If anyone has any questions please let me know. I tried to be clear about the build up so if you have a question send me a private message. I will be more than happy to help.

Nice!!!

hello All: thank you guys for the great write up got my wheely king and having fun building it this is my first crawler project and really think that it is a very nice approach to for newbs like myself again thanks and cant wait for the future stages 2,3 etc......."thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup"

I just went and got a WK while I was home on leave for my mid tour from South Korea. This was to replace the 2 Nylint 1/6 scale crawlers my son and I had, since he blew up both of them finaly after a year or so. I must say thank you for a nice write up on a low dollar conversion. I only had a couple of inputs.
1) The driveline parts 82008 and 82009. The instructions say nothing about getting these parts to fit other than cutting the length shorter.
I ended up taking a dremel to them just to get them to fit for the moment so we could play. I will swap out the yokes with the stock ones when I get back home at christmas
2) The 3mm steering rod was no where close to being long enough to work. I ended up finding a piece of 3mm all thread and making my own.

Thank you!

yes we fixed the drive line pict. and instuction. the steering rod we forgot to put that in I will get that up asap thanks for letting me know.

I just finished "phase 1+" on my new WK. AWESOME! I ended up ditching the steering linkage and went for an axle mount for the servo and made a battery tray for the front end to replace where the servo used to be. Much nicer. Even with 3 wheel drive (broken front axle) it still out climbed my stock WK! New axles coming soon, can't wait to see how it REALLY performs.

I had to cut the all-thread for the links 4mm shorter than the instructions said. I guess my rods ends were shorter than the ones HPI used...

can't wait to see what phase 2 will bring.
Cheers!

No big deal, but the hpiracing conversion page says the parts should cost about $65.20. When I add up the list, using the specified quantities, I get $85.69. It cost me about $130 for the parts, including shipping from multiple sources. In any case, I think the $65.20 is a little optimistic.

EXCELLENT Article. Just EXCELLENT. I built up the stage one kit just as the page suggests and was very happy with the results. My only problem is I couldn't stop. I've gone on to flip the chassis and mount the servo on the axle.

I'm also waiting for stage II.

i notice the 20 min of run times, would the gearing for powere give more power?

i really like this right up. this is proabably going to be my crawler.

I was in the process of my WK stage one build and ran into a problem. My LHS can't get the DS's anymore(E-Savage). So, now I've gots to figure out something else. Any suggestions? Chris

Great article, I have bulit my WK but still need to do a few things that are in Phase I.

Do we have a date on Phase II. It would be good to see what I could do all at once.

"thumbsup" "thumbsup" this is great to see hpi supporting our part of this hobby like this.
shows you guys are doing your homework, keep it up.
i saw some people questioning the motor and gearing choice we have a local here running pretty much the same set up with gearing and stock motor speed control. (he even had the stock tires for a little while) he had no problems from it at all. he has upgraded it now but it got him out there..
