My thoughts on the Vanquish shock adjuster

pics?

I'm curious to see how it looks.

Here are the pics of it mounted upside down. i did some testing yesterday in a rock garden and it seems to work fine. true test will come sunday at racing.

with my shock adjuster mounted upside down like in the pic above it ended up bending. worked well but its to high up and in harms way.

Great review thanks .. the positives high speed cornering and ground clearance improved? Negatives impacts concentrate the landing force threw the shocks the cage is impacted and it's positioning is more likely to be damaged.

Have you had a chance to race it with the adjuster mounted? I'd be real interested in hearing about that experience and your opinion?

i ran the truck with it mounted in the regular (stock) position and there is more ground clearance but the shocks bottom out before the chassis and i did not like that. i flipped the mount upside down and although the shocks still bottom out 1st the chassis is very close to bottoming out as well and im sure it dose with the ground being not level.

yes i took it racing. the truck with the mount flipped upside down handled well.i could go into the corners faster and it went through the rocks well BUT i noticed the mount was bent later on in the day. i suspect that since its higher mounted upside down that it takes hits during tumbles and what nots.

so iam unsure what to do now. straighten the mount or go back to mounting the shocks on the tower.

i dont feel that its their fault as it didnt bend till i mounted it upside down.

just a thought... what if you do some 85mm or slightly shorter gmade xd shocks so it does not bottom out on the shock body as fast and im sure its just enough to still eliminate chasis slap. only thing i can think of suffering would be droop travel.

Last night i was feeling inspired and mounted a summit bumper on my shock tower, purely out of curiosity. I noticed the same limited amount of travel when compressed. I had the idea of trying some shorter front shocks or shorter shafts or longer shock bodies. The first pic is the bumper mounted, second is the gtr shocks, third is the lower link stiffeners that will be used as the relocation tower by attaching them together and mounting them on the shock tower

i seen a video on youtube of some dude using the shock keys for the scx10 on his front tower.

I picked up one of the shock adjusters myself and from what I can see all it does is give you less front shock travel which is not what I'm going for. As has been mentioned already the shock needs to compress somewhat when installing it on to the shock adjuster. If you flip it upside down you're completely defeating the point of running the adjuster. As for the more upright shock position that isn't necessarily a good thing either. Leaning the shocks at an angle makes it more progressive and firm up on bigger hits as you go deeper into the shocks travel. All in all this adjuster really is just a shock stroke limiter. I have it available if anyone is interested all the same. Just shoot me a PM here.

I do not like mine either. It makes front way higher and shock travel distance is very limited. I did not drove it yet and Im thinking I even do not try it as Im dissapointed with how it feels.

Once they arrive I will mout new PROLINE Power Stroke Shocks (6063-01) back on tower and put 45wt oil into them - that should be much better.

There is something that you can do that will make the shock adjuster actually do what it is intended to do. If you look at the bottom of the chassis where the lower control arms mount to the truck body, you will see that the chassis actually stops the arms from dropping any lower than the current position. Take the arms off and use a file or Dremel tool etc to remove a little material where the arms come into contact with the chassis. This will allow the arms to droop or hand lower when you run the adjuster. The shocks will no longer be limited in travel either. I have done this mod as have a number of others and it works awesome! :)

Thanks for that, sounds promising [emoji2]

Do you have any issues with the axles popping out or binding with the extra droop?

I gave it a try and must say that high speed handling is improved vith shock adjuster. It is definitely good for going fast and maybe for racing. If you bash hard and do lot of high jumping, then longer suspension travel without adjuster would be better IMO.
