Help me choose a SERVO i know i know

Can't go wrong with hitec in my experience. I just got a hobbies c-170 in a trade and so far I am really happy with it. It seems the same as the 7955. But I would go with a hitec.

Hitec service and availability...love it.
Quality products with good ratings.

I go for the 7955tg on all my comp rigs for steering, I use the 5645 for my 1.9 and 1.55 campfire rigs and dig units, and then the wife and kids rigs and all the winches are the 645 model. When they fail......replacement is question free if you send it in. As far as price .....a TRUE VALUE. I like their run temp, smoothness, holding power and most of all the centering precision.

my 2 cents."thumbsup"

I found the Hitec 7954 on fleabay for $84.95 so I snatched that up and since I was planning on spending around a 100 bucks I also got a CCBEC to go with it. I know with the HolmesHobbies torquemaster you dont really need a bec but guess it can't hurt to run it either"thumbsup"

Thanks again for all the helpful suggestions and ideas

Nice choices all the way around"thumbsup"

Good to know, I've been needing to get a decent servo for my SCX10. I'm thinking I may go with the Hitec 645.

I have a 9.95 China special.....wanted to see how it worked, still going a year later. 208oz @6v

Just curious if you were considering the 645 as a steering servo? It works well in 1/10 buggies, and accessories, but it sucks as a steering servo, with only 133 oz of torque. I had one that came with my lcc, and even with a ccbec it was waaaay weak.

The 645 is a great servo and I run one of those on my stock honcho for quite some time but i did burn it up. with the weight of the rig and the the tire size you really punish that servo. IMO you can't run any tire bigger then a 1.9 Flatiron without overstepping the 645 limits. The 5645 is slightly stronger and I ran that for a long time too. I would go that route if that's the price range your wanting to stay in.

I'm running that same servo on my sammi and it worked great and has been for a while.:) ( MRC based 1.5 tires )

Put one on the Honcho with rc4wd boggers and stripped the gears on the 1st run:x

A 645 with 2.2 tires would be VERY WEAK"thumbsup"

Greater resolution (more accurate), generally stronger torque, greater holding power (A BIG plus) .
They DO consume more, but it's worth it

greater holding power...do you mean as i the servo horn cant be pushed or knocked side to side as easy? Does it make them anymore reliable?

Yes, they tend to stay in a commanded position better than an analog servo.
No, being digital does not really make it more reliable, but, the newer digital servos tend to be better than older analog servos using better materials.

I was going to try a hobbico cs-170 because I had heard that it was a rebadged hs-5955 with the Ti gears and every thing, but minus the programability. However if hs-7954 are going in the $80 range now I'll have to look into that!

I like JR Servos myself, I picked one of these up on ebay for $95 plus shipping. It's a monster but like all JR Servos it super quiet,

Just a little update, I'm running this combo on my 5-OHHH tacoma scalier. I'm running 2.2 swampers reduced to 5.0 and 1.9 sidewalls grafted in. My rig weighs in at a piggish 7.5lbs. and this servo doesn't care one bit! I can't tell you how much I love running this servo and would strongly suggest it to anyone. Oh love it so much I bought another one for my new 1.9
FJ-40 build...yes it's overkill but for the money and piece of mind you can't beat it! This time I ordered it and it was $105 and some change!
