I got the hot racing tranny and it has a aluminum spure, it seems to be not round or something is bent. the gears get really tight on one side while spinning. Are aluminum gears always loud when they turn? Im thinking about geting plastic. What should I run for gears? 87t spur and 20t pinion? Should I get a set so I can try different things? I found the problem when I tested the eletronics, Its not a runner yet.

But Im getting closer.
thanks
This year I built 3 full metal jacket Axial transmissions.
The HR laydown I believe runs the same gears.
Anyways, I put 86T aluminum spur gears on all of mine and they were loud. Its natural because its metal on metal. Problem is that its very easy to strip a spur with aluminum and in the end you'll go plastic because they are cheaper, but hold up better.
My setups in my trucks are at 87T spur with a 14T pinion. If your concerned that you may destroy gears due to power, then replacing the aluminum internals with steel gears which HR also sells. I asked corey at Rpphobby to carry them.
The thing to remember in all drivetrains. There has to be a weak point that you can live with. If you bump up to a 32P gear system. And your drive shafts are Mi's and well secured. Chances are the weak point is in the axle gears, or the axle shafts, or the hex pins.
So for now, I would suggest a 35T motor with an 87T spur and 14T pinion. Space the gear mesh by folding a piece of standard paper in half, cut the piece of paper the width of your pinion, and insert between the opinion and spur assuring proper mesh and gap.
Allow this to be your failing point.
As far as the gears inside the case go. Aluminum isn't bad, you should be fine.
The thing I hate about the laydown case is that you have to mount your motor from inside the case which makes it difficult to manage.
Your doing well and everyone will have an opinion, just be smart and work with what's tried is true. Just because its cool, doesn't mean its best.
As your finding out, Crawlers are expensive. But, if you do it right the first time around. You'll spend less time fixing and buying parts, more time enjoying your new truck.
By the way. If its the stand up transmission for HR.
and its new. Chances ate the spur is not out of round.
just like beadlocks on a wheel. Tightening the screws and proper mesh in your motor plate is important to do right. You should have no binding.
But keep in mind that the motors hard spot where the magnet catches can also make things feel like its binding.
