Holmes' Wraith

Yay! You got your Wraith too! Mine wasn't bound out of the box either. I threw my DX3E at it and it works like a charm. Let me know how that 11t works out...I might change my mind on the 16t order I placed ;)

VP stuff is beautiful. I will work on installing my stuff tomorrow. Saving up for links, diff covers and lockouts.

Send am email if you do want to change. The 16t would be great for 4s use IMO.

The stock ESC and motor work excellent on 3s. Just don't expect the stock motor to last more than 5-8 packs before the magic smoke lets out.

As far as the reverse rotation motor... I took Brads advise and flipped the ring gears. Now I run normal rotation motors, although I have the brushless setup in mine now(13.5) and it's perfect for me.

Good tips there. I figured the stock ESC would thermal pretty easily on 3s without a gearing change.

Flipping the ring is cheating!

Wait, so in forward the ESC should light up green?

Oh noes...

Yep, that is standard for pretty much all ESCs that use green and red status leds.

Subscribed! Let us see the magic behind the reputation! Videos are key...I know you said you don't have a fancy camera...we don't need it. We just want to see the motor, battery, and esc specs perform various speed tests. We all know Harley's can get from the 7 eleven to the walmart in one pull of the trigger! My guess is that we all want to see super slow speed control on the rocks and a little giddiup (ala Kramer) on the hillclimbs. 2s, 3s, whatever. for those of us waiting on the forum heavyweights to do the initial testing, it will save us time and money to emulate what you have run on your builds. Can't wait to see where this thread goes, as well as the products you're producing for the the others."thumbsup"

Thanks for the support! I'll pull out my phone cam if I need to. I do know a local that has a nice camera though, so maybe I can hit him up for some good film.

John, try the R35 compound Ripsaws before anything else. I've been running the R35 compound for a few months and they are hands down the best scaler tire I've seen. Unbelievable wet rock traction and they sling mud pretty well too:twisted:

I'll give those a lookie see. I think the Ripsaws look awesome! Whoever designed them really did a good job, he should be designing for all the tire companies. ;-)

Man I want to be able to make my own motors! Unfair! I'll be watching this thread closely as my cousin is getting a wraith soon and will need some help with it for sure ;)

Those tiny 1.9 tires don't help in the speed department.

I have 160lbs of wire coming my way for lots of winding possibilities. Just for you :) That puts my stock of wire close to 250lbs now, sheesh that's a lot of copper!

Yeah, that's why I need to get that thing sold so I can get a Wraith, 2.2's is were it at now! Rodney passed me on course 2 with his Wraith like I was standing still, and I was flat out.

I'm anxious to see what esc/motor combo you run and what input you have on them. This will be a big deciding factor on what I put in mine lol. I have fried three motors in my wraith so far(all extras and/or free) but can't afford another complete set up currently. Subscribed.

I built up an extra 11t double CrawlMaster that should be a really stinking fast motor for the rig, especially on 3s. I know the 13t CrawlMaster is a good match for 3s, so why not push the line a bit and see just how hot this rig will run. 11t on 3s, 13t on 3s, 16t on 4s...

I wish I'd known that you could/would go lower...I just got a 13t in the other day and on 2s I find it slow with 17t pinion although I am comparing it to my sons' VXL bl trucks  Maybe I just need to play with the gearing and go buy a 3s.

5t? I'll trade you for my 5 minutes of run time 13t "thumbsup"

Talked to axial about the radio issue I am having, and it doesn't appear to be common. They said I could send it in for free fixing or replacing. I do bet I am doing something wrong and it is just user error, but I will send it in and get a second opinion on the matter. Always good to get a second set of eyes on it.

I hired a buddy to come film some action this weekend, so we will get plenty of comparison vids of different motors on different voltages.

Sweet! Looking forward to the vids. If you need a spare radio/receiver, let me know. I'm not using mine right now.

I have a 4pk that is doing duty right now, thanks for the offer though. I'm eyeing the 4pl so I can have easy rear steer adjustment. Just what I need, another radio!

JRH, I'm running a 14t puller with mmp on 6s. LOVE IT. By far smoothest and most torque I've ever had in a crawler. :)

..where are the videos using different HH motors and on different voltages?..

Well, life sidetracked my whole online media plans. We have a new worker starting in two weeks that owns a few quad copters and has his own part time photo/video company. So while we may not do the speed test vids, there will certainly be lots of tech and product showcases starting soon.

Funny to look back three years and see what was considered fast! While 13t and 11t Crawlmasters are no slouch, they don't hold a candle to the raw speed and torque of roc412s and revolvers.

Ran the wraith at crawlapalooza last weekend and really had a blast! Thanks to crawler innovations for the six bolt rims, foams, and bfg tires. They really hook in everything from rock to wet soil. We put a few more hours of hard test time on a prototype 2900kv Revolver SX ten pole motor and left extremely pleased with the performance. Even with stock 20/80 gearing the startup is butter smooth, torque is nuts like any outrunner, and wheelspeed is of course a little over the top running 3s on stock gears.

Just did the after event check and ran hot laps through grass and small rock to wring it out. Constant stop and go, not being gentle on the rig at all. After 20 minutes the motor was 90f on a 65f day and we had pulled 1300mah from the pack. Can't complain about that!

Love that outrunner whine. "thumbsup"

When are these going to be available? I just gutted the electronics out of my mini-Wraith for another build...
