Axial Teaser - Any Guesses?

Axial should hire some of us on here to design their next rig. I have a few names I'd love to throw under the bus as a designers, lol, you know who I'm talking about. !!!!

However, I'm sure most of you all already have jobs.

Even as an Axial fan, I definitely don't have high hopes for this thing. I've never seen much of a market for 1/8 scale trucks, it's a bit of an odd decision. I feel like it would've worked better as an SCX6 based buggy. It also looks a lot like a Gmade GOM with the back end cut off imo. It's also got some hints of Optic in the styling with the roof.

The shock mounts are different, I'm not sure how I feel about them. I'd have to see it in action.

What I am mildly worried about are the upper link mounts for the axle. I have never seen mounts like this on anything except for old Tamiyas and the stuff I find at Walmart. It's an interesting truck, I'm curious to see how it ends up handling, but I personally am going to have to pass on this one.
 
I can see rock lights, no external springs on the shocks, and some new Mickey Thompson Baja Boss's.

Ouch yeah that upper link mount on the axle is out of the stone age lol that kinda sucks
 
It has a shift servo of some sort. That popped up if you search Axial Gilamon on the Googles. I saw someone say ASD is axle selectable disconnect so it is front or rear dig. Not sure if that is correct.
I like that there's a new 2.2 tire choice now though.

Dont get too excited. Axial's compound sucks.
 
Well if Axial is one thing, it is that they are consistent. They consistently let me down with crap. Who wants a 2.2 buggy? The 2.2 segment has consistently not been popular. 1.9 rigs are already so capable that there aren't many people clamoring for rigs with even more capability.

The 1.9 Capra had a terrible transmission and bad geometry to match. I don't expect much more from this rig.

Here's another Axial that I won't be buying.

That's true, there definitely was a gap for something like that. I don't feel like Axial's had a 2.2 truck since the Bomber, and I think that's been gone for like a year and a half now

I think someone at axial might have mixed up their AM and PM when they set a timer for the site to go live at 8:15. Lol
 
I'm all in for more trail tube buggies! Cant wait to see Logan's (West Desert Wheeler) vid.
Will it replace my 4ws Optic, probably not.

Kudos for finally getting a cutting brake type setup going. I guess time will tell how reliable it is. It is a nice looking rig.

I'm not a buyer though. The only place I can think of that it would be fun to drive is our local off road park where I wheel my Jeep and I'm not going to pay admission to play with this.
 
I will also be sitting this one out.

I got rid of my 2.2 rigs and don't ever see myself buying another one. The Wraith, Bomber, and Ryft were fun for a few packs but the novelty of the larger size wore off quick.

Outside of the general size, there are a few things that don't thrill me:

- Once you add all the locking/unlocking components to the transmission and front axle, this thing has to have crazy rotational slop in the drivetrain. The SCX10III was good for like a 1/4 turn of the tire from all the slop in that drivetrain, no way this has less.
- The center skid is enormous for something that is supposed to be all about capability.
- The axles pumpkins look AR60 levels of chunky
- Single sheer on the tie rod mounting screws? Axial went through the effort to make the Ryft knuckles double sheer on both the tie rod and drag link even when the rest of the truck was crap
-The driver heads look so cheap being molded in black. You can make it work when the heads are full face helmets but not when they are supposed to be human faces. Hit them with some paint at the factory and make it look like you tried.
 
The upper link mounting should have been double sheer too! It's weird the have the upper screws holding the shock with threaded side out. And the tie rod is below the drag link, seems dumb to put it lower
Nearly the whole link setup seems weird. The front uppers have this crazy bend for what I assume is clearance but I don't see anything that requires that much bend to clear. Then the lower links are all straight even though they are at an angle that looks pretty close to maxing out the movement of the rod ends.
 
Yeah, this is another 2.2 Axial I will take a pass on. It has a nice profile at a distance, but I am not impressed by what I see in the finish and details up close.
Large crawlers don't generally interest me and this rig certainly won't change that. I would sooner grab the UTB18 from Axial than this.

 
Seems this thing isn't being marketed to veteran crawlers that have experience with suspension design, etc. I see this as just another hyped-up release that will appeal to the "bigger must mean better" crowd that won't be objectively critical. Axial is hoping for the "I want it cause it's big" folks to bust out their wallets. Factory and aftermarket upgrades will keep it rolling along but I think their audience for this one will be virgin crawlers that lack scrutiny. Personally not in the market but if I was I'd pass too.
