any crawlers in MN?

Does anyone have a camera to bring for the gtg next Saturday? I don't want to use my phone if I don't have to-I just got my phone bill and Yikes!!! T-mobile charges a lot for those picture messages!!

i have a dig. camera , i'll bring it , as long as i can find the place and time :flipoff:

is anyone goin out this weekend to toy around?

Unfortunately no. I'll be out of town for a family emergency. I'm gonna try and bust out that new chassis for the GTG though. I plan on making it. If it's not done for some reason, I'll just come hang out and watch Troy with the SW2 and P4. Maybe he'll let me drive his TLT's.

If by chance you don't get your tuber ready for the GTG, its no problem running one of mine, you can help me give that P4 a good test thrashing. I also should have my clod Red Raider ready by then, actually I think I'm gonna wire it up tonight since I'm waiting on parts for the P4 build and I'm held up on that.
I did crash my RC10 T-4 pretty bad today also, so I've got some repairs to make on that, but I think I'll try and finish the clod tonight.

This P4 chassis is awesome so far, I can't wait to get it up and running when my mail gets here Sat or Mon with my Rooster and Stealth. The articulation on this thing is great, not too much, not too little, no binding of shocks or links anywhere. I can't wait to see what it does on the rocks.

Wheres J been??

I've recently purchased a nice new Sony Dig 8-megapixal (3" LCD touchscreen, oooOOooo:mrgreen: ). It takes awsome pics and nice video w/sound. i had it at the last GTG, but I was just having too much fun running the trucks around I kinda forgot to takes some pics (only got one).

I've been wanting to get out one of these weekends, but they've all been pretty busy (that usually doesn't happen). But this weekend is, so far, free. I'd like to take a look at this place close to the Bloomington police station or even under the 35W bridge on Black Dog.
I'd be up for running around Sat or Sun. Early/Mid afternoon or so...

I'm free this Sat anytime 2pm or later. Hopefully it's not raining like it is today:evil:

BTW I just ordered some rims and tires...hopefully I get 'em by next weekend;-)

Post up guys if anyone wants to meet Sat under 35W bridge, Blackdog Rd exit.

Yeah, 2:00 sounds OK. Like Nicklepimp said, hopefully the weather works for us. My WeatherBug says its supposed to be a halfway decent day. Clouds in the morning clearing in the afternoon with a high of 65.

hey all, I'm baaaaack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been having alot of serious shat goin down. So lets just say I got divorced from a woman I've never married!? troy, if your still interested in the esc and motors, I do still have them. I will be also there at the GTG on the 29th, just to show yall how its done.:-P :flipoff: I want to get my maxx crawler finished, but thats not lookin like its gonna be happining, I also have to get the TQ3 finished for eric. I'll try to frequent here a lil more often, and try to be a lil more active role here.

Just an FYI... Denny won't be there. He's been very busy nearly every weekend going out of town for different things and the 29th is going to be one of those weekends. I think he had only one weekend in April that he wasn't busy, and that was the first one. Oh well...

What do you guys say at this meeting that we take some time and have a meeting about the direction and focus of our "MN collaborative crawlers" group. It would be a good idea to have a direction if we are going to start our own club. I think we could benefit from a business plan. Maybe spend some time talking about position elections. I know Jay and I, along with Troy, all kind of got the ball rolling about a MN crawling group, but I would like to see it take off and be successful, and maybe there is someone out there who could do a better job, or has more time to invest than me or others. Thoughts on maybe a 6wk summer crawling season? Maybe we could partner with MWRCA and hold travelling events? The "superbowl" could be held at one place every year? Just throwing out ideas to get gears turning.

2pm under the bridge sounds like a plan to me. I was thinking about the weather-if it is raining we should be ok-we're under a bridge(duh:lol: ).
Glad to see you back Freek!

I like the idea of creating a plan and being more organized. The more coordinated we are, the easier it will be to become an 'official club'. Also an agreement on the official title would be appropriate. What about a logo after the name descision? By the way I'm willing to help out in any way I can; I'm usually checking this site every day or so.

I Second Eric's motion on taking some time at the April 29th GTG to decide on a direction and focus for this group, and maybe toss around some name idea's.

I guess my thoughts on a club are.
Since the MWRCA (Midwest RockCrawling Association) is already recently listed here at RCC as a club/org, and we are in the Midwest. It might be simpler/better to just form a MN chapter of the MWRCA.
We can still have our on Mn group, logo, name etc, but run under the sanctioning rules of the MWRCA and run in their comps and maybe a couple regional gtgs or events yearly. It looks as though by those pic's, they have a nice spot for this June comp, and I'm excited to be part of that. I'm also excited about the future of this group, and really looking forward to this GTG.
I'm also happy cause TGIF!!!

I'll see whoever makes it to tomorrows bashing session under the 35W bridge off of Black dog Rd, tomorrow at 2:00.

J, or any of you guys, you don't happen to have an extra Pede tranny you would sell do you??
LMK ASAP, I'm in the hunt for One quickly for a build I'm wanting to finish up.

Lets hear from you guys who haven't posted up yet about showing up for the Sat April 29th GTG.

