I've been using Losi's but after building the XR10's shock I will be trying them out. They are smooth and easy to build. I am going to try Losi white, grey and gold springs (harder to softest).

I just upgraded to some Traxxas big bore shocks and Losi mini t springs on my viper and they are awesome!

I believe the majority of xr10 people are running the big bore shocks.

He asked what the best shocks for a comper are. Not, what have you used.

Nothing that is the "Best", will come from another RTR. They maybe popular yes.

They best shocks out there are Kyosho velvet coated ones like from a MP9. they are too large however. The ones from a ZX5 are right. You just need to look at lenghts and then do a rodend mod to the cap just like the Traxxas ones need.

The term "best" is also subjective in this case, unless you happen to have concrete scientific proof to back up your "opinion".

My vote is the losi's

for the viper i run traxxas big bores with the crazy origins caps with silver mini-t up front and mini-t green in the rear

Which Losi shocks? The LCC ones? Without a cap, bleeder hole or bladder? They are an emulsion shock. Hardly what I am looking for in a slow moving crawler. I find them very inconsistant. They will always have air pockets when run inverted and leak like a sieve when run in the normal direction.

I really don't think the ultimate comp shock exists. Just look at all the suggestions in VPs thread.http://http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/vanquish-products/313552-ready-talk-shock.html

Krawlfreak is correct. The best ones are the ones you can make work for you.

Viper XR10s really like Traxxas big bores, with the cap mod, Losi mini-t springs, and the jeepindoug spring cups.
I run the short ones on mine, with long rod ends to limit the articulation, but the long big bores can also be used with very good results.
Just remember, if using the longs, use the rear mini-t springs. If using the shorts, use the front springs.

I have been running the Kyosho Velvet shocks from an RT5 on quite a number of crawlers for a while now and couldnt be happier.

There is no need to modify the top cap, a Traxxas ball will pop right into that cap.

how can you bash the crap out of a specific shock and say "whatever works for you" in the same breath?

get over yourself dude.

I have run the losi shocks and the axial shocks and in my opinion the axial shocks with losi gold springs are smooth as silk and work great! Just tune with shock oil that you find to work best and change the spring to suit your needs. That's my opinion. No sense in spending crazy money when you already have a great shock in your hands.

Anyone using the scx shocks with good results?

yup, i think theyre making a pretty big splash right now. ive been running them for the past month and realy like them. they are smooth and i like the small size they offer. i also like that i can stand them up a little bit more than my bigbores (which are my all time favorite shocks). the only downfall for me is the fact that they leak like crazy. its a big problem for me atleast. i dont mind refilling them but it shouldnt even be an issue like it is:evil:
