Mini Super

I've been busy all weekend working on the deck, so not much progress.

After doing some thinking following my shake down run, I realized the rear axle didn't really need to be narrower than the front, since it steers.

So I adjusted it to match the front. Go as wide as you can for stability, I figure.

Also, the superclass section has been my main reading lately, trying to learn about this style of rig.

I just couldn't get past the fact that the rigs there look like "all tires", with a little bit of chassis hidden between.

I had a set of BC's that I got on a package deal that have been sitting around forever.

So I took a little time to narrow them and fit them on the rig.

Due to the rework I did on the front links earlier, there's no loss of steering with this much taller tire.

Now it's looking "Super", or at least in my opinion....lol

Dayum! That looks Super!

Tho, I can't believe you've been holding out on the BC's! ;)

How tall did they turn out? A touch over 5"?

Thanks Troy.

I'd say that's about right. Just a smidge over 5".

I didn't think they were going to fit after using my sportsman tires for mockup way back in the beginning.

Narrowed, and on narrow rims seems to make the difference.

They may not be the final version of shoes on this rig, I'm just using them for testing since I really don't have a knowledge base to pull from.

They may be too tall for the narrow track width, or to narrow themselves to prevent sidewall deflection when sidehilling or steering uphill.

Worth a try, though.

That looks sick Merc now you need bigger wheels and low pro tires

Thanks Chris.

I said that way back in the beginning before the class was even invented.

There was much discussion of limiting the rims, or tires, or both.

I think a 3.2 tire with low profile rubber would be the ultimate.

Less tire deflection, less weight, more room for weights way down low and at the corners, etc.

I'm still in the mode of trying to use what I have since it's all very experimental.

These were here, and found themselves under the knife, for better or worse.

I can't stop looking at these tires!

awesome shave job on the outer lugs! (In the back of my head) hoping you don't do, the every other row pin cut...

Do something fancy! ;)

3.2 wheels would look Sick, w/ those tires too.....

You've forgotten more about Boss Claws than I know.

If you've got a pattern that's "interesting", let me know.

I plan to run them as is, first.

You always say "change one thing at a time", so I'm just going to try them out and see if they're even viable.

Then I'll start getting creative. I've got a decent amount of time getting to this point with the set. No need to go overboard, just yet.

Obvious question would be your foam recommendation.

My guess would be narrow cut CI foams, soft front, med rear; but this is a whole different animal than I'm used to.

Lol... I do "like" my BC's...

I agree, one thing at a time..

It's amazing what cutting some pins out of them, will do for grip.
Just running your finger over them, as is, then cutting a row of pins and running your finger over them again.
You can instantly feel the difference in bite..
But you can get to that..

Foams.. Will change depending on the rigs rtr weight, if your leaving the sidewall's as is or shaving the rest, amount of use/break in, pin cut, and amount of wear.

I'll use 2 different foam setups per life of the front tires.
1x when new, then change them half way thru there life span.

The rears, they will stay the same, most of the times.

I have foams here that I'll never use, so many foams......
Some old school 5/5.25 closed cell, narrow, inners and outers to go with them.
They came narrow, so no need to cut. Maybe a trim on the width of the outers.

I stepped up to 5.5 CC inner and 5.25 outer(for when new). Same 5.25 inner diameter(between the ribs), but a touch wider and a little better sidewall support, for the full size BC's.

EDIT: Incase you wondered how I got so close on the tire size or selection of foams.. ;)

As always, RCBros shipped out my knuckle weights ridiculously fast. I think the shop is in the middle of a move right now, and they were still here in 4 days.

Very nice.

My usual practice is to tap them to 3mm upon arrival; but the tap just spun free in these weights.

I don't know if they've started going 3mm; but I'm pleasantly surprised.

The weights I used for the shakedown run were stolen off my sportsman rig.

It's time this rig had it's own weights.

I really have no idea where I'm at on weight, or bias.

I got a handful of goodies and just mocked them up for right now.

Got one extra half weight on here.

May be useful, maybe not.

Honestly, I'm waiting for the plastic gears to show.

They'll be in the rear, for sure. Maybe both cases.

Then I can really establish what this rig needs for knuckle weights.

Here's a pic of my 6ex battery compartment. Hope this helps. It approx. 1.5 in deep.

As far as I know, RCBros weights have always been tapped 3mm.
At least for as long as I've been buying them.

That's strange.

3mm wouldn't thread in the first couple sets I bought, 4-40 spun in smooth.

Just figured that's what they were.

It took 'some' effort to run the tap into those, these spun free on the tap.

Yeah its super easy. It handles 3s no problem too. Only bummer is if you leave the radio on. It pretty much drains one cell beyond recovery.
