Losi Baja Rey 1/10th 4WD RTR desert truck

I don’t see enough upgrades to buy it. I think they dropped the ball and could have done something really cool instead of update the body and open diff. I need to do an overhaul on mine and think I’ll just buy the bnd version for $350 and swap some parts.

If you already have a Baja Rey, why would you buy this? I would like the body, rear light, and maybe the wheels, but that's it. My Baja Rey is (finally) in a pretty good spot as far as setup goes (thanks for your help in the other thread, BTW), and I definitely wouldn't want an open rear diff.

On 4s.. Good luck.

I think it's worth a shot! Anyway, I'll be needing some new 4s packs for my crawler, so I might as well see what the Baja Rey does with 4s.

*edit* Though I did forget to mention that along with 4s will come a Mamba X and a 2400kV 1415 sensored motor...and likely gearing changes.

There are enough upgrades for the baja reys. SSD, Losi, Vanquish/ incision, amd others have came out with upgrades. The inly upgrades i havent seen is a body set, center trans housing, and upper and lower plates.

There's been an aluminum transmission housing available for a while now, I've seen it sold under the "VS racing" brand name, and now "Vitavon"... I believe they are one in the same:

The new Raptor body looks good, not necessarily better than the Proline Yeti Raptor body I currently have though (the molded pieces are cool, but nothing to get excited about on a car that gets crashed!) What is cool is that it should actually fit without a bunch of custom mounts, hopefully a clear body won't cost an arm and a leg like before ($90?) but it will likely be my next body.

Looks like a baja rey fully built could probably take 4s a few runs. I would still be leary about the gears though.

The same reason I had 2 udr’s and multiple crawlers and all the other stuff I don’t need. I like to have the latest better version and in this case it’s not enough for me to buy it. I need new front and rear axles and a cage and body and receiver so I’m going to buy the bnd version and swap the good stuff on mine over to the new one.

Loving the new Raptor body. Unfortunately, I already ordered a 1st gen Baja Rey body for my RPM scale tribute. Have not painted it yet though, so when it's available, I'll be pulling the trigger on this new Raptor body. I love the fact that you don't have to shorten the wheelbase. I originally bought a Proline Raptor body when I started this project. Put on Vanquish Yeti TT trailing arms and uppers, and just did not care for the look with the shortened wheelbase. I'll be curious to see how this truck handles with unlocked rear. Personally, I find this truck an absolute hoot to drive with the locked rear and steering with the throttle. Sure, the unlocked rear will probably make it a bit more manageable, but this rig is never going to be an IFS short course rig in the handling department, so why not let it be what it is!

I wish i just waited for the udr.. Ill be honest.

It was an awesome truck and typical cheap traxxas plastic. A plus is the replacement parts are really cheap. If you keep it scale driving you probably wouldn’t have a problem. Like anything else once you start bashing stuff starts breaking.

Good find on the trans case, I'll add it to the shopping list.

Losi's website shows a clear Raptor body set for $69.99, and still lists the other clear body set at $84.99. Raptor set isn't available, yet.

Included in the referenced "gearing changes" will be lower-ratio and stronger Rock Rey diff gears. Time, and power, will tell of course, and I think with the SSD front bulkhead, the Exotek cups, and the VP rear axle, the drivetrain should be pretty stout. "thumbsup"

Can't say I'm much of a Ford guy, but at least it's a different option and a licensed body. Hope they sell them in clear tho.
The rear diff gives people the option to tune it, or lock it. Options are a good thing.
They definitely could've done more (update shocks please!), but at least it's a refresh and sticking around.

I took advantage of the VP sale and have a currie axle on the way as well! "thumbsup"

Where are you seeing a clear Raptor body? I only see the 2 (likely pre-painted) options:

I confirmed with Losi during their Instagram Live session that the new Raptor body will be available in both the painted liveries, as well as clear.

I think if you can shove a 2000kv motor (1/8 scale) and run a 4-5000mah pack (4s) you might actually see a longer runtime versus the stock gearing and motor. maybe same wheelspeed or a little more than 3s.

im actually interested to see how this turns out. I had 2 1/10 Baja reys, and a sbr last year. ive raced my 1/10 Baja rey for 2-3 seasons indoor and outdoor. the other was a back up.

I had the chance to drive a udr once. it felt better on the track jump wise than my Baja rey. the udr was on 4s.

with an 8 scale system in it, I think you could actually keep it level in the air easier. the stock motor doesn't have much torque compared to a 1/8 unit.

I should have kept my Baja reys....

Look under "Optional Accessories" instead of "Parts Listing." No item number yet, but the entry is there.

I've got a "new to me" used Baja Rey in the mail. Already ordered a Savox SC-1258TG servo, Losi 25t horn, Glitch buster, SSD aluminum 3rd member for the rear axle, 30k diff oil for the center diff, and Fast Eddie bearing kit ordered as well. As soon as I have the lengths of the rear upper links, i'll make my own out of stainless.

I'm curious if the rear light bar will fit the rock rey. The cage already has holes back there and the way the roof is it looks like there should be a light bar there.

The "Ford Raptor Body Adapter Kit" looks like it includes the mount.

Successful tear down and refresh of bearings and diffs. Shock rebuild kit should arrive today. Runs smooth and put a few minutes of test driving in the grass of my yard. Gotta get it out on some sand and a higher rated C lipo (Helois Lipo ordered), but already can tell this is going to be a blast!
