Bigworm’s SCX24 Build

If you guys want more speed out of the surpass motor , i would siggest going 3S and going up either 16T or 17T pinion. I run my belly dragger scx24 that weights over 500 grams and she moves. 14t and 3S is no slouch. Nice build BIGWORM!

lol. I was eyeballing little 3S battery's to try.

Id love for it to wheelie. Do you think a 11T with a 3S would wheelie?

EDIT:
Ordered a 3S to try.

Sadly, even my 17t on 3s wont wheelie because of worm gears..Need high KV motor for wheelies.Ive got a rock bouncer build in the works and high kv motor.

So I have an 0.5 MOD 3mm ID shaft 11T/13T/14T/15T pinions for the surpass motor and all three move slower than a SNAIL with the surpass motor and mamba micro X. It really doesnt matter what pinion I use. That motor is wonderful when it comes to slow start up. Its excellent. I really like the reverse surpass motor mount too. Not having to cut a single thing is really nice.

The only problem I ran into with the surpass motor is... Depending on what pinion you use. AND depending on what drive shaft you run... you could run into issues with the motor bell hitting the rear axle shaft.

With stock drive shafts, I can get my pinion down to an 11T, and I have like 1mm of space between the surpass motor bell and the rear drive shaft touching. But 11T is super slow on this motor.

I have some no name all metal drive shaft that I picked up somewhere for my RC4WD micro that I never used. They are about 1mm thicker than the stock SCX24 drive shafts. With those installed, the smallest pinion I can run is a 15T. Which still crawls slow as a snail. But I am limited to 15T.

So right now, I have the surpass motor, 15T pinion, mamba micro X and 2S.

Well see what 3S does today. Hopefully it wont snap anything...

Your internal gearing in the transmission.... is that upgraded? Mine is white. Yours looks silver?

And please keep us posted. Im trying to crawl and fling mud at same time! "thumbsup"

Trying to get those rc4wd scramblers (going to cut my c10 body lol) but they are out of stock everywhere and people on ebay are asking $50 + shipping!

They will look funny my friend. They are way too tall. I tried them with my C10.

Oddly enough, I have a 2nd set of scramblers and super soft micro foams that I never used. I went looking for some mud slingers and noticed all the cool micro tires where 50+ too so I might throw my set up on ebay too! :lmao:

I'll slap a set of them on my C10 later tonight for you to see for yourself.

The gears are kyx metal gears on the back side, and Hot racing spur.
I have put this rig together and it is sick. 8000kv 130 motor with Furitek lizard esc. It will slow crawl better than stock even with a much larger pinion, and flat out rip at full throttle. I will be doing a video soon and will post a link here.

I need to get those! I didnt know about those. Thank you.

Yea I got my 3S battery today. Im rocking the 1400KV surpass motor with a 15T pinion and it scooted, but not as fast as I wanted. I think the low 1400kv of my suprass is the issue.

Id like to get one of those furitek ESC's, as the mamba micro is rather big. But mine crawls at a snails pace even with the 15T and 3S as well. I just dont have enough top end to be a true mud flinger. :lmao:

I look forward to seeing you did Unclelee! "thumbsup"

Ugh. I should have sent you my 2nd set. I recently gave a guy at work my 2nd set of brand new scramblers as he bought a SCX24 jeep. He bought some bead locks too.

Today he came to work with the tires GLUED to the metal beadlocks he didnt realize come apart! And he over glued the crap out of them. And some are crooked as heck

It broke my heart to see brand new unobtainable scramblers completely destroyed all due to noob ignorance. :x

Well, we all start somewhere. But sheesh. Bead lock means bead lock right? :x

Oh well. I did my good dead anyway. But what a waist. Next time I will hit u up first. :lmao:

Glued beadlocks. I don't even know what to say to that other than rip. Poor things never stood a chance! Guess that guy was really really new to all this. lol

Prices are crazy right now for 1.0 wheels and tires so I just decided to back order rc4wd stuff on horizon hobby and wait for them to come in stock. Plus my surpass motors aren't getting here until at least another 1-3 weeks on the boat from China.

This is what I have ordered and waiting to arrive...
  • rc4wd scramblers (ordered)
  • rc4wd rock creepers (shipped)
  • rc4wd stamped steel beadlocks (ordered)
  • hbx devastator wheels (shipped)
  • crawler innovations soft foams x4 (shipped)
  • surpass 2204 x2 (ordered)
  • 2fm rc / gamyrc motor mount (shipped)
  • hr 0.5 spur gear (shipped)
  • hr 14t pinion (delivered)
  • furitek tegu esc (ordered)

Waiting for the double barrels shocks to come in stock and that SHOULD be it for this expensive little thing. Actually thinking about it I wanted to get weighted rock sliders because of the surpass motor imbalance you talked about. FML! Funny how a $100 rc can turn into $400+ in additional mods. I'm staying the hell away from 1/10 scale crawlers :lmao:

lol. Yup. he is VERY very new to RC. Good news is, we were able to remove the glued scramblers from the bead locks. Thank god the bead locks where metal. Those where completely glue together...lol. HEat gun and scraper got that all off and them working again on some other tires he also had. The scramblers are soaking in acetone to help remove the sidewall glue.

Anyways! Man you got a boat load of goodies! You are going to love those hbx rims. They push the wheels out perfectly, you can wrap solder around the inside to weight them down. The Scramblers look great on them. And smaller size tires look stretched on the HBX rims if you like that. Lots of options.

The 14T pinion is perfect. It REALLY will move slow as a snail with a good ESC. Mine is rocking the manba micro right now, but I too ordered the tegu! Cant wait to mess with that and its BT dongle and app. But man you are right. These little crawlers and all there options sure do rack up the overall build costs!

Well best of luck and do a build thread! "thumbsup"

WOO HOO! My Furitek TEGU ESC is on its way to my mailbox today! AND! AND! I got some RC4WD mud slingers I had on back order that finally shipped out from Amain!

Bigworm’s SCX24 C-10 Build

To me this is the best esc for micros period! It’s worth the cost. I think I paid 75ish for the top of the line waterproof version with Bluetooth dongle.

75 + 16 for the reverse surpass mount on eBay + 20 bucks for the surpass motor make this thing a super beast! It literally moves so slow you have to look twice to make sure it’s moving.

My mamba micro X with the surpass was so loud. The furitek is silent. I hear NO WHINE at all.

Plus, the tegu version is same size as stock esc. So it goes right in place of the stock one on the tray. The reverse surpass motor mount on eBay doesn’t require you cutting the tray up and you just flip the battery tray and your done!

I highly recommend this setup!
