Dont think they would, never been a company that buys anyone. If Losi gos into scalers then yeah maybe but AE is a race company.

Horizon owns Losi......Vaterra most would call a scaler:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Been that long since I had one.. a tc4 was the last new associated I had. How long ago was that..? And they both still have weird wheel offsets on the sct’s. Slash was the first sct, and the most common, why be different just to be different?!? So that I need multiple sets of the same wheels and tires if I want to race with my kids?

You can't compare a shitbox Slash to an AE any thing, one is a cheap junker for kids, the other is an out and out racer, the same as Serpent, Kyosho and the like.

They all have different wheel offsets and what not depending on how they want to go about it:ror:

Was just using an example of why I think they aren’t more mainstream..

Because you need a brain to operate them with any longevity.

Traxxas does an excellent job of appealing to the hamfisted and punishing basher crowd, while AE and Losi focuses on the more skilled racer crowd.

And traxxas sells 10 or more to their one.. I’m not saying that it’s better or worse, just a better seller, and if you want to appeal to their current clientele then you become more similar to what that customer is accustomed to, not more different.

AE and Losi could make more resilient rigs, but that's not their game. They do what they do on purpose.

Plus, as we've seen, Traxxas doesn't like people encroaching on their patents and designs.

Either way it’s beyond my paygrade.

In my past when We raced and I cared about sct’s, I know I made the conscious decision to buy a slower traxxas slash 4x4 on purpose and knew I had to throw a bunch of money at it from jump to be competitive (new chassis, diffs, etc) just because my son was racing slash spec and it was just easier being able to share parts, bodies, and get all the parts from one shop. I’d say there’s more dads like me than pure focused racers who will buy on vehicle spec alone. I know this because I could look around the pits and see for myself every weekend..
That’s the basis for my opinion

I’ve got nothing against them or the people who run them, but proprietary shit ain’t for me..

There are very few places that run a slash class. They haven't been run for years. the places that run SCT's are pretty much dominated by Tekno, Losi and AE. SC8's have consistently been winning at a couple of our local tracks.

sure, there are a lot of people who still bash with slashes, but neither Losi or AE are going to compete with Traxxas' marketing, and they'd be fools to try. Just like Traxxas doesn't try to get into racing again because they have targeted bashing. Your argument that racing companies who chase championships should adapt to the standards of a company that chases beginners who don't race doesn't really make sense. They'd be alienating their target group, and lose out by competing with a company many times their size.

That’s an interesting interpretation.. but not what I said. I originally said they aren’t more mainstream due to proprietary designs, then I said they make major design changes and said I won’t spend with them anymore due to these design changes never being compatible with previous design and it turns into planned obsolescence, then I offered an example as to how I and many like me base our decisions.

As far as slash spec class.. 5 years ago when we were racing them, EVERY track had a slash class, and the 2 we have local both still do..

This has derailed

Racing was never guaranteed to be cheap, and by it's nature the technology has to evolve to gain an advantage. That goes for any sport that is focused on mechanical things.

Our local spec race series also had a lot of Slashes, and they did well, even though there were other brands mixed into the class.

Welp, that attempt at thread realignment failed LOL. I tried.

True but there is a level of brand separation with all of them. TLR, Losi and Vaterra all attract different crowds.

Vaterra is your Horizon version of HPI with drift cars and scalers - TLR is your high end Race vehicles and Losi is your RTR for monster size and those wanting a step above a Traxxas.

They may be all the same but there is still a difference. Worse thing would be if they did to TLR/Losi what they did with Armma/Durango.

AE ..... The racing world knows all those RTR and mini versions are just Thunder Tiger making some extra money. Maybe Thunder Tiger could have an interest in Axial if it came to it but I dont think we'd see it as Associated buying Axial is how I should have put it.

I think that elitist attitude is quite douchey. They are all toys. A Slash isn't just for kids. I love mine. And let's not forget the thousands of adults that raced them a few years back when the Slash came out and it reinvigorated racing and this hobby in general and spawned an entirely new class on its own.

This doesn't make any sense. How is AE\Losi anymore proprietary then Traxxas? They all use standard hardware sizes.

Or are you referring to the fact that Traxxas still uses 20 year old designs?

Here’s an example, the last ae vehicle I purchased had weird star shaped axle nuts instead of a regular 12mm hex and odd diameter and length axle pins... why?
I’m tired of defending a statement of why I don’t buy from 2 companies.. is there that many losi and ae corporate owners here, or just people with nothing better to do than twist up a general statement to instigate and perpetuate an argument that is completely off topic..?
