Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

First things first, thanks for putting this guide together it is packed with information! Im very new to this (former nitro guy) and I really like my stock motor. I dont want to change a thing, it is the perfect mix of speed and torque for how I use it. As I read this though, it sounds like my motor is marked for death - is there a more durable 20t motor out there? Or is the short life expectancy just the nature of how its geared?

Gearing and low resistance motors are not a great mix in this realm. Going to something like a 27t, rehearing and stepping up your voltage can give a a much better all around package.

I just picked my Tekin ROC 412 2300kv and a MMP. Have stock gearing and will change when I strip them. I'll have fun till then.

I know your post is a little old but I thought I would ask, what gearing did you end up with? Are you running 3s or 2s? I just bought the same motor. I'm running 3s and would like to go 4s in the future. Maybe I should have bought the 1800kv?

I run the 3100 on 2S geared 20/80. For 4S, the 1800 would be the best choice and I'd gear 17-20/80 (unless you swapped to 32p.)

Harley, got a problem maybe you could help? I have a wraith built bomb proof, mmp, redline 13.5,on 3s. It cogs down low at start-up and has little or no drag brake. I can only manually change settings on the esc right now, drag break is set to 40%,brake set at 100%,deadband set on quickest speed. It's just not smooth on start-up and has no hill hold. Tx is a 4pl. Already checked to make sure the sensor wire is hooked up. Coming from a ax10 with novak rooster crawler w/55t am I expecting to much? What would be your suggestions on set- up and settings be? Thanks in advance if you or anyone can help.

Make sure the sensor wire is not damaged. Maybe try a different one if you have one. Also make sure you are in sensored mode. Turn the drag brake up for more drag break and yes you probably are expecting to much from that motor.

X2 check continuity of each wire in the sensor wire.

Ok im getting ready to order a sidewinder 3 and a tekin 35 turn pro. I am running 87/18 48 pitch right now on 2s 3000mah 20c and a 2s 5000 mah 20c seperat packs with stock esc and a 35turn atomic seald can motor. My question is will I notice a big difference in speed at all cause what im running right now seams really doggy for power to wheels

On 2s 35t is slow in the wraith. Try 3s, I only run 3 and 4s in my Wraith and I get good wheel speed out of it.

Harley what is your opinion of the C.C Sidewinder SC system with the 3800 kv and what gearing would be ideal for this set up?

placing an order this week for a tekin 3100kv and a mmp esc, my question is how much of an issue will weight be? I have a slightly larger then stock tire, 5.75" and total weight im guessing will be 8-10 pounds? I plan to run 3s-4s will this effect the gearing you have stated on the first page? also have axles and trans packed full of red and tacky so there is a little more drag in the diffs then stock.

Just keep track of temps and if the motor is getting over 150*f gear down and try again.

You won't likely have any issues at all. That is similar to what my setup way, only I was closer to 11-12 lbs.

So im not looking to spend cash as I already have some stuff to work with..
Esc pick... tekin RSPro or RX8?
Motor ..senserd 3800kv 4pole
Im thinking 2s lipo will be ok to keep speed down,I need wheel speed sometimes but im not racing or bashing ..just crawling mostly ttc style
Whata think?

Use the RX8. Gear down a little because that is a FAST motor.

Try to hit a 6:1 spur/pinion ratio.
