I ordered a few light bars from AliExpress as I want to add light bars to both crawlers. But since they'll take some time to arrive I figured I'd try to convert the C-10's stock light bar into something functional. I still had LED's and some black plastic LED mounts.
So I took off the stock light bar and began to drill the appropriate holes.
And it immediately went to sh*t - that plastic is really soft so almost impossible to properly clamp down and get a centered hole:
But, after the first hole went off I was committed so I decided to just see it through - eventually I'd get rid of the stock light bar anyway.
So trimming off some excess plastic and inserting the LED's and their holders made it look a little bit better. I was consistent in the LED lead orientation so I managed to use all black shrink sleeve to try and camouflage the leads:
And after soldering it looked something like this - all cross-eyed :lmao:
But yeah, again - I was past the point of no return and we're in a lockdown, so what else do I have to do at night...
So I routed the wires through the body and also installed a manual switch:
And after soldering in the correct resistor and the BEC connector of an old servo I don't use anymore, it was time for a test. Luckily you don't really notice how awful the lights are positioned once they're on:
And it really gives off a LOT of light:
So. Not entirely happy with how it went, but still I think it turned out quite functional - if not the prettiest.
With the switch I can choose to have only the regular lights, or the full blast. Should be a lot of fun to drive in the dark this way 8) My kid's gonna love it when he sees it tomorrow!
