I need to get some strip for the tank details and put a filler cap on and I'll be a work light away from done-ish on the drivers side modifications.

The HEMTT has a round air cleaner and a tool box and hydraulic tank normally

But wait! There's more!
Today's progress:
I rooted in my 1:24 model kit toolbox and found some sheets of 015 and used the paper cutter to make 1/8" wide strips for the tank seam and tank straps.
I also grabbed an old 6x9 speaker grill

And cut a square out.
A little bend and cut later

And the radiator shroud is complete.
I added small hinges between the shroud and motor cover so I can flip it up to access batteries etc.

Then I got some paint on it

The exhaust goes on the right side and I got a good start on it.
I used toilet supply line 3/8 copper tube for the pipe, and a grill from an old set of computer speakers with some copper strap and soldered it together.

A little flat black should hide the sins.

Super cool. Have you driven just the front half by itself yet? I'd be tempted just to see how silly it drives.

Re: Hairba11's mk48/17 (4x4 tractor + 4x4 trailer = 8x8)

I've got it set up with the batteries under hood so I can do just that! I'll have to get video of course

Re: Hairba11's mk48/17 (4x4 tractor + 4x4 trailer = 8x8)

So got a little done this morning. The front bumper is held on with four screws so I was able to put some paint between the layers.
I also put locktite on some screws and driveshaft set screws and then paint the chassis and wheels black.

I also picked up some led's prewired for 6v which will be the next step

Started scraping off green paint and adding lense colors. The beauty of having some mil surplus vehicles around is the ability to not be perfect with paint. A little overspray on the tires/lights/windows is scale. Field repairs that don't look correct happen.
And replacement parts come out of the package solid green, or whatever color you can get out of the boneyard.

I got lights done.

The light buckets had real lenses with them

They put a decent spot of light on the wall and almost point in the same direction.

I'm down to windows and trying to convince myself not to just make black windows and slack off on an interior.

A rig this cool definitly needs an interior! "thumbsup"

Very nice work! Looks mean!

Re: Hairba11's mk48/17 (4x4 tractor + 4x4 trailer = 8x8)

Ok. So the votes for interior win.
So working on mk48 interior today. Found a scan of a 1:35 hemtt decal sheet. Photo editing made it 1:10.5 and I got one 5x7 print from Walgreens for $2.75. Not bad for a super awesome detailed dash.

Yeah. I have sticky shipping labels but no color printer, so I'm going to glue the photo pieces down

Re: Hairba11's mk48/17 (4x4 tractor + 4x4 trailer = 8x8)

I got it dirty today!
Met up with some buds and spent about two hours playing in a creek bed

Couple of glued on parts came unglued, lost a wheel drive pin and nut, couple of loose set screws, ground wire on the lights broke, but overall I'm calling it a win!

The group already had an rc4wd Beast in it, this thing started getting called the Monster.

We did a turning circle test, it's almost as tight as a TF2 which is incredible for an 8x8.

Re: Hairba11's mk48/17 (4x4 tractor + 4x4 trailer = 8x8)

Started in on the interior, not quite sure how it's going to get installed as the cab is all glued together with a barely hand sized access hole in the bottom.

These two get joined by a 3" wide center console top

Lots of thinking about how to install/paint/detail.
I might complete it and cut the floor out of the cab to install and put the floor back in.

Anyone have any better ideas?

That seems the most logical method
