Axial Teaser - Any Guesses?

I set an alarm for 9:00 AM tomorrow (02.13.25) just in case I fall asleep and forget.
Yup, looks like I didn't miss much of anything. After I recover from the flu I'll go back to restoring my original 2.2 AX10 rigs--I'm pretty sure that with one of the dig transmissions I have lying around and some 2.2 HB Rovers in the white compound, I can hit better lines.
Seems this thing isn't being marketed to veteran crawlers that have experience with suspension design, etc. I see this as just another hyped-up release that will appeal to the "bigger must mean better" crowd that won't be objectively critical. Axial is hoping for the "I want it cause it's big" folks to bust out their wallets. Factory and aftermarket upgrades will keep it rolling along but I think their audience for this one will be virgin crawlers that lack scrutiny. Personally not in the market but if I was I'd pass too.
Ok, some basic spec reading says that this isn't really bigger than the Ryft (or Bomber), and some early YT videos confirm this just by looking at the scale of the vehicle compared to a person. Not any shade thrown your way, just saying it's not even really "bigger" than anything we've already had.

They are offering aluminum body panels as an upgrade...Trying to beat the aftermarket to the punch?

well..I am kinda disappointed too. Those axles are lame and brushed setup for that price in this day and age is outrageous. I dont think that rig is even worth a shelf queen :cautious:

I'm talking more along the lines of what's currently available and the Gilamon fills that limited niche. No doubt that if they sell decently there will be revisions coming but as it sits right now it just doesn't look all that appealing. I like some of the innovative features like the ASD but just not my cup of tea. Will be interesting to see what kind of support comes along.

The only thing I really don't like about the axles is the fit of the cover and that tape they used to cover the split on the housing. The feature it offers is very cool imo. Much more effective than dig. I'd have to figure a way to clamp that properly to cover that with not tape... it's like they had a f-up in the injection molding process and just said screw it. Tape!

I haven't watched any videos yet, but the suspension geometry just looks off to me. A few people mentioned some things I also spotted. The Capra never had great geometry. The Capra was also plagued with a terrible transmission, and this has that same potential unless they nailed it this time around.

I just don't understand who asked for this. Axial could not have done much market research. We live in a new era. 1.9 rigs are so capable that there is little to no need for 2.2 rigs for most of us.

Someone's got to say it... since Jato went soft I guess I'll throw it out there

Bitch, bitch, bitch.

Everybody wants something different. All I hear is not another Jeep / SCX10 / whatever.

Then something different comes out and it's the axles are too chunky/the transmission has too much slop/the skid is too fat/the tires suck/the geometry sucks/color sucks/the wheels suck/ everything sucks.

Vanquish comes out with variable overdrive and it's the greatest thing since the invention of sliced bread. Axial comes out with a cutting brake and it's pointless/who needs that/dumb, etc.

How many different versions of basically similiar 1.9 comp trucks does everyone want?

I’m usually on your side of the argument, and I try to be positive about new releases. I’m struggling to find many redeeming qualities on this one though.

Just my opinion but the axial line has been pretty stale and disappointing since the Capra.

I don’t get the feeling axial is invested in the hobby or hobbyists.

Apparently people have been asking for a 1/6 Capra. Maybe this is their compromise? Something like this in 1/6 scale would be $$$$.

I've been getting rid of 2.2s...... Just got rid of an unbuilt Bomber & Ryft Kit.

No interest in picking up a 2.2. 1/10 with Class 3 tires maybe, but not anything larger than that for my collection. Only 2.2 I'll keep around is probably my GOM.

this is what I had seen on the comments of all the new releases ... most wanted or asked for a 1/6 capra ... I agree with you as their response and compromise to hear the buyers. The only issue is that most will need a big space to run these buggies to at least test them on the correct grounds. It is hard to please everyone and I think they did ok perhaps too many shortcomings to cut costs because R&D cost and given that the scx6 is having issues selling as the price is high settling this option more affordable.

Someone's got to stir the pot once in a while. :)

Personally, I like it. I'm not sure I $579 like it, but I think it's pretty decent. The cutting brake has my interest more than anything else.

I'm down with 2.2 trucks, just have to look for different lines than the same ones I hit with my 1.9 trucks. Thankfully I have a few good spots nearby to give the bigger trucks a workout.

All my rigs are 1/6-1/8 scales 2.2s, I like 1/10s just fine, but I like the bigger rigs more. The cutting brakes are cool, I like the cage well enough, generally not a portal guy, but I could entertain it. The price is kinda hard to swallow. I was excited to have another 5.5" 2,2 tire on the market but Harley has already said the compound is complete garbage, so that sucks. Glue-on wheels is pretty lame at that price as well. Guessing there won't be a kit version.

I watched Harley's video but I think I'll pass on this 1.
At that price maybe include the Fusion 8ight 2300kv.

Well I’ll wait for you to put your money where your mouth is and buy one. If you wait a year, I bet you will get them on sale. Then I’ll get to see one in the real world.

For those of us that have been around the hobby for a while, we expect more. New ideas with poor execution aren’t good enough. Who designed this half-baked thing - FMS? And what the hell is up with the name? I’ll just call it the Hoolihan. I will say it’s painfully obvious that Axial rubber still sucks and those tires really hold this truck back.

There are a few design jokes on this rig:
1. Front shock mount. Hilarious!
2. Axle seam tape. Now I’m really laughing.
3. A cutting brake that won’t reliably disconnect (oh wait that’s just typical Axial)
4. The not-droop droop shocks.
5. The suspension geometry.

One of the things I noticed in a running video that I haven't seen mentioned, the driveshafts spin in opposite directions to minimize torque twist.
That’s one of those good in theory marketing hypes, but not all that effective in reality.

The best part of this is that Vanquish just reduced the price of the H10 Optic RTR. Competition is good for us, the consumers.
