Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

burnt up the stock 20t today. Could someone suggest a motor and gearing?

Its mostly a trail rig that sees a lot of muddy hill climbs and a small amount of low speed crawling. tires are tall (rc4wd baja claw ttc's with 4oz of wieght in the front and 1oz rear)

Willing to give up some speed compared to the stock set up for more torque and dependable motor temps, still need a ok amount of wheel speed. Really only interested in HH motors. Was thinking 35t on stock gearing for a
Good all around rig?

Pick up a tekin pro4 today"thumbsup". But after I opened it I noticed that was a 4000kv. :x Now what do I do I don't think the LHS will let me exchange it  So what can I do to make this motor work I have a waterproof monster coming. :flipoff: Thanks for the help.

I would think most LHS's would exchange it. If so do it. If not then you need to gear down as far as you can.

Is there much difference between a Tekin RS and an RS Pro? the website says that the RS is for 2WD only, can someone please shead some light on this one?

Thanks, problem is that i have already ordered the RS but did not see this untill now, wil this work well on a wraith or should I look into exchanging it?

Hallo Harley,

I am upgrading my Wraith transmission gears and I have already bought the internal RRP gears but not yet the Slpper Unit.
Looking into the RRP site I find the dedicated Wraith unit (pn 1545 Axial Wraith GEN3 Slipper Unit - 80 Tooth 48 Pitch Steel Spur/Slipper Pad/Backplate/Bearing) but it has 80T. I am currently running 87T and am pretty happy with this.
I found the RRP produces also the same unit for the AX10 scoprion. it does have 88T (pn 1550 AX10 GEN3 Slipper Unit - 88 Tooth 48 Pitch Steel Spur/Slipper Pad/Backplate/Bearing).

My question is, are these 2 units compatible? I mean, can I mount the AX10's unit into my Wraith?

Many thanks for your kind reply!

PS: I could not find any support link or customer care email address in RRP's web site...

what about a 21.5 novak goat 3s with 1.9 iroks? i got an 87/29 now thats all i had.

Replied to your PM as well.

It's impossible to give advice on every setup. 1.9's are easier on the gearing of a truck so you can gear a little faster then I show in the beginning of this thread. Just watch your motor temps and adjust from there.

Hey Harley, building up a wraith kit and have a ? For the guru. I have an older novac rooster crawled from my ax-10 dinosaur a 55 turn motor or a 27 turn co 27 pro tweaked stock motor,or a 19 turn triple. Running 2s with stock gearing (I know I will have to set the timing to 0 deg. on the 27 or 19). What motor would you suggest for crawling with a little wheel speed for hills ?

Hey Harley, I'm reading the first page again and I'm a little confused. In the first post you say "Best for crawling and low speed: Holmes 35t Torquemaster pro" Then your fourth post under the one for "Pure crawling performance" it says "Best choice: Holmes 16t Crawlmaster (5 slot motor which is similar to a 27t traditional 3 slot motor)" This gave me some questions first off which would be the better choice for general crawling/trailing. On the Holmes website under the crawlmaster motor is says if you are going to run a wraith on 3s you need to use a 16 tooth pinion but under your gearing guide you suggest 84/18 though that is with a 35t Torquemaster. The last question is about the "(5 slot motor which is similar to a 27t traditional 3 slot motor)" Does this mean that the motor is comparable to a motor with a higher turn in terms of torque/speed?

I'd try the 27 first. Just watch your temps. If it gets hot you need to gear down.
