Help choosing a Holmes brushless motor

Hello, looking for some help picking a Holmes Hobby brushless motor for my new Blazer kit. With the U.S.-Canadian dollar the way it is, I am really wanting to try the "Buy once, Cry Once" method. I am familiar with Holmes brushed produts and run his brushed motors and esc's in my scx10's. I just figured it would be a nice change to try one of his brushless setups in this new rig.

I have been snooping through his website and..well I am baffled as to what would be a good motor for my rig. I do plan to keep this truck somewhat stock....but we all know how that ends up right? I run 90% trails with some fairly long and steep climbs. I don't do any comps or anything like that, unfortunatley RC seems to be unheard of here. It looks like I will be mostly running 2s lipo in this truck as I already have alot on hand that fit this battery tray already, I would like to eventually switch to 3s as thats what I normally run in my scx10's but for now sticking with 2s.

Sorry for the long winded question. Any help or recomendations will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. yes I tried the search feature and didn't quite stumble upon what I was looking for like i usually do and my google fu seems to be off on my question.

Well I re-read my question and it does seem pretty vague and a repeat the old "what's the best motor for my truck" question. I had a slow day at work today and I think I narrowed the motors down to the Puller Pro Standard 3500KV and the Puller Pro Stubby 3300KV motors.

So new questions haha. With smaller Stubby motor is a guy losing anything performance wise between the 2 sizes of cans? And secondly is 3500 KV a good motor choice for the Ascender that will be a trail truck?

I run his black can Torque master expert 21t and his blue 13t and love them. Low end is amazing and give a good top end. You won't cry purchasing a Holmes motor. Oh sorry, you were asking about brushless. I don't run them but if I did it would be a stubby!

Yeah I have a few of the brushed motors and love them. Just looking to try something different this time.

Hey Norton thanks for the link!!! I dunno how I missed that when I did my search. I can usually find what I'm looking for...hence being a member for quite some time and having an extremely low post count 8). But that answered my questions....now to look into that castle esc

Get a 540 outrunner. I have one in my ascender. The low speed control will make you feel like your a better "driver". I put driver in quotation marks, cause are we really driving our R/C? Nope, we're not, but I guarantee that you won't be disappointed with one, I mean there's a reason they're never in stock, everyone keeps buying them up.

Plus, they have so much torque that you can almost gear them anywhere, and still have gobs of torque. I have my ascender geared at 78/26, which is more of a limited pinion choice, due to the drivetrain changes I've made to my ascender, although the smallest pinion I could've used with my 78t spur would've been 23t., I just don't have one.

Wow! Those outrunners look and sound pretty neat! And like you said..out of stock. Thanks for making my choice a little tougher . But quick question, Can these be run in dirty environments? like sand and loose dirt, pine needles and that type of stuff? Looks like some large ports for junk to enter and ruin my day....altough the website does state they are for scale and trail trucks, just wondering.

They sure can. They do require a bit of up keep, though. I haven't had to take mine apart yet but you are supposed to be able to clean them fairly easily. The last time I dusted mine off I ran some compressed air through the ports to get any debris that I could out of it.

I have the full size Revolver in 2 of my heaviest rigs (Beast and D110) and the 3300 Stubby in 2 lighter rigs (SCX-10 andTF2). They're both great motors, but different. The Outrunner is very smooth and has ridiculous torque, but not as much top end as the Stubby. The Stubby might well be the most versatile motor I've run - compact, very powerful, silky smooth, plenty of low-end torque, lots of top end speed, and it's quieter than the Revolver. It does everything well in a very compact package. As a first brushless, I'd go with the Stubby. If you decide you like brushless after running the Stubby, you can throw a Revolver in your next rig. But you really can't go wrong either way. "thumbsup"

Well I'm glad you guys got me look at those motors. I wasn't going to post my question as I didn't want to add another "what's the best motor for my truck"question. Now i'm glad I did. Your comments have really swayed my decision over to these out runner motors. Not only do they have great specs they also look extremely cool. Now to just wait for them to come in stock and try to scoop one of them before they got out of stock again.

As a first brushless, I'd go with the Stubby.

Have a puller pro 3300 in my bomber and a 2200 going in my ascender. Love em.
