GT3B Hack kit- Pre-order

Recieved my programming kit about a week ago. Thank you.

Running window's Vista and can't seem to open the sttoolset file linked on rctech. What program do I need to use to open it? Windows picks media player and won't open it.

Is there an almost-idiot-proof instruction on how to program this yet? All the directions I've seen so far look like greek to me.

Download it, then right click on the folder, and click extract. Then open the folder and run the install

No i have had alot of projects on my plate, i should have the install manual finished next week, and hopefully have the operating manual started

When I right click on "sttoolset" I don't get an option of extract. What am I doing wrong?

It is listed under type as a zip file. Although, I'm not sure what that means...

I don't have vista so i can't say for sure how to "unzip" or extract the files...but somewhere on the right click menu should say extract, uncompress
, un zip, etc...or double click on it, open it up, then look and see if on your menu bar (on the left or top) and see if it says extract all files, if it doesn't double click on the .exe file and it should ask you if you want to extract it.

I don't use vista so i can't give exact details, sorry.

I just went and booted up the laptop...when i right clicked on it i seen a extract all

or if you double click in the top menu bar i seen a "extract all files" this is the best i can do.

Thanks for the assistance, but I think that Vista just sucks. I had a heck of a time getting the Castle link software to download and work correctly.

I am positive that there isn't any of those options listed when I right click on the file. Weird, I know. Maybe someone else with Vista will chime in with a solution.

If it double click the file a popup saying "unable to open sttooset.zip" is displayed. When I right click it and then click on "open with" the only program listed that will even open it is microsoft notepad, and then it just shows a bunch of jibberish that isn't even numbers or english letters.

Sometimes, I swear the purpose of computers is to piss people off.

Say I was to try this on another computer. What version of windows would you suggest I work with. Will it work with an OS 9.0 system by chance?

Strange, the vista i have on the laptop had it, i wonder whats the diff.

I'd suggest xp, is os 9.0 mac or linux? as far as i know it requires a windows os

i'll see if i can upload just the .exe i'll post back in afew mins

Ok its letting me uploaded the unzipped version, it will take awhile though, my internet is slow...i'll have you a link here in alittle while

So I downloaded WinRaR, and then was able to right click and select extract. Then it opened the install wizard for sttoolset. I followed through the prompts until I got to finished. Once I selected that the install wizard closed.

Now I can open the sttoolset.zip, but all it shows is the same gibberish that is displayed when I originally opened it with Microsoft notepad.

Somehow I feel like I am in way over me head. Thank you both very much for the assistance.

The other comp I can use is a Macbook with OS9. Sounds like that isn't the hot ticket either.

Edit: I just go the user manual for STMicroelectronics to open. That should keep me busy for a while.

I think the user manual will make you hate this...and it really won't apply to what you need to do.

Download and run that link i posted (my last post) this is not a compressed folder, but the app itself.

Alright, I am slowly getting there. The noncompressed folder downloaded and opened just fine. Thank you losikid.

I have gotten as far as selecting st link on the left row, swim in the middle, and the correct programmer ending in 5x6 on the right.
After selecting that I am shown a matrix of sorts with a gray row on the left of mosty 0's with another number thrown in the middle, and all the other rows are 0's. I think this is where I have to open my new programing.

Is semerad-gt3b-acf8400\Releases\gt3b-ch3-0.3.2.s19 a valid firmware? Once I open it all I have to do is connect the transmitter to the comp and then select program current tab to actually program the radio.

Sorry if this is so basic, my computer skills are lacking, but my determination is high.

And ya know what, the directions do make me hate this. I read a couple pages, had to stop reading and laugh at what I have gotten myself into.

ok you have it it all setup and installed, now close out of it and reboot your computer.

Once the cpu has been rebooted, plug your radio into the programmer (black arrow on sb1 side on the programmer and button side on the radio) now plug the programmer into the cpu, open up stvp (st visual programmer), open (file-open) the firmware you downloaded, and then click program (program-current tab)

You should have a progress bar at the bottom of the page, once in the dialog box above it says verification complete, go ahead and unplug the radio and turn it on, be sure to calibrate it

Yea the user manual is for coders and tech guru's...you won't be using the programmer or developer other than to upload the code to the radio, so the user manual for stvp doesn't need to be read, i'm still reading it on my free time, its long.

Just when I think I'm almost there...

Right after I click program current tab I get a popup saying "SVT GUI stopped working" then followd by "windows is closing program". I did restart the computer before trying it.

I tried several times with the same results, and then cut the board in two as mentioned. The only difference is now the transmitter doesn't beep when plugged into the computer.

Ok download this and install , i unzipped it for you, its a patch

also you'll need to follow a new plug in procedure since you snapped your board in two, here it is (it doesn't beep any more because the programmer no longer provides power)

Man, I gotta tell you this is customer service like no other. Where else will you get live help at midnight? Thanks for you help losikid, you'll be getting more of my business in the future.

So, miracles behold. I downloaded the patch, followed the directions in the last link for programming with the board snapped in two, and it has reprogrammed. And even more impressive is that it linked up to the reciever of my SCX just like factory. So, I'd say job well done.

The functional Expo helps tremondously with low speed control and precision.

Sixteen model memory! This may be the last radio I ever need. Who am I kidding, I need a spare one at least. I think hobbypartz.com has some more in stock already...
