My Ecx Ruckus before and after (new vids)

hey folks

this is my first RC hobby grade truck, really nice truck for beginners some of you may know it some of you dont, so I will no get into details on it, I will just do a quick list of mods, some pics and some bashing videos for you to enjoy.

this is my truck outta da box

as you know there are not much aftermarket upgrades for this truck so, most of them are a mix and match from other brands, my truck currently have installed:

- 32p 56t spur from AE with AE slipper pads
- 32p 18t pinion from RRP
- traxxas HD drive shafts
- RPP HD steel tranny gears
- 3660 2700kv tacon motor
- 120a brushless hobby ESC
- 8-cell nimh 5000mah batt
- Ecx SCT torment front bumper

my first video with those upgrades

then installed:
- AE turnbuckles, ecx ball studs and RPP yellow rod ends
- RPP long motor size protector blue
- cheap chinese aluminium shocks

after this mods, I made this video to test them

==================================================================

at this time I was really happy with the performance of the cheap truck, 42mph are enough to have fun and not break a lo of parts in everyrun, so I will stay with that motor/esc combo for a while, but I feel it need a little change to be separated from all the rest of Ruckus out there, then I get a new shell and a driver.

and after some trimming and painting those parts soon became into this...

and now my Ruckus is a 1:5 ATV quad runner

and of course.. a small video to see my brand new quad shell running

I still need to make a longer video with more jumps and dunes on the new body.

stick a 3s lipo on that thing it'll really wake things up and you'll save some weight too. Otherwise good job man.

Yeah man, I have a Ruckus with a Mamba max pro and 3250 Black Magic 4pole on 3s and it f'en screams..Love the body. Gonna have to get me one for mine.

how's this truck for a 5 year old anyway? Good starter? Too fast to slow? Thinking of getting one for my son.

hmm I dont know why I didnt received these 3 post, sorry amigos and thanks for the comments.

Ped453, if by chance you still want the answer this truck stock is nice for a 5 yo, little bit on the fast side and kind of heavy but changing the pinion for a smaller one will reduce the speed and as always you can use a 6-cell nimh to make it more slower and safer for your kid.

well I have new video of my Ruckus, still with the ATV quad body and driver, this time testing some 3S LIFE 4500mah turnigy batts, I really like this video, has some "scale" off road action, some steep hills, and BIG air jumps!!

I hope you like it too

new vid of the Ruckus quad

ok amigos, this past weekend I did some hard testing on the new 1:8 shocks, there was kind of "durability test", somehow I felt the car more responsive and faster, it could've been the new shocks putting the rear wheels always on the ground so, more grab more speed, or it could've been the new ACE 80a ESC sending more current/power to the motor or a mixture of both things.
Checking my last 3 videos I think I gonna need a basher body and leave the ATV body and driver for jiggles and runs with no high jumps.

I'm pretty happy with my actual setup, car jumps nice, have really good speed on the flats, it also rollover a lot, crashed it against everything at high speeds, jumps and have a lot of bad landings and just continue..like the energizer rabbit.. it keeps going and going and going..
Im pretty sure that with a bigger motor on 3s lipo it will have broken parts on every run.

have fun

I looked at those ,your mods look good , how is it holding up? . are you breaking many parts?
Paint on the quad looks really good , nice job

thanks amigo.

this car as you can see in the last 2 vids is holding it just great, I havent broken anything yet since 1 year, I dont run the car every single week but every 2-3 weeks, also when I do I do jumps and almost always at WOT as you could saw.
if you care, this platform got basher approved by a knowing "RC website" cuz it holds the abuse really good in the MT or SCT form.

Looks like fun, and great place to bash...I need another fast RC again. 8)

back to the roots

ok, it was time to take some dust off the stock ruckus body and give it some good time...also tried new setup.

2.8 proline sand paddles on the back and some r35 ripsaws in front just because they're thin (true is Im short of mohawk tires in 2.8 size), anyway.. went to the desert and some good things happened..... as well as some bads too.

first the good ones.

some glam pics with the good old stock body

the obligatory jump..

fun, right??!!!

now the bad news..
the vlx driveshaft finally gave up..they couldnt handle the 9.9v and extra grip of the paddle tires, well they lasted aprox 15 packs on 3s life but were with the stock tires that dont have good grip on lose surface, these paddle tires just killed them in minutes..

IMG_20130525_213009_971s_zpsccb0bec1.jpg

good thing I have an extra set of vxl stampede driveshafts and went out to continue driving but they just lasted 2 minutes or less in the same place and they keep popping out, so...
no more paddle tires, no more 3s batts or find a better driveshafts but I dont feel like spend $35-$40-$50 dls more for MIPS, tekno or anything similar.. or finding some driveshafts cheap or just dont use paddle with 3s.

Im actually looking if by chance the 2.5 emaxx driveshafts fit into the ecx carrier and c-hubs.. but I dont know if they are much better than vxl slash driveshafts, equal or less strong..anyone have any info on this?

like I said, these paddle tires add too much traction and at the same time allow the truck to reach a really good speeds what resulted in two sets of traxxas vxl driveshafts broken, one at the middle of the video, put the next set and only lasted until the end of the video, actually only lasted like 4 minutes running, so after checking the finished video I think I am set on going after the MIPS C-CVD, this is pure fun, check it out on HD

by the way, this is the same desert where the Baja 1000 trucks actually runs!!
