New SSD SCX10 axle housings

Got my tubes and diff cover today... Tubes are very small. I knew they would be small but still surprised me. I think the aluminum diff cover weights more than the pair of tubes combined. Tubes are also not threaded. Would be nice if they were. Gonna install later today.

EDIT: Installed one and they are a snug fit and went in without issues even with the XR mod I did.

That's interesting and kind of disappointing. Are they even worth getting and tearing my whole front end apart to install? They did look pretty thin in the pics I saw and the fact that there's not enough wall thickness to even tap threads into confirms my suspicion. Fr8cture, now that you've held them and installed them can you tell us, was there room to make the tubes thicker and still be able to fit the axle shafts inside or are they as thick as they can be to still clear everything? I really am kinda bummed to hear this. I was really looking forward to the added weight and strength these were going to add but now just seems like a negligible modification.

They could maybe be very slightly thicker but not enough for it to be worth the change. I think the best option is from a guy that posted awhile back that drilled out the axle to fit standard beef tubes. I originally posted that I didn't like the optional diff cover but now that its painted red I like it. Gonna let it dry overnight then mount it up and post a pic. "thumbsup"

Cool, thanks for the info. You just saved me a couple bucks. Looks like I'll just be weighting the wheels an ounce or two. Did you post info anywhere of your XR mod? With that I could run RCBros awesome knuckle weight system.

Yeah in this thread. I just cut off the like ridges around the holes for the scx chubs off and clamped the vp wraith scale chubs on.

The tubes do weigh about the same as the aluminum diff cover.

We asked for the brass tubes and SSD answered. No threads but you could easily flip, drill, and tap them. I am the least bit concerned due to the housing thickness and material used. There is no way I would drill out these beefy housing's. Saying the new brass tubes are not worth while is nonsense. They do add even more rigidity to the housing and add weight in the right spot.
SSD........ I am asking for rear lockout's next please"thumbsup"

Just my opinion on them. I don't think the hole is small enough to thread either.

Correct you cant tap them as they are clearance holes for the screws to poke through.

Rear lockouts are in progress...

Awesome on the rear lockouts! I wasn't referring to the current through holes. As stated you could easily FLIP the tube with the through holes to the diff side and drill new hole then tap them. "thumbsup"

Is there planned to make axle weights for the pro knuckles?

I rather not having to much weight in my wheels, and since the brass tube is so light, it really dosen't add any weight to the axle...

Glad the fit is snug, the extra weight helps, you can't have everything.

The holes are not threaded as they dont need to be really...

X2, the tubes are about as thick as they can be, I'd rather have the beefy thick fiber reinforced axle housing and the thinner beef tubes that are not tapped. Tapping holes in thin metal is not any better and often less strong than good plastic. "thumbsup"

Here the rock shield diff cover painted up and mounted. Locked up rc tool needs to be sanded down to fit in there and it barley does.

I was hoping that the brass tubes would help avoid this. It was bad driving and a hard tumble though.. I think any plastic housing would have broken.. Off to order a replacement. I think I'm going to re drill the holes in the tubes so that they are not so close to the end of the tube..
