Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

Gearing : 8T pinion = 30.4:1, 9T pinion = 27.0: 1, 10T pinion = 24.3:1, 11T pinion = 22.1:1, 12T pinion = 20.3:1, 13T pinion = 18.7:1, 14T pinion = 17.4:1, 15T pinion = 16.2:1, 16T pinion = 15.2:1, 17T pinion = 14.3:1, 18T pinion = 13.5:1, 19T pinon = 12.8:1, 20T pinion = 12.2:1

found this on rc4wd site. i had been running a 55t with 14t pinion. i was happy with it. wanted more wheelspeed. though.

i have 13 and 14tooth pinions will these be ok or am i gonna get heat issues?

Hardly I'm planning on run a custom chassis about 10 pounds. I want it to be kinda a desert / mud racer so I'm going to need speed. My trans is a rc4wd axial 2speed. I was thinking of using a tekin 13.5 brushless but the mud wouldn't be good for it. So what brushed motor and esc you recommend. Also what gearing to use.

You should look into a pro4 or roc412 from Tekin. The 13.5 won't be enough. You will need to waterproof the motors on your own.

I'm not real sure of how to water proof a motor that's why I was thinking of using a brushed motor. I'm not looking for super fast speed just something around 30-35 MPH.

30-35 is SUPER fast for a truck like this. Especially at 10lbs. You will need brushless to get anywhere near that. Waterproofing isn't hard and there are lots of threads on here about how to do it, you can find them with a quick search.

Harley
I think I've read this thread a million times, but never noticed this...
From the first page

"Best Choice: Holmes 16t Crawlmaster (5 slot motor which is similar to a 27t traditional 3 slot motor)"

Isn't the 16T CrawlMaster more similar to a 35T TorqueMaster?

Harley I did a little research and I think I'm going to use the tekin roc412. What spur and pinon gear should I use.

I am running Stock gears right now, along with the Novak Timbuk 2 and Balsistic Brushless 13.5 motor powered by 2s 5000 lipo.
i please don't say get another motor...well not yet anyway.
What gears should i use get get more speed out of it??

You can't gear that motor any faster. The stock gears are already 4:1 and going any higher is not a good idea. Get a 3s lipo.

ok.. i am going to be building a wraith kit and i am debating to get the 55t HD or the 35t HD from Tekin but my real question is what gearing should i go wit ? i will be crawlin and bashin basically 50/50

@ Harley... Right now I'm running the stock motor 20T and stock ESC and started smoking as I was climbing up a dirt hill. I need something with more power but not slow like a turtle. Any suggestions on what I need to get.

Hallo Harley, I would like to kindly ask you:

- is there any 32p set up which allows mounting the stock Transmission Cover gear - I understand some spurs might be too large to fit inside the cover...
- and If there is, considering I am currently running a ratio between 6,2 to 5,4 (48p, 87/14 .. 87/16) will be there the chance to reproduce the same ratio with 32p which fits inside the cover?

Many thanks for your kind reply

I can answer that one. The largest is a 56 that will fit under the cover. 56/12 is 4.666 56/11 is 5.09 56/10 is 5.6 with puts you in the 5 ratio that seems to work.
