HobbiCo / Great Planes / Tower Hobbies

Here’s an example, the last ae vehicle I purchased had weird star shaped axle nuts instead of a regular 12mm hex and odd diameter and length axle pins... why?
I’m tired of defending a statement of why I don’t buy from 2 companies.. is there that many losi and ae corporate owners here, or just people with nothing better to do than twist up a general statement to instigate and perpetuate an argument that is completely off topic..?

When you come out bashing any brands, especially ones as great as Associated and Losi, you are going to get pushback.

Yes have to agree there was def a spot of bad judgement BUT you'll be happy to know they all now use a standard 12mm hex.

Sadly the wheels from the gold chassis RC10 still wont work though ..... but then again design changes and innovations can be a bitch sometimes. :lmao:

Roll with it ...... we're all here just having fun "thumbsup"

Stevem50, the problem I think most people have with your statements is that they are outdated and don't apply anymore, and haven't for more than a few years now.

When you come out bashing any brands, especially ones as great as Associated and Losi, you are going to get pushback.

^^^ what he said. just watch what happens with Jato when I post up about how slashes and Rustlers are the biggest piece of crap cars made, and they're outdated, boring and a ripoff since they're the same vehicles that came out 20 years ago and everyone that knows anything about this hobby would have to be an idiot to buy one :lmao:

As far as Hobbico goes, I do wonder what will happen with a lot of the older brands like O.S. and Duratrax. My big hope is that some smaller companies will take them over instead of hobbico shutting them down during bankruptcy. I'd love to see many of those divisions continue.

Best sales? FCC is bankrupt, has been for over a year. They approached GM last year to buy them and GM told them to go pound sand. The Jeep line is the only one showing any profit and that's from Wrangler sales. The latest gossip is that Hyundai and the Chinese company that owns the Hummer brand name are looking at FCC.

To be accurate, the Hummer brand was never purchased by anyone. GM ultimately just dismantled the brand name.

"Hummer was a brand of trucks and SUVs, first marketed in 1992 when AM General began selling a civilian version of the M998 Humvee.[1] In 1998, General Motors (GM) purchased the brand name from AM General and marketed three vehicles: the original Hummer H1, based on the military Humvee, as well as the new H2 and H3 models that were based on smaller, civilian-market GM platforms.
By 2008, Hummer's viability in the economic downturn was being questioned, and it was placed under review by GM management. Rather than being transferred to the Motors Liquidation Company as part of the GM bankruptcy in 2009, the brand was retained by GM, in order to investigate its sale.
In 2009, a Chinese manufacturer, Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company, announced that it would acquire Hummer, pending government approvals, but later withdrew its bid.[2] On February 24, 2010, Reuters reported that the Chinese ministry of commerce had prevented the deal,[3] although a ministry spokesperson denied rejecting the application, which had been stalled for eight months.[4] At the end of February, General Motors announced it would begin dismantling the Hummer brand.[5]
Although the automaker announced two days later that it had been approached with new offers,[6] by April 2010, any sale became unlikely, as inventory was depleted and Hummer dealerships began shutting down.[7] After filling a rental-car fleet order, the last Hummer H3 rolled off the line at Shreveport on May 24, 2010.[8]

How's that for off topic! ;-)

(such as Castle, Axial, RC4WD... ;-):shock:)

Jato, sonetimes you slay me... "thumbsup"

Every company that has been around for a while in RC has made some missteps... but many of those selfsame manufacturers have contributed a great deal to where the hobby is today.

So, yeah - heated discussions do occur!

Oh I get push back! :lmao:

Notice that I only critique products I have experience with and when a company rights their wrong I admit. I push the Castle X series of ESCs quite often.

That sounds like they're reason for scrapping Saab instead of selling it to Penske. Apparently they couldnt make the deal because GM said it ment getting rid of too many 'trade secrets' .......

I guess loosing money, building shitty cars and ruining existing companies is a trade secret to GM. Sounds like Horizon may have gotten ahold of that play book.

Just remember that GM has more shitty cars at the top of the JD Power reliability reports than anybody else. :D

https://youtu.be/9-M5xg2Uyxw

And of course there is J.D. Power & Associates, who reportedly charge hundreds of thousands of dollars to car makers just for access to their survey results and then charge another big-time fee for the right to mention their awards in ads. Additionally, they provide a separate, equally pricey service where they help car companies make improvements that should result in higher ratings.

Some biggie at J.D. Power stands by the company’s assertion that the survey and consulting sides of the business are separate entities.

“Core to our success is that our clients believe that the research is entirely independent,” he said. “If they felt that you could buy a better score, then the score would become worthless.”

;-)

Not that it matters, but I'm seeing plenty of ads on IG from Horizon now about having Tamiya kits available. My guess is we won't see them back at Tower again.

I've been seeing those ads for a while, but I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or a result of the HobbiCo issues.

I hope Tower gets Tamiya kits back. That was always the cheapest place to buy them.

That guy is hilarious. GM rocks though. Everybody knows that.

Fixed it. :ror:

Better to ride a rock than push a Ford:flipoff:

I've been getting a bunch of ads from both in my email, and see both a bunch of IG too.
