. The only chance to get one would be on eBay.
We appreciate your time and business with us, have a great day!
Best Regards,
Matt.
I understand it is not the hobby's fault that I was busy and couldn't make time to stay informed while these things were unfolding within the industry, it just sucks to be a consumer who gets left out in the cold.
Both my brother in law and friend of mine who got into the hobby at the same time can no longer support the vehicles they purchased.
These types of things have a negative impact on the hobby as a whole.
People who are involved casually like myself or the people I mentioned are not impressed when they break their rig only to find out that they have to buy a whole new one instead of an A arm or what have you. I understand growth is necessary, but can we not strike a balance between supporting your current customer base and expanding the market as well?
Lot's of people have ragged on Traxxas for their business model over the years with dated platforms and weak plastics, which I cannot and will not dispute. But how is that any less of a business model than discontinuing product and forcing an evolution cycle for your consumers platforms/purchases?
I'll end my rant with this;
I'm getting old, and spending my hard earned money over and over and over on the same things is to getting old. Take it with a grain of salt
