1 servo should be fine 2 is not and your not trying to run the servo directly off a 2s battery like it sounded like homeboy was trying to do some servos are rated for 2s lipos some manufacturers even recomend them most arnt

though most servos are rated for 6.6v



the bec would.take some strain off the stock electronics but i dont know if it needs one or not

ferp420, yeah a bec would make a great addition to take the load off the stock electronics and power the servos directly from the battery, plus on castle bec's you can set the voltage and the amps. "thumbsup"
 
This is probably a dumb question but... if the servos are powered directly from the battery, how do they "know" when to engage/turn? I thought the variation of voltage or current is what is causing the servo to go left/right?
 
braindancer, so there are 3 wires on a servo, positive (red) negative (black) then a signal (yellow) or some times (orange) if a battery is connected directly to the servo using the red and black wire it still will need the signal wire to tell it what to do, I found a clip explaining a bec and how all that kinda works hope this helps, good luck to ya. Hmmm. Found a battery that was at 6 volts; behavior is same. The servos turn fine for about a minute, then start stuttering and both lock up (even though I was actively controlling only the front servo).

Will try to replace one of them with an original and see what happens.
 
braindancer, sounds like a bad servo alright, if it had normal electronics id say put a glitch bluster on it but no can do and I know my servos don't do that. Again mite see about getting them replaced they mite warranty them who know again good luck to ya. "thumbsup"

your browning out your servos there drawing to many amps or there already toast i would try them on a different rig if at all posable

if you have a standered reciver you should be able to unplug the esc and plug the 6v battery in to the reciver and have steering

i have a servo that dose the same thing if i try to run it of the esc but plugging a battery in to the reciver or a bec and it works fine


ether way save your dead servos for parts down the road

Yeah like ferp420 defiantly save your dead servos for parts down the road, also, braindancer what setup are you running IE; electrics and battery? I dont feel like you should be having this much trouble. hopefully we can get you sorted out. "thumbsup"

I ended up switching one of the 20kg servos back to stock (3kg or whatever it is) and the browning-out is gone. Everything seems hunky-dory now. Thanks for your guys' help!

@bbolden I am running everything stock (ESC and such) and a 5200 mAh 2S battery.

30 seconds after unboxing I discovered that the lower links from a Gen7 swap into the Ridgerock. About 5 minutes later, the pen spring mod was completed. Haven't even charged the battery and looking to cut the body to mount it lower. Hope it doesn't rain in the am as I'd like to go test this out.
 
braindancer, I too have used those and they work great, I do however like to keep the weight down so I use smaller 3S lipo Zippy 1300 MAH, and yes Crashoverrideplik, If you look back at my thread I've been using Lipo 3S almost the whole time on this rig and love the perforce gain it has given me. Look back to page one pics 3/4 and my 1st post and I tell and show the packs I run, hope this helps. "thumbsup"
 
braindancer, yes you are correct on both accounts but for whatever reason, I have had good luck and i know the servos work better with 3s as apposed to 2s, I have a flysky gt5 already and once the electronics fry ill build my own custom setup, with digs and 4ws maybe some different axles with 540 or 550 cans, for now though its been holding up just fine. Has anyone made any new vids or builds seems like I haven't seen anything in awhile, I personally started building a 99 jeep xj during the covid19.
