Hobby got out of hand quickly - SCX24

All the lights look awesome. I am planning to add more lights also, not sure I want to try modifying the original light bar though. The course looks really good."thumbsup"

I got a roof rack with lights for the Jeep...

Looking awesome. I am working on getting some scale accessories to go with the rack - I am having some things printed. Jerry cans and such.
I also designed an adapter to fit the Orlandoo light bar I have for the chevy to the chevy's roll bar in the location of its stock light bar. I'll show pictures as soon as they come in.
Thinking very seriously about getting a 3D printer. I have been a mechanical design professional for over a decade, most of which was spent designing polymer parts, so it would be a really good extension to this hobby since I already have the 3D CAD skills...

Initially I got a light bar that had the right width and is actually a lot brighter and more sturdy, but it was a little too big for my liking. Not entirely out of place, but not what I was going for either. Luckily I still have my 10th scale buggy, so I went ahead and put lights on that as well:

I had previously restored the buggy to a stock configuration, with a fixed rear differential 'cause the diff was molten around the diff balls :ror: so as far as 10th scale buggies go it's really not particularly fast... but I have come to appreciate the stock speed a lot more since I've been driving the SCX24's.

Wow I haven't been on here in a while but that is a fantastic end result and you are falling deeper into the money pit "thumbsup"

Love to see what you have done so far. I love that the scale of the environment drops down, which allows you to do more with these little ones. I come from a background of 1:1 crawlers and as fun as those are, carnage and breaks cost a whole lot more to fix, and you can’t just use them everywhere. These 1/24th rigs you can find lines everywhere you go!

Nice work on the lighting and indoor course build!!

Update time... A lot has happened since I last posted.

I upgraded the stock servos to some generic micro servos - not the Emax (yet) and I can't be bothered to look up brand and type, but they fit and any servo that is not the stock servo, is an upgrade over the stock servo.

Also the stock shocks appeared to be failing somehow so I got some metal shocks - nothing spectacular, just something that was rapidly available from amazon.

But what's really awesome is some further scale details. I found a guy who prints accessories for a reasonable price and bought some stuff from him. I also designed a holder for the Orlandoo light bar that would fit the Chevy's roll bar.

The accessories I got were rock sliders, some spare gas cans, two shovels, sand plates for the jeep and an axe to go in the pick-up. I also mounted some wheels of my Carisma on the roof rack of the jeep as well as in the pick-up's bed. I really like the looks of the crawlers with these items:

I set the orlandoo light bas'step down converter to 2,75V (it's rated for 3V) and still get an absolute tonne of light:

Been a while since I last posted. I'm less active with the SCX24's, but I do still care for them and drive them occasionally.

A few recent upgrades are 66T 050 motors and some additional scale features, but nothing really major.

I gave a length of rope to the Chevy:

So it's now carrying rope, an axe, a shovel and gas tanks. I'm wondering if it's next accessory should be an alibi...

I gave the jeep a 'tent' on the roof (a.k.a. a piece of cloth rolled up) to give it a bit of an overland adventure vibe:

And I made a video of just that 8) Hope you enjoy.

My kid and I went playing in a sandbox today... Pretty challenging to find traction with stock tires, but easy does it.

Also, a while back we went exploring through the woods.

We're bringing both SCX24's with us when we're going camping this summer. Looking forward to exploring new places with my kid and these toys :)
Also, I designed and ordered some new accessories: a new roof rack for the jeep that fits a sturdier light bar, and a toolbox. I am going to revamp the accessories for both models. Stay tuned for photos 8)

I decided to re-do some of the accessories on both models. I drew up a design for a roof rack that fits the Jeep using the same interface as the roof rack I had, but designed around a lightbar that I had lying around (the lightbar that was installed on the jeep got damaged), and also providing some mounting points to hold the sand plates and the 'tent' that I had.

Additionally I modeled a vintage-looking toolbox, as an extra accessory.

I had those printed, along with another bumper and a spare tyre holder for the Jeep.

For the chevy I also added a toolbox, and cut the spare tyre in half to save some space. I painted the wheels for both of them for some extra bling.

The Chevy:

The Jeep:

Both of 'em:

And showing off the looks and brightness of the Jeep at night:

I really enjoyed reading this story of adventure and upgrades. Lot more fun than Facebook posts with out context.

How is the indoor course today? Not used?
Been collecting building materials , not begun the build, just mocs. Now summer in ahead..
Save for winter.

You seem to run mostly stock. I like that, upgraded my Deadbol to fast to much.

Might restart with a C10.

Best regards

This is a good thread! What I have in the garage now: furitek cayman and just bought the hiroyama. Scx24 I used before with micro komodo, then I bought the fcx24. It was ok, but then I used the axles from it and put those under the scx24. I used stock links, but it also needed the injora 4-link uppers for the c10.

Other links are really twisted, and also had to modify the fcx24 axles to fit with the scx24 baseplate. But it works.

Thinking of 4ws my scx24 next winter. This hobby really got out of hand, but that is a only good thing!

Fcx24 portals on scx24? I have not gone to brushless. Injora red motor and a german ESC. Works great. https://www.modellbau-regler.de/shop/product_info.php?products_id=161

Hi, that’s a good esc an very light too! Those 050 motors are good. I had a dynamite 050 also. I first bought the tegu and even the stock motor was sweet with that on the scx24. Surprise surprise, the stock motor died after a while. Then the micro komodo came out and it is lightweight and small too. Now it’s brushless always, can’t go back anymore. The fcx24 was good, but after putting on injoras outer portal covers, 24(?) gram each, one really could tell the motor had more weight to carry… (det var p.g.a. detta som jag fixade blandningen av fcx och scx. Fcxen kändes trög efter extra vikten).

Hälsningar till Sverige!

The indoor course is no longer there... it was terribly in the way (we don't have a particularly large house) so we've gotten rid of it. Waste of all the work, but building it was way more fun than driving the same lines over and over ;-)

I do still have a lot of stock parts, but by now I have aluminium high-clearance links and aluminium steering links installed on both of them, and 66T motors for longevity (the stock motors die easily).

I brought them to work recently and am getting a lot of attention from colleagues when driving them around the office... :lmao:

Edit:
Here's some pictures from the past year or so.
