New SSD SCX10 axle housings

I've been using my MIPs for a couple of years now with zero problems until I went to install these. Oh well, going to get a 2.0 but driver so I can install some scale hardware

So I've been eyeing the XR wide brass tubes. My question is, would it be possible to cut them down to accomplish the "narrow" xr10 mod? Seems straight forward enough since its just a tube with the wraith/xr10 chub end. Are some narrow ones in the pipeline?

Will there be narrow width/normal scx10 width versions also?

No as it would require you to cut the D60 plastic tubes.

You will have to get cutting.

Narrow ones are not in the pipeline as they would require the user to cut the tubes (accurately) and to be honest I'm not into products that require that.

The tubes have a very slight taper so I wouldn't advise cutting them down as they may not fit.

Hello guys.

I ordered two sets of SSD D60 axle housings and the complete set of SSD aluminum parts.
I completed the axles with the Axial HD bevel gear sets.
I love the axles and want to mount them in my SCX10 HorriBull.

The front axle is excellent at all and runs very smooth.

The rear axle has a problem - it runs absolutely harsh and uneven.
I checked the bevel gears = o.k.
I checked the seating of the bearings = o.k.
I switched the plastic bearing caps to the aluminum ones = o.k.

NOTHING HELPS - the rear axle runs absolutely harsh and loud - you can hear and feel every tooth.

Any ideas what the problem can be?

Is the inner bearing on the output shaft (diff pinion) seated all the way in? If not it might be pushing the gears together too tight. Can you pull on the shaft and move it in and out about 1mm? Or is it tight?

Yes the bearing is in place. I additionally pressed it in with a tool on the outer bearing ring.

That's what i checked first, because it is logical that the wrong seating of the bearing would cause such problem.
The pinion is pretty tight, i can move it only one to two tenth of a millimeter.

How tight is the pinion? the only other thing I've seen is a bent shaft chould cause issues. Have you tried putting the stock gears back in?

Finally after opening the housing for the fourth time and measuring all the parts i lost my patience and have chosen the "blacksmith method".
As you mentioned, the pinion is much to tight. I have now dremeled the backside of the pinion shaft where the inner bearing has axial contact with the shaft and now it works fine.
Smooth and quiet running, as the front axle.
May be the Axial HD pinion shaft was a little bit out of tolerance.

Thanks for your help.

SSD - when are you going to do more styles in the 2.2 steel wheels? Also... different front ring designs? How about an extra wide truss for XR width D60's that tie into the tube screws? Just ideas.

We are working on more wheels but no necessarily steel ones.

Is there a need for a Wide truss?

New Wide (XR) Titanium Steering link set has just been released today:

Titanium Steering Links for D60 Wide Axle

So now all pieces for D60 front and rear wide (XR) axles are available.

More for appearance, with the xr width axles having a skinny truss looks odd, but you could probably incorporate the brass tube screws into the truss for added strength over the width of the whole axle.
