Axial Teaser - Any Guesses?

There are positives about it. I believe they need to drop the price a bit. It will sell if it’s on the tables on display at say… KOH? They missed their timing for that though. Expected delivery in what seems like forever. It’s a beast of a truck for sure.

Forgot to mention this is Axial’s attempt number, what, 5 at a caged vehicle (Wraith, Bomber, Capra, Ryft, and now Hoolihan) and they are still using a gigantic skid and the geometry still sucks.

At $580, you look to be joining a beta test with some of the laughable and embarrassing flaws with the design of this rig.

If the main new feature is a cutting brake, they should have worked on getting that perfected if nothing else. But as is expected with Axial these days, they don’t even get that working properly.

I just don’t see any positives to draw me in.

That’s one of those good in theory marketing hypes, but not all that effective in reality.
It's not a panacea, but it does help, I'm not seeing much torque twist in videos.

I do wonder how much of the tire woes is the foams, they seem pretty stiff, I'm not seeing much tire flex.

Overall I like the rig, but I don't do RTRs. I worry about the servo horn position, seems pretty easy to hit on rocks.

The 1.9s have a grid style reinforcement molded inside the carcass of the tire. Even with no insert, they are hard. Not sure if these are gonna be the same. I didnt see anything specifying the compound so i assume it's their old crappy r35.

Servo horn does look like it's gonna take some hits.

It's interesting to see their interpretation of what the customer base wants. I for one love me some 2.2's in that they really help in our large chunky rock. That said, it's a portal 2.2, so that's also interesting. We run our custom Capra as a portal 2.2, and it's like a spider monkey in the rough terrain.

Strip way the electronics, and is this pretty close to a 2.2" Capra?

That servo horn also caught my eye. I wonder just how much R&D trail time they do during development.

I was also hoping for something 1/6th scale, but I think the price point freaks out the bulk of Axial's customer base.

Find this post hilarious folks, been on this place long enough to know, no matter what ya get offered ... ya'll always bitch when something new is offered  the joys of online and opinions :ROFLMAO:
I won't lie, I really don't mind it all that much. I think it's pretty neat other than the features I've commented on. I wouldn't buy it, there's been a fair amount of noticeable cut corners (shock mounts, axle housing, upper link mounts, etc.) that almost match the amount of interesting features. The axle internals look pretty decent, as do the shocks (in my opinion). The torque twist fix is a pretty neat design, I hope they implement it on more of their trucks. I also like the idea of the cutting brake, and from the videos I've seen there's really not all that much play in the drivetrain. It's a neat platform with a lot of potential, I just can't understand some of the decisions that were made on this truck, a good few of which feel like steps backwards in terms of quality and design.

Lotta legitimate concerns raised here along with personal feelings and I'll just say regarding another strictly personal feeling on aesthetics... I'm kinda tired of tube buggy style crawlers. I dig em to a degree ( I have two) but I really like an actual body more. Dunno why really. Again... just personal taste and maybe I've just seen too many tubed rigs lately.

I guess to add to that and maybe to contradict my words a bit, I absolutely feel like VP slayed it with the Optic. Those rigs looks so damn nice from top to bottom/ inside and out... quality plastics, great designs, etc. I think I've read every VP build thread on RCC and they still impress me.

Summed up my thoughts. On a positive note, it does make the Ryft look like a quality bargain right now, considering what you get RTR.

I laugh,

too, because it wasn't that long ago, there wasn't SHIT available PERIOD.

TLT axles, pede transmission ls, walmart bodies, clodbuster axles, custom cut and shut tires!,blah, blah,

Brazed brakeline, HELLO anyone remember, oh, maybe not so much any more ! You had to be a skilled artist to make a caged rig. Now you can pick one of X and buy now, lol !!!!!!!!

New crowd. Buy, buy, buy, assemble, drive, judge, bitch, em........????? IDK

Or the RTR crew drive, break, bitch, upgrade? .........

Hey, you know what? I was told at a couple of hobby stores, way back when you still had to diy your (crawler, scaler, wtf, ever) that this hobby would NEVER take off.

I'd love to see their face now and throw a bit of shit in it if they did still owned those LHS's

However, long gone!

Well, i was trying to be optimistic on this, but I've had a little bourbon so I'll let it go.

The axles look like kmart toy grade crap. Servo and screws in plain view from the front, servo arm hanging low to get smashed on rocks, tape hiding the gaps from molding seams. Single shear upper link mounts, backwards ass screws on front shocks. Why pick scale tires with a shit compound for an "extreme performance" rig? Doesn't make sense. They're under the horizon umbrella with proline. Make some damn performance tires with predator compound.

They arent new to the caged buggy world. They've had multiple versions. It looks like rather than come up with real solution for small problems, they were trying to rush it out to hit a deadline or something. What deadline? VP has already released a nice caged buggy so they arent beating them to the market. Christmas has passed by almost 2 months so that rush is gone. Take your damn time and make it right.

I assume they were rushing to get this out in time for KOH.

I do love the idea of a cutting brake. I was brainstorming a way to make a Cowper truck that had them and a ton of wheelspeed. Now that the parts are out there or coming soon it should be doable, straight axles would be better but whatever. I think learning to drive like that might take time an it will probably eat parts for breakfast so... I'm in no rush.

I like that Axial made this but an RTR isnt in the cards for me at the moment.

Also regarding the tape on the rear axle, all we know is that we've only seen pre production versions so far. Maybe they actually fixed this already? We'll see soon.

Kinda looks gimmicky. Thrown together perhaps.
The cab part just looks a little off to me. The angle of the front roll bars for the cab seem a lil steep.

I am curious if the cage will work with an AR60 up front with a top mounted servo. Love my Bomber but I'm tired of the trailing arms.
if ar60s are to small we have ryft axles there still reasonably priced for metal aftermarket axles and ive had good luck with the ones i have so far
it really depends on the size of the cage

I thought some people used to convert them to a normal 4 link setup back in the day?
