HPI converts a WK to a crawler

Just Hatched

Well Im completely new to the rc thing. Never even owned one at all. After seeing this thread here Iv decided that I will come here to play and purchase this truck to enjoy after conversion. Great thread, great site, will be here often to learn what I can.

whats the length?

I was looking at it cuz I'm building one but I got confused with the length of the arms, like the pic is to small for me to read and I can't figure ot the length of the all threads of the front and back, plus the Y- thing, (can't remember) really glad for the help."thumbsup"

Here you are
I am still waiting on stage 2 and 3

Build the shafts by cutting the aluminum tubing and allthread to the lengths shown in the photos.

Make two of these for the front

And two of these for the rear.

Next, we'll be lengthening the top link with another allthread/aluminum tube assembly. For this application, use the 4-40 allthread. Cut the front to 28mm and the rear to 37mm.

have fun I know I do

What is the length of the top links?
Or what is a good starting point?

Thanks

I found what I was looking for....

I took the center gears out(2 gears with a spring between them) and flipped them over. It does not slip anymore.

I took the spring out of mine and used a shock spacer that I sanded down to fill in the spot where the spring was.

transmission woes / stage 2

i wish someone would post a thread with pictures on it. seems liek a really important part of making a WK a comp. crawler. wheres stage 2? i know: they are waiting for HPI to come out with the new parts. ( motor esc all that jazz) they dont wanna tell us to go buy an integy =P"thumbsup"

As far as locking it, it's been said that if you lock it, you'll strip the 15t gear. Rc4wd is supposed to be working on new metal gears for it though. Go check out their vendor section for the "Alum WK/AX10 transmission case" thread and let them know you'd like to see metal gears & a locker for the tranny. I just did. The more of us that ask, the faster it'll happen.

didnt it mess the steering up?

i stretched mine out and had problems with the steering setup and you didnt even mention that whats the trick?

Your best bet is making/buying a servo mount that places it over the axle. It removes a lot of the slop in the steering.

The other option is buying some 4-40 all thread from a hardware store and cutting it to length.

Sorry to be so off topic hear, but does anyone know the name of the last song in the video. Thanks. By the way sweet video and nice of HPI to show all of us how it's done.

I wonder why they are taking so long to do the second phase? Dont they know this is life or death here, lol j/k. But really lets get r dun..

yea i saw that before i posted this but thought it had been posted already. I Think that its a great idea for hpi to do this. Not to many rtr crawlers! I was looking at this an since the chassis is flipped i was wondering were the servo was mounted...cant really see it in the pic
