Holmes' Wraith

Mr. Holmes came to visit C.I. last week for a few days. He left two of his rigs, this wraith and his yeti, here at CI for them to be shipped back to him. As a fellow vendor, I know how busy life can be. It's difficult to juggle a business, family, friends, and a hobby that became your business. So often our own projects sit or never get completed.

John and I trade a lot of product with one another. I'm always building something new that needs motors, esc's or servos and John is a tire and wheel hoarder (how lucky am I, LOL). I'm taking advantage of the opportunity to upgrade John's wraith before I mail it back.

Starting with:
Ottsix U4's in Silver compound
Double Deuce 5.5" Comp Cut Inners / Medium Outers
CI 6 Bolt 1.50" Wide Wheels

Next, some CI Delrin Wraith Links:

More to come...

And to brag on another venders work... BC Paints does some amazing quality paint and design work. The custom hand painted wraith side panels and hood are amazing:

My wife got involved (MadebyL24) and created a custom wraith top for the Holmes Hobbies Wraith. She does amazing work. She's got skillz :-D

Whoa!! Getting the royal treatment!! I didn't expect to have an upgraded rig returned to me! By the time I get it back I'll have some VP axles and 4ws to add in too :D

The royal treatment for a royal family in RC rock crawling. Thank you for your visit and all you do for our hobby.

That top is sweet! I feel a need for one rising...

Let me know... You do some amazing work yourself and I need some of your parts. :-)

Sometimes it's just the simple things that need replacing to make a crawler durable. Such as changing out the stock course thread hardware for stainless 3mm:

I'm shocked this rig has broken the trans or drive shafts. I'll be upgrading it with some new parts:

John was testing this wraith during his visit with a new esc design and sensored outrunner. The wraith had Stock Gearing 80S/20P. 3S Lipo 2200 mah. If I had not driven it myself, I would have never believed it was possible. It had super smooth start up, would rock crawl, and would rock race! Amazing! Once he gets it perfected and in production, ain't nothing gonna stop The Holmes Hobbies Outrunner revolution!

CI is ready to release it's next batch of 5mm outputs for the Axial transmission. The design has been tweaked once again and this time they are coated. The wraith only uses a long front and I'm installing one in the Holmes Wraith.

Of course the idler and output gear must be upgraded as well:

Robinson Gears:
The wraith steel output gear from Robinson has one side of the gear machined smaller for the wraith rear output; FYI.

The stock gears and transmission had little to no lube in it. If you're buying a RTR, take it a part.

Fitted with Traxxas Maxx Shafts; Mr Holmes will have plenty of gearing options now:

Props to Jeremy H for the simple tool recommendation for quickly and easily cutting Maxx shafts:

It's gonna be like a new rig when I get it! Thanks for giving it a once over, I put a lot more driving time in it than upgrading. I've been waiting for stock parts to break before I replace them, but surprisingly little has given out other than the threaded holes for the knuckle mounts getting tired. The plastic frame attests for how I drive it, the amount of abrasion on the top where the fastback starts is quite noticeable in your pics! I'm sure it helps that I run plastic wheels without weights. So the wraith lower tranny gear does have a funky ID on the rear side, huh?

Ny plan is to add the VP axles with underdrive gears, 4ws, hook up the headlights, and a rear sway bar when it gets back. I've gotten used to driving it without the sway bar, but it's almost as much rock racer as the Yeti with that 2700kv outrunner so it can't hurt to try. Probably my favorite rig to play with right now, but I typically grab a 1.9 rig for more challenge.

W/T/F all glued up & ready to go:

Axial R35 2.2 Falkens
Deuces Wild 2.2 Standard Foams
1.50" width 6 Bolt wheels

When are these gonna be available? Will these work with the ax10 trans housing?

His outputs are designed for the ax10 tranny, the spur side was installed on my wraith since its the same fit. I assume you will see them for sale in a few days, he must have plenty to be installing it in my truck :p

I was gonna get around to shaving the leftovers of the rear cab, I swear

Have any paddles tires there Eddie? Might be snowing here soon.

cool. I'm changing my wraith transmission to ax10. He makes an extended output for the other side right?
