I won it

You are all going to be pissed but, my sd card failed and you get no pics of the parts I got.. sorry but I got some other pics for you.

I got some of the eletronics together and came up with a mounting box for them. Hope you all like what I got going on if not please let me know what I should change.

thanks

sorry to hear your card craped out. looks like you have alot of room in the chassis, can you just balloon the electronics and velcro them next to the tranny.

I couldnt get my battery to fit so I broke down and made the move to lipo. I got 2 of the sky 3s 1300 25 and a thunder ac680 charger. Hope it works for me. What do you all think? I did this because I dont know what the hell to get and everyone has a different idea of what to get. This just seem to work with my budget.

Im still tryin to get the other pics, but no luck yet.

thanks

I just thought the box looked cleaner, I had planed on putin the box next to the tranny on the skid plate but I drilled the holes backwards from what I wanted to do, so it ended up in the middle instead of to the side. lol I got in a hurry because I was excited..

thanks

Looking good......"thumbsup"

If you haven't already set them up........
Make sure you unhook your steering links or servo horne
before turning on your rig to make sure that the servo's are in their zero position
otherwise you might burn them up before you get a chance to run it ;-)

Happened to me a long time ago

Parts on the way "thumbsup"

Regards Rick

I got the hot racing tranny and it has a aluminum spure, it seems to be not round or something is bent. the gears get really tight on one side while spinning. Are aluminum gears always loud when they turn? Im thinking about geting plastic. What should I run for gears? 87t spur and 20t pinion? Should I get a set so I can try different things? I found the problem when I tested the eletronics, Its not a runner yet. But Im getting closer.

thanks

This year I built 3 full metal jacket Axial transmissions.
The HR laydown I believe runs the same gears.
Anyways, I put 86T aluminum spur gears on all of mine and they were loud. Its natural because its metal on metal. Problem is that its very easy to strip a spur with aluminum and in the end you'll go plastic because they are cheaper, but hold up better.

My setups in my trucks are at 87T spur with a 14T pinion. If your concerned that you may destroy gears due to power, then replacing the aluminum internals with steel gears which HR also sells. I asked corey at Rpphobby to carry them.

The thing to remember in all drivetrains. There has to be a weak point that you can live with. If you bump up to a 32P gear system. And your drive shafts are Mi's and well secured. Chances are the weak point is in the axle gears, or the axle shafts, or the hex pins.

So for now, I would suggest a 35T motor with an 87T spur and 14T pinion. Space the gear mesh by folding a piece of standard paper in half, cut the piece of paper the width of your pinion, and insert between the opinion and spur assuring proper mesh and gap.

Allow this to be your failing point.

As far as the gears inside the case go. Aluminum isn't bad, you should be fine.

The thing I hate about the laydown case is that you have to mount your motor from inside the case which makes it difficult to manage.

Your doing well and everyone will have an opinion, just be smart and work with what's tried is true. Just because its cool, doesn't mean its best.

As your finding out, Crawlers are expensive. But, if you do it right the first time around. You'll spend less time fixing and buying parts, more time enjoying your new truck.

By the way. If its the stand up transmission for HR.
and its new. Chances ate the spur is not out of round.
just like beadlocks on a wheel. Tightening the screws and proper mesh in your motor plate is important to do right. You should have no binding.

But keep in mind that the motors hard spot where the magnet catches can also make things feel like its binding.

Hey, funny thing. I just got my tranny in and its the same one, brand new. I noticed the same thing. The spur gear also seems to be off center. on one half the gear mesh is definitely tighter. i have tons of 48p pinion gears, so i tihnk i might just grab a couple plastic spurs and try them out. they are cheaper, and probably much quieter.

is 17/87 to tall for a super?

Im going down to the lhs today and will be getting some gears to try. going to get a few pinions and a few spurs to try. Not sure what Im getting yet but I will let everyone know what I get to try.

thanks

I was looking today at parts and didnt buy anything. I am running 48p gears and started with 86t and 20t, will see where to go from there when its a runner. I tested the electronics and set esc up. I had to much play in the stearing so Im rethinking it, I put a little pieces of fuel line under the ball ends to keep it from twisting for now. I think I need some other ideas for it, please give me some ideas. My lipo's shipped today with the charger. Im excited to see if I have been missing anything. I also need to figure out how to do this whole lipo thing. Do you set them up a special way? What conectors should I use? Yet another question. I need to get the shocks tuned up abit. I wanted to see what weight oil to use in them that would be good for a rock racer/crawler. I want to slow the action of them down abit and see if I can use a softer spring. Last ?. Has anyone figured out a good way to control tork twist on something this big. I lied one more. What is a good way to add weight to the front without putting it on/in the wheels..

ok thats it

thanks

Buggynut. Please feel free to visit my website and read through the half a mile of electronics info. Trust me it will help you.
http://www.team3sixrc.com/electronics101.htm

as far as charging and such. Its pretty easy. can I ask what charger you ordered and what lipos you ordered. it will help me see if you need a special plug for the battery balancing tap and or if you need to purchase a balancer.

as far as adding weight. Im not sure if wheel weights will fit on those axles. maybe that is something v84x4 could maybe make for you. it would be a good option. But depending on where your weights are and how much should be in the rules for super's if you plan on competing one day. If not, I think the super guys could help more with that answer.

connectors i would use would be Deans or I really like the yellow plugs from hobby king lately. much easier to plug and charge.

hey man. lipos are actually pretty easy once you get over the initial learning curve.

charge with the balancer always connected and you will never have a problem. never run below the lipo cutoff if your ESC has the ability to do that, and you wont ahve a problem there either.

I got:
Quantity Item
2 Sky Lipo 1300mAh 11.1V 25C
1 AC 680 Professional Intelligent Dual Power Multifunction Digital Balance Charger 80 Watt 10A for NICD/Lithium/PB Batteries w/ AC Power Adapter

I hope I didnt buy crap...

I figure I needed to start some where and every one has a different opinion.

Yes I was going to ask him if he could make me some but I was also thinking I might want to make some of my own. I think I may give it a go, so I can say I made them ...lol

thanks all for the input
