I'm looking for suggestions or input from those of you who are familiar with the variety of tube chassis makers out there. I'm hoping to find an experienced vendor willing to make a good quality XL size custom tube frame for a new and large fun crawler/basher I'm planning.
This rig's gonna be large and fairly hefty (see specs below). In an effort to help keep weight to a minimum, I would think some type of hollow tube for the chassis would be most suitable as long as it is strong, but I need help in deciding this. The bottom line is I'm hoping that I can locate an experienced, talented tube chassis maker who can do a good job with this. Since I have no experience with any of their products, any suggestions from y'all would be much appreciated.
I'll briefly explain what I'm up to. I'm planning something in the way of a big ol' gnarly crawling/bashing type of rig to run at the large campground where we keep our 5th wheel camper. There are a hundred plus truck guys who camp there so I want this rig to be able to catch a lot attention and hopefully get some of them interested in rc trucks and crawlers. I'm planning to do this with a new rig having an 18" (maybe 20") wheelbase with a tube chassis & panel design that would put one to mind of an H1 Humvee. I need the long wheelbase (and tall ground clearance) to be able to clear most of the large obstacles around the grounds and in he wooded areas there. Things such as rocks, hills and gullys with a lot of natural obstacles, as well as RR ties, old steep wooden stairs in the woods, etc., etc. I have the completed axles, servos, wheels & tires ready and I would like to have the chassis made next. Some of the spec's for the truck are 4WS, 4WD, shafty with fully hopped up and widened (for maximum stability) Twin Force axles with the 4.10 steel helicals, new Vertigo spools, cvd's, etc. with 40 series Rock Crushers on beadlocks, 333oz. servos, etc. Tough stuff. I'm not sure on the transmission yet and I'm researching brushless setups for the most power I can reasonably put to the ground with this big dawg of a rig. Probably a Mamba Max with a big outrunner!?! This rig's gonna see a lpt of abuse so it needs to be strong & tough.
What I'm saying is that it will be rather heavy, (about 15 to 18 pounds) so I would like to have the chassis made as strong yet as light as possible for this application.
