bilinvic's Wraith Rock Crawler

Thanxs.

I would say the XOR tires are better performing than the RB2's, but I wanted a taller tire because the XORs are just shy of 5.5 inches tall.

Thanks for the input man. Got impulsive last night and I have the KLR 2.2's (gold) on order. See how those stack up on the Wraith.

I was all over the 2.2 KLRs until I found out they are just shy of 5.5 inches too...let us know what you think of them.

Tire whoring is awsome! :ror:

Would'nt the JConcepts Ruptures 2.2 at 5.94" be a good comprimise between the XOR and RB2 or the HPI white dot Rovers?

Plus they are narrower than the XOR.

what do you think about 17mm adapters and some gigantic trenchers!

Something like this?

Sorry Bill if I'm intruding.

I finally got a chance to get the DMG Wraith out today for a 4.5 hour crawl up Mt. Wells to test out the new Incision 1/4 inch SS links, Pitbull RB II tires and the Vanquish AR60 brass knuckle weights.

I'm was very cautious at first because this rigs weights in at over 10 lbs which means inevitable tumbles and rolls can break parts much easier. I eventually drove harder and more aggressive with very impressive results; this machine is extremely well planted with all the unsprung weight, especially the front end. Hill climbs were incredible.

Because I have narrowed the track width and used standard sized Gear Head RC hubs, there is significantly less stresses applied to the axles. When I got home I checked for any bent axles and they were all straight which is great because the Wraith did endure some significant tumbles today.

The only issue I encountered was breaking a Jato link end on the skid side mount of the trailing arm (Passenger side). This happened twice; luckily I carry spares in my trail kit and it only takes a couple of minutes to repair these on the trail. I have now switched them out for RPM jato length link ends.

There's no need to say much about the Pitbull RB II tires, everyone knows they kick butt on the rocks!!!

Here's a few pics from today....

Prior to getting all dirtied up!

spectacular scenery. Would love to drive there. Great Photography too!
Thanks for the info, your threads are always good reads.

Out with the old, in with the new! HiTec 7950 servo swapped out for a new Holmes Hobbies BLS HV500 Servo. The heavier Gear Head RC Five Star wheels swapped out for lighter SSD Rock Racer wheels with stock hubs. The track width works out to 11.75" which is exactly where I wanted it and less rotational weight. My Wraith was over 10 lbs so I thought a little bit of a diet was in order! I also lowered the chassis to get the LCG down a bit too....stance is everything isn't it??? lol Wheelbase is now @ 14.5".

Looks great with the beadlock color, I'm jealous of you westerners and your literal mountains of rock.

Thanxs Sneetches....I may order up a set of the new SSD silver Rock Racer wheels to see which I like better. Yes, I am very lucky to live were I do...it's truly a mecca for rock crawling with many places to go for full day excursions.

My DMG Wraith is going out tomorrow for a good long day of crawling with many other buddies.

Great run up Mill Hill today.

I extremely happy with the performance of my DMG Wraith today now that it's been narrowed up. Some of lines it pulled really were spectacular. Hopefully some video will be uploaded in the next week from nostopinLucR.

Merry Xmas to my DMG Wraith. New AMF Racing aluminum wrap-around side panels and Pro-line 2.2" Hyrax G8 Rock Terrain truck tires with P-L 2.2" dual stage foams.

I really like how the panels now wrap around the front and rear which will provide some added protection to the "guts" of my Wraith from dirt & debris. It also completely hides the forward mounted battery which always bugged me seeing it exposed under the hood through the fender wells. I wrapped the aluminum panels in blue vinyl and added the livery and matching hood stripes along the bottom edge. Since RPP is my favourite place to shop, they became the title sponsor!!! (they should in real life with all the $$$ I spend there!!!)

The P-L Hyrax tires are slightly taller than the Pitbull RB II tires they replaced which is good, this will help the fairly low slung Wraith skid with some added ground clearance. Once I get some run-time on the rocks with this new tire and foam combo I will report my findings....I hope they rock!!! (pun intended).

I ended up changing the foams...as much as I wanted to give the P-L 2.2 two stage foams a chance, I knew from my "squeeze test experience" that they were just too stiff for our rocky terrain.

The fronts are now CI 5.5 comp cut inner / soft outer.

The rears are now CI 6.0 regular inner / P-L (two stage) outer foam.

Both F & R tires feel perfect now..hopefully that will translate into some great rock crawling performance with these Hyrax skins!

After changing the foams and wheels (went to the new SSD silver RR wheels) I tested out the 2.2 Hyrax tires on my solid axle Bomber last week and was blown away by their performance. My DMG Wraith is getting it's day tomorrow to run with these new Hyrax tires and I'm very excited now that I know how good they are. Pics coming later tomorrow after the crawl.

Another great day out with the DMG Wraith.

The 2.2 Hyrax tires performed very good, but not as good as they did on my solid axle Bomber....the biggest difference is weight; my DMG Wraith is just over 10lbs and the foams I have in the Hyrax tires were just too soft for this hefty rig. The Hyrax tires will go back to the Bomber and I will use the Pitbull Rock Beast II tires because their foams are much more suited for the heavier Wraith.

I still had a great time pulling off some amazing slow crawls and of course some bouncing!!!

The skully driver was complaining of a sore neck at the end of this run!!! :lmao:
