Any golf cart guys out there? Ive got some questions as im buying one this week and throwing on some nice tires,my own long travel suspension and lift and a 440 sled motor. I was wondering if the axle is up to the task of offroad use, are they fairly strong? because im new to this.

anyway it is a yamaha probly mid 90's thats all i know for now untill i look at it.

prerunner with lots of suspension travel roll cage and 80+ ponys under the seat. :)

we got 3 lifted golf carts, all wit like 23" atv tires. never messed wit the motor tho. we beat the crap outta them and nothin has boke.

The last time I went golfing, me and some of my friends went after it rained. when we started our carts were green, when we were finished they were brown.

the rear ends are pretty stout. We have had good luck with them. I am right now working on a G1 yamaha that now has a 440 john deere sled motor on it and lowered 4" in the front and 3" in the rear....slicks on the back and skinnys on the front like a drag car. Here is a pic of out old electric cart that was a basket case when I got it...

All it was used for was to pull the dragster around the pits

my friend had the front end done like you want to on his golf cart. its so smooth. it has 10"kings in it. but thats all i can help you with. i know nothing about those.

the strongest rear ends(for new models) is the EZ GO golf carts, and the strongest hands down is the 1978-1979 model harely davidson (four wheels not three) the rears was made by DANA and set up just like a 1:1 ie spider gears side gears, and even have a pinion brake installed on the yoke!!

Yep, RBL knows his stuff, We have a Dana plant here and I have a friend that has worked there most of his adult life, he got ahold of a 79 AMF/Harley Davidson with that rear and a few years back we made our own low budget 4x4 by putting 2 of those axles on his buggy/cart, we hooked them up to 2 riding lawnmower trannys. We ran a 500cc liq cooled snowmobile motor. A crazy contraption is was to say the least. But it worked well, just had to have both trannys in same gear. We were working on a mod using a snowmobile clutch when the barn were we had it stored in burnt to the ground.
But anyway, yep thats rear your looking for, I 2nd the hands down.

P.S. Cool looking cart Geislerj3!!

thanks! 8) but being a golf pro and owning a few golf carts, plus being a few beers away from drunk and putting them threw there paces  always helps

great thats what i wanted to hear. Now im tryin to decide do i want to go fast of do i want to build a crawler/basher out of it.

btw nice kart

would it be worth makin a 2wd crawler with 23"s a grader ball rear suspension and 4 link front? or should i stick with the prerunner idea im confused.

Well, how do you feel about going the pre-runner route and hauling A$$, then saving some cash, swapping in a front axle and slowing down? Then you could figure out which is more fun the old-fashioned way!
