Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

I'm getting a wraith here in the next couple of days and looking to put my electronics from my SCX10 honcho over to it.. Any suggestions on upgrades that you guys recommend? I'm wanting to build a hill climber but still have enough slow power for trails. "thumbsup"

Post 2 will help you. For other upgrades look at the other sticky.

Re: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith

Hey Guys,

Just getting back into RC after being out of the hobby for almost 15 years. Got some Christmas money and already ordered my kit and some upgrades. Wanted to run my driveline choices by you fellas and see how I did.

MMP with Tekin 13.5t, 32P 60/15, upgrading to metal gears in tranny, MIP driveshafts, haven't ordered any axle or diff upgrades yet.

Will be doing mostly trail and dirt maybe some mild crawling.

thanks to all

Sounds real good for the most part. Axle C's and knuckles will be a good upgrade when you can.

Re: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith

Thanks Harley,

I have most of the aluminum chassis and steering upgrades on order as well.

Trying to decide which wheels to go with now. VP's will probably get the nod."thumbsup"

I shouldn't have a problem running a 4K 3S with that setup should I?

Re: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith

Yes, 4000mah.

Thanks for the nod Harley. Looking forward to building and getting out with the new toy very soon.

Re: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith

Lots of useful info here for us new to rc. I've been trying to read all the posts, but I'm cross eyed now...so I'll just ask, does anyone sell motor/esc kits? I'll be looking when my stock motor gives it up...like my 1:1, I'm a crawler but like some wheel speed to warm em up
Thanks for the help!

Holmes hobbies does.

BRXL and Crawlmaster combo, 13 turn, reverse rotation, timing for whatever voltage your battery is.

Or little cheaper

BRXL and Torquemaster combo, 27 turn, reverse rotation, timing for battery voltage.

Re: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith

Thx again, maybe I'll replace the motor sooner rather than later...

Re: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith

Alright so I just picked up a wraith and I transfered my electronics from my honcho over to the wraith.. I have the stock axial 27t motor.. Well was outside playing with it and smelled a funky smoke.. So I figured my motor is about to kick the bucket.. What do you guys suggest for a wraith with stock ESC and 2s LiPo.. I am looking at the Holmes TorqueMaster Expert 540 27t.. I will be wanting to crawl and do some hill climbs every once in awhile with it.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Re: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith

ive tried a lot of combo, batteries, and gearing
from a sc10 brushless to a havoc sc 13.5 or a tekin fxr 35t or 20t and the best so far to my kinda use is a tekin fxr matched to a old peak racing 14x2 and a 2s 60c, this truck is sick!!!
i can do cyclones till it flip 'a la monster jam'

Re: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith

Help with choosing! Choosing between HAVOC 3S SYSTEM Ballistic 17.5T or Goat 3S Crawler Brushless System Ballistic crawler 18.5T! Or advise the system, within the $ 200?

You won't find many people who will say that Novak is more dependable than castle or Tekin. The Novak also uses garbage old technology. Pure crap, I would't run them if I could buy them for half the cost.

This is 10 times the buy. Mamba Max Pro and Tekin Redline, get the 13.5 turn.

Re: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith

Thank you very much for your advice! 13.5T is too much for me, so I decided to take a 17.5T and mamba max pro.
Trust your experience! How to get and try out the system must share feelings
What gear is best to book me right away for Tekin 17.5T?I will use the 3S
And as an option to save money? Turnigy TrackStar 100A and Turnigy Mach2 13.5T reviews nothing) Do not scold me a lot))

Re: Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith

Ok Harley you are exactly who I need to ask this too. First im a "go big or go home type person and i know parts will break with that attitude but i dont want to constantly be repairing. This is what I'm working on: 1. New AX10 with MIP driveshafts, ccbec 10A, savox 1268SG servo, sedonas and a lot more upgrades to come very soon including a fastback 2 chassis. Everything else like tranny and axles are stock for this moment but will change shortly.

I am building a course in my backyard (may turn into a small comp course) that is going to have a hill 8-10 ft tall and at a 65-70 degree angle that consist of turns and is made of broken slate, flagstone and old broken ceramic tile pieces. It is not going to be a slow crawling hill at all however the rest of the course is.
I would like your opinion on a motor setup that would compare to a GM LSX454 and 456 gears in a 1.1 crawler. That motor is 650 hp stock out of crate. In the 2.2 world what would be the equilavent of running a setup like that? or is it even possible to get close too?

This thread is mainly about Wraiths. Check out some of them and see if the style of driving is what you are referring to.

Grab a Tekin Pro4 3300kv and RX8 if you want big power.
