Been a while since I got on here. Been helping a bud with his 1:1 bronco project.
Got a little time in this morning.
Got my REC nuts installed

And discovered a 7/16 eight point socket fit the wrench

Also got the interior in, yes, it's paper, and I didn't think about water when I put it in because I try not to get over the axles while driving.

Got my windshield in place too.
One of the pieces got stepped on at some point, but the star fracture gives it character

So I broke a leaf spring.
And then I looked harder.
I broke 6 of 8 leaves on the tractor.
Apparently the $25/set eBay leaves are brittle.
So I made some from a lawnmower recoil spring.

Way easier than drilling holes in the leaves is punching them.
I use an M3 nut as a lower die and a taper punch as the upper.

This is my walking beam setup

But here’s the pile of broke leaves

The rear still has all 8, but throwing it on the shipping scale puts the rear at only 6.75 lbs (3kg)
The front clocks in at 12.5 lbs (5.7kg)

Overall weight with Squeak the cat is 30.8 lbs!

This morning activity, I bought the cheapest driveshafts evar to put this together. Instead of splines, it’s a D shaft, which means if you have torque applied, it won’t slide due to binding and then it pops out the cvd cross pin.
So I’m upgrading to the second cheapest drive shafts, ‘nese punisher copies. They have 6 splines, and need a little filing to slide smoothly, but for $15/pair they’re fantastic.

I had to lengthen one for my main prop shaft. This runs from the transmission to transfer case.

I started with a 10mm shaft I turned down to 7.5mm to fit inside the shaft. I’m adding 30mm to the length.

The splines in the female side are only about 20-25mm long, the rest is round inside

Looks like the length is good so it’s off to the welder

Welded, sanded, and installed. You can see another one I already replaced but had to shorten.

So today’s project, steel reinforced fenders!
I kept breaking the angles off the tractor and trailer fenders, so I cut out some stainless pieces and bent them up.

ShoeGoo is a marvelous thing

While I was at it, I used some old inner tube and made proper mud flaps

So I got new foams in. These are advertised for trucks over 10 lb. they are a two stage foam. The outer layer is still squishy, but the inner layer is firm. I got them into the tires today.

Flat on the left full on the right.

There is still a decent amount of squish but a major improvement in keeping the tread from folding over when pushed sideways.

I finally got off my butt and got my wiring done. The articulation servos are now powered by a CC BEC at 7.2v while the 6v 5a BEC runs the radio and steer axle.

It’s a success. The rig will articulate at a dead stop on carpet now.

I got it all put back together. But a problem I’ve had is the crane was missing which sat on the rear bumper.
I figured out how to get one though.

I found a 1:144 scale 3D model of a hemtt about 30x8x6mm. Cut the crane off of it, and enlarged it 2750% to get the crane about 200mm wide.
Then I fired up the printer

Printing time with all the support structures is 32 hours.
I have about 6 hours left as of this morning.
