Thanks guys. I really didn't want to hack into Guido but as things are going along I'm liking the looks better than before. Hopefully the performace comes along ok.

Nice work.

Now lets see what else you have in store.
Thanks Pat. 8) We'll get there, slowly but surely. :ror:

Very nice Chris...you know I like that truss. With things like that, it's always worth it in the end. Those rear links are HOT too! Keep it up, but don't make it too nice .
Thanks Tim. I wanted to challenge myself more ever since you did your door inserts and rear shock mounts so I am trying to follow through with that. "thumbsup"
God, I really need my own garage so i can do this stuff. AMAZING work sir!
You'll get there Norm. I wish mine was insulated and heated. We just gotta go one step at a time. Thanks man, I can't wait to see how yours buggy comes along once you get it. "thumbsup"

Amazing work!

Got any updates? i cant wait to see more, great work man "thumbsup"

Thanks guys. 8)

Work finally slowed down for me and I was able to take my half day on Friday so I got a fair bit done.
First up this week was to finish the steering. I got rid of the Dubro plastic "steering box" and welded a piece of 1/4" brakeline to the frame and cut out a new pitman arm out of 1/8" steel. With the lowered ride height and the hi-steer knuckles there was no need for a drop pitman arm anymore.

Then I got to work on the rear suspension. I made some new coil springs mounts out of .060" steel. I narrowed the frame in the rear for shock clearance so I had to make coil mounts that were wider to keep the springs out as far as possible.

Then I started cutting out the old shock mounts in preparation for the new dual mounts. Somehow I accidently cut off the whole back end of the chassis. :???: :ror:

Curse you War Pig and your bad ass suspension mounts!! :flipoff: :ror:

I spend 1 1/2 days making these shock mounts so I could have something cool too. :ror: Wow, what a bucketload of work they were.

Since my suspension loads are handled by the coil spring mounts and these are just shock mounts I decided not to go too crazy with them. I spent alot of time looking at Trophy truck mounts, figuring out what would fit, and this is what I came up with. I think they turned out pretty allright. "thumbsup"

Here are some random shots of how it sits.

You can see the rear coil spring mount/frame brace. The rear tow point will mount to this as will the rear bumper.

Also some shots of the steering. You can see that the servo is in the "engine cradle". The Parma motor will fit right over the servo to hide it. I had to redo the front crossmember because it was in the way of the steering link so I tied the front of the cradle into it as well.

The steering works good. There is no bump steer at all in straight compression/extension and just a little bit in articulation. The drag link is longer than the panhard bar so not much I can do without getting rid of the coil springs.

It's kind of creepy to see Guido all cut to pieces.

But just like the 6 million dollar man, he will be better, faster, and more capable after his transformation!"thumbsup"

Last we have some more random shots.

First one gives an idea of the wheelbase and ride height. Any guesses as to what I did to the body? And no I'm not talking about narrowing the front end.

Rear shot showing the start of the rear bumper.

A few more shot of the shock mounts. I like them things. :ror:

And finally an early stage flex shot to make sure I get that in there. :ror:

That's right! Still working on the bionic eye thing though.

I was just telling Heather tonight that I am glad I decided to change Guido because I am liking him better and better as the transformation goes on. "thumbsup"
