Clanker's Hulksta

Guts yes all internal orings, shims, shafts, what not.

The piston is the only thing which will not fit. Most run the machined pistons from the scx10 icon shocks .

Thanks Curcal

Figured as much...hate that my LHS hasn't got any...another RPP order...I just don't have any...5 SCX 10 builds and never kept one set of shocks...who'd a thunk ?

Couldn't find you guys, knew how to get to Beals Point coz I'd been there before.
Also didn't have as much time as I'd hoped either.

I'll be there....not building this thing to look at :

I did get my smashed unit back from Heyok...dual FXRs and a BEC. I'll post a pic up later.
I also decided to go with the Flysky set up for a couple reasons. First, because I could get the hack and the dig all set up at one place. Let's just say I'm pretty sad at setting up the electronics and programming and this was just the best alternative for me right now. Which brings me to the second reason...
I would have a second rig for a buddy to run the same time I do with the Futaba running the mantis.

So, I have the GT3C on the way, Egressor shocks and still waiting on the chassis and links...should be soon now.

Got to score a couple 70 mm shocks...anybody have any favorites?

Gearing??? Is it still good practice to have a smaller tooth pinion in the front to help steering? i'm thinking 13t rear 12t front to start.

That's all for now

The smash unit from Heyok...

I can already tell I'm going to have to move that BEC ...still like the looks of this stuff.... nice work from Al

Then today's mail

"thumbsup":mrgreen:

The reason I started this thread....

I finally get to touch it :shock:

Check it out

I think this is one of the shock mounting points

Got some fine looking links from "Mr. Links"

Nice and light Ti

Looks like I have some wrenching to do this weekend "thumbsup"

Nice work on the pics, they are better than the ones i get in the office but i think its the LED lighting that is the issue... Keen to see progress :)

Progress yes..Some this weekend. Some frustration also...I took some pics, but didn't like them...ill shoot some more.

I built a couple scx10 shocks and fitted them in the chassis with a couple of springs I found in my vault of rc parts. A local crawl buddy had some parts and I borrowed some pieces I had set aside for the Egressor shocks to complete this...I just had to see this in action. Thanks for the trade Stuck "thumbsup"

What a masterful piece of engeneering. I must have flexed it 200 times...I wonder just how much it would go if the brace wasn't there...or set at one of the lower holes.

I then put the links together and attached everything up. I really like the links, they measured a shrug under 12.5" wb right out of the box.

No shocks yet....which leads me to the frustration I mentioned earlier.
I don't care for building shocks...never have. Well, these Egressor's take bits and pieces from different parts bags, (Traxxas, axial) different springs...mini-t springs don't fit...so then what. I have no idea what to try...they never give you any specs on spring sizes.
I cannot get the "C" clip in the end of the shock tube....I even bought a tool. Managed to get one of them in there but crooked....mangled the other one to the point of needing a new one....I have to order some more parts to finish the Egressor's.....this has been going on all week.

Today I gave up on the Egressor shocks. I have 4 BB's waiting...with springs, everything I need. I will mock this up with them for now, and take better pics after that.

My bet is the Egressor shocks will return...when I get the missing parts ...and my parience back.

Thanks for looking.....

Yeah Egressor shocks are the go once you get all the bits to finish them.

Ive got some handy shock building tuning tips here for a read too "thumbsup"

Cheers
Dan

So the regular shocks I can deal with pretty much....with the exception of the C clip ::flipoff: I'll throw more punches at it tonight

but the "Hulksta" shocks with the internal spring....I'd been interested in that info Dan. It's certainly a different approach.
Thanks for everything Dan

Yes, throw more punches at it....I got the C clips in :flipoff:
Now just waiting on the parts

Pics as promised

Can't wait to get some shocks and wheels on this and see the stance.
Got my Flysky set up today, time to get serious about electronics.

Again...thanks for looking

I'll take a few natural light pics outside tomorrow morning
Then take the axles off and put the H H 16's in there and go thru the gears. I think I'm opting for the Rowdy Racing behind the motor electronics mount...haven't really seen anybody's guts well enough to get any hints on electronics mounting. I'm not sure my junk is low enough to use the small tab that comes with the chassis.

It's starting to come together
Can't make the local crawling this weekend...was hoping to, just too soon, a couple weekends off if things go well.
Pretty pleased with what I've seen here, I could jab it up I suppose, suffice it to say the chassis is amazing..."thumbsup" the more I fiddle with it the more I like it. I hope I can drive it
Comments??? How's it look Hulksta? Thanks for looking

I thought so too....although the links are pretty level

They are a little longer than a 100mm BigBore...I think the style of cap made it long. What kind of skid clearance do you run Dan?

Those caps definitely make the shocks longer... If you run them you're going to want to internally limit the shocks to get it down close to 90mm as I'm assuming that's what size shock that chassis was built around... The truck is definitely sitting a little bit high right now...

It's looking great though and definitely coming together "thumbsup"

so high and the little extra weight inside the chassis is not gonna make a ideal COG.. extra weight I mean the 2x shocks
what is youre wheelbase??

I cant remember measurements, i tune off feel and sight.

This was my rig though (It was sold a few months ago as having a break from crawling) and notice how it sits nice and low, you need to take advantage of the feature and drop the rig more than most run their conventual chassis "thumbsup"

Your shocks are way too long, the springs are way too stiff and you have the preload wound right up... the're pro crawlers not scalers mate :)
Loose the caps, put rcbros soft springs in, take all the preload out, you only want about 1mm of preload to hold the springs from shaking about. For memory i had 6mm internal 3mm external limiting in the rear, 3-6mm internal in the front. Oil was 50wt allround.

There you go, something to look at and some numbers to shoot for.
I'm shooting in the dark here...really looking for feedback as that's the only way I'm going to get this right. It's not going to hurt my feelings

There's no pre load on those springs...those are losi mini-t rear springs, probably a bit too stiff though. Even with the other style cap and a 7mm limiter internal the Egressor's don't have the throw of a 90mm BigBore...plus they're leaking
Not sure why I jumped on these shocks for this rig...but I don't think they're the right ones.

Time for plan b on the shocks

I actually checked my wheelbase this morning...it was 11-7/8" floki , I'd like to see it a little longer.

Didn't get to put any real time into this today hopefully tomorrow is better

Thanks again for the feedback "thumbsup"

Once you drop the rig it will stretch out "thumbsup"

Sorry if i sounded a bit short in my reply, been a big day and just trying to get around to everyone :(

I didn't learn overnight hey, its all a big learn curve but its a blast seeing the rig come together, then when its dialed you pull of a line no one else could and it makes you feel good

Have fun with the build, I'll stop in as often as i can and help where i can "thumbsup"
