hillbilly's LOW RANGE inspired cab swapped bronco

BIG UPDATE!

I might be wrong but this could be the first forward mounted motor in a barrage platform!

First I flipped the front scx10 shock hoops to sit on the outside of the chassis.


Now my R2 trans will fit between the hoops.


This is probably the main reason it has taken so long to get here. CUTTING THE CHASSIS. The trans is 70 mm wide. So is the inside of the chassis but it being a C- channel chassis some parts need to be removed. No turning back now.




I had to test fit a couple times to make sure I didn't cut to much away. Right now its has one bolt on each side the also mounts the back side of the shock hoops. I still need to drill one more hole of each side.

Stopped by a local hardware supplier to get some 2.5 mm mounting hardware for my t-case. Got them for free. SCORE! Dude said they were samples and been sitting for years.

I need longer hardware with the new skid and the hardware that came with the t-case wasn't made for my custom application.
 
Well first off stupid of me not to double check. The holes in the t-case are not 2.5 mm, they are 3 mm I could have mounted it long ago.

I got it mounted and input shaft flipped to overdrive the front. Trimmed down the front drive shaft to fit and mounted. The rear was drop in. I'm still using barrage drive shafts since they are 5 mm outputs like standard 1/10 scale.

Also after installing the trans I had little up travel out of the 90mm shocks. So I swapped out the 80 mm in the rear for the 90mm and put in the 100 mm shocks I had. Flexs much better still going to get some mini t front springs.

I'm taking a break at the moment to clean up the house some. My duty for the day so I could stay home and not go out with the family. I got a couple pics of the t-case, drive shafts and one side of shock swap. Ill post later and should have more done after duties.
 
Like I mentioned earlier I swapped shocks around. The 80 mm rc4wd shocks were just to stiff and short even with my lift kit. It flexs much better now.





My driveshfts I made up of the stock barrage ones. I tried making a shaft for the trans to t-case but no luck with what I have for parts going have to measure and we if I can find something. Also the overdrive is nice even with the underdrive. I get 3 turns of the front tire just before 2 of the back.

 
Been researching mounting solutions. I think a simple plate and Velcro for the front. And sides I've been looking at boat sides which would help mounting.

Yeah, been toying with the idea of a cms. Really don't have the clearance for an axle mounted servo. I think I'm going to pick up a habo dc-1 chassis side panhard mount they are dirt cheap and believe they will fit the chassis.

I really havnt seen any axle side panhard mounts for the Everest axles so will have to come up with something. I've seen one Everest axle build that had 3 link and panhard. So will have to find it again.

Also glad to see the release of the ampro interior. Kinda $$$ might have to get a dash and build the rest lol.

£4.99 is pretty cheap, especially if you live in the UK; I wonder how much it would cost to ship to the states. I couldn't find the part on US eBay but it might be on UK eBay.
 
For axle side panhard, look at CODYBOYs rent to own ascender.
Looks like if you take a front steering knuckle and shave it down so just the steering bracket is left, the knuckle should slide over the axle tube then just drill and tap it for hardware to secure it.

Might be tricky on the losi copy axles the barrage has. I will take a look at mine later but obviously the real trick is figuring out what knuckles.

Also I was thinking maybe if you used a really powerful micro servo it would fit easier. Trick there obviously is finding a good servo in that size. Add to the challenge if you want waterproof. I can tell you from experience to stay away from the traxxas ones. Gears are plastic and shred at the slightest hint of stress.
Had one to shift my twin hammer 2 speed in my ascender. Lasted maybe 3 packs.

Got about 45 min. of work in today not much but sorta big. I got the cab sitting on its own made some card stock templets for some sheet metal sliders. I taped them in place and they hold and are close to being square Lol. Most likely going to revise them one more time. But like the direction they are going. Have them mounting to the out side of the cab from the rockers to the first body line about 10 mm same as the chassis side of mounting.
 
I ordered 3 link and panhard mounts.
Axle side I chose the BPC 3 link truss with panhard mount.
Chassis side I took the gamble on the HoBao DC-1 panhard chassis mount.

So we'll see how parts mix together
 
Here are my sliders I fabed up. In my mock up I have them where they mount on the outside of the cab.

After fitting to the chassis I must have missed measured cause they now need to mount on the inside which just might look cleaner anyways. Ill have to put a nut on the inside to make securing the body easier.

3 link truss with panhard came in. Should have the DC-1 panhard chassis mount today as well. Then time to mix and match some more parts.

My thoughts about mixing and matching parts worked this time.

Bpc truss fits good only down side to the Everest axles is one mounting hole vs two on scx10 type axles. I don't see a problem with it yet. Could tie other mounts closer to the diff if I wanted to strengthen it up down the road.
(Yes its backwards. Its on the back axle servo post need chopped.)


Now the DC-1 panhard chassis mount. Fits chassis rail nice and tight. Clearance looks tight with truss but its not fully seated. So should gain room once servo posts get chopped.



Another thought for down the road 3 link front and rear with same parts.
Or
Pick up a scx10 housing and leaf the rear.
 
Got a little time to get some work done.
Cut servo posts and rock finders from Everest axle.
Installed 3 link truss.

I also clearanced the frame by them motor to pivot it down more for more upper link clearance. Worked on a intermediate shaft from trans to t-case I think I figured that out maybe. Swapped shorter rod ends on front lowers. still to play with the skid some to get rod ends to fit. Then cut up some cut to g board for a cms mount. To work out drag link and panhard.