Troy,

I think there is a large enough group now in MN to really get something going, which is awesome! I look forward to this opportunity as well. I am going to PM the guys from MWRCA and see what their views on regional structuring are, and what/how to proceed at this point. Would it be cooler to have local comps in addition with some regional comps, or have more regional comps with a few local ones? I'll post up when I know more. I just think it's time to make a move now that we have more numbers. We just need to find out who's serious about getting involved with a formal group. I hope to be able to find that out at the 4/29 GTG. Hopefully the attendance should be able to serve as a good reference of the numbers we are dealing with. If there are people that are not going to be able to make, but are interested in becoming an active member of a formal organization, please post up. Thanks!

Eric

Edit: Troy, freek has a TLT at my house that is kind of torn apart that has a lathe and pede in it. You might want to ask him what his plans are for it. I know at onw point he was going to sell it, but that was a while ago and I haven't heard either way, so maybe you could pick it up? I still have you 1:6 Nylint remote at my house, so if I don't see you before the GTG, I'll make sure I bring that with. It's been sitting on the shelf and I forgot about it. Sorry.

I think the more regional comps and a few local comps would be my choice, while I'm not that big on the drives ( if we get organized we can car-pool) I think the larger potential turnout of regional comps is more appealing to me. I've mentioned it to the Ia and Ill guys, and they wouldn't be opposed to driving up here for a comp. And I think this camping weekend comp coming up in June is gonna be a blast.

Eric, is J's phone working? If you talk to him, ask about that pede, I have motors, just need the tranny, I put an offer in on a FS add, but haven't bought cause he's not on-line, I'd rather get it from J locally so I can get it like NOW!!!

Jay's phone I think is broken so he's using is girls'. I haven't talked to him in a while, I don't knwo what he's been up to. HE said he was going to come by and pick up that TLT like 1.5 weeks ago, but never heard back. I spoke with him at that point about him building me a TQ3 w/ RS, but again haven't heard anything. I think he's just busy with other stuff right now. He did say something about getting his Monet Carlo running, so I'm sure he's gung-ho on that.

For my thoughts on this... I'd like to see more Local, only local(MN) as our "counted" comps. Even someting like a Duluth weekend once a year (2.5 - 3 hour drive tops). I'm sure there are more places around here that are good for crawling and within an hour or 1.5 hour drive. They just need to be found, or we just need to go there. (ie: Minnesota River Valley, Taylors Falls, maybe even places around Minnehaha)

If people want to go to the MW comps, then by all means go and be part of that. But don't include them as part of a MN thing. Not everyone can or will want to travel to an out-of-state comp.
So what happens is that those that do not go (to the comps out-of-state) will end up "out of the running" of any kind "scoreing season(or however you want to put it)". Keep MN comps seperate.

Personally. i'm not into the whole travaling to Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, etc, just to run some RC's. Take this comp in June, it's a 5+ hour trip. Yeah we could car pool, but it's still 5 HOURS, one way. It's not for me.

It's good to get peoples thoughts on this subject, keep them coming.

I have no problem myself in keeping the group/club a MN thing.
My thoughts on the comps is, we could run a Mn only point series , the comps out of state with the MWRCA wouldn't need to count in the MN point series. We could always run under either the MWRCA sanctioning rules (which are very close to RCC's) or make our own. while I realize not everyone can, wants to, or is able to drive 5 hours for a comp, there are those of us who enjoy camping, camaraderie of lots of other crawlers, have never been in a comp, want to meet, beat, and compete with some of the other near by out of state guys . (Once and a while).
While I'm certainly not into a 5 hour drive on a monthly basis, this hobby does require some driving to get to the good spots. MN river valley, Mississippi river valley, St Croix, Duluth, etc etc.
My reasoning behind becoming a Mn chapter of the MWRCA is, I think its gonna take forever to get a serious core group of 15 guys to meet regularly for crawling gtg's or to get any decent size comps going. I know good things take time, but whats the harm in affiliating ourselves with the MWRCA ? Not like we would need to participate in all or any of their gtg's, but those of us that want to run in their comp/s and maybe invite them to Mn for a big comp of our own?
The being part of the MWRCA thing would be pretty much name recognition, we would/could still be an independent MN club.

I'm sorry this post got so long and my thought track jumbled, I got like 4 phone calls and 5 pm's while writing this.

In short closing: my thoughts are. I would like to see this group, as an example, become The MNRCRC (Minnesota Radio Controll RockCrawlers) chapter of the MWRCA (Midwest RockCrawling Association). Simply put, the guys who would wanna run in the comp/s out of state could do that, and run in the Mn only point series. The Two wouldn't have to have anything to do with each other. And I think it would be great to host our own Mn chapter MWRCA Mn comp once a summer aside from the MN point series or Mn gtg's.

One of my favorite ex g/f's mom owns a little stock car track in Wi, I used to work for her. All the small tracks across Mn and Wi and Ia combined to run what they call the WISOTA or something like that classes in racing, without those small tracks cooperating with each other, they more then likely wouldn't survive. I fear the same could happen with a Mn only club. Getting and keeping a serious core group if 15 together regularly for RCC's clubs listings might be hard on our own.
Maybe not? Like Rerock said, this April 29 gtg should be a good gauge of interest. We shall see then.
I'm hoping for a good turnout!!

Adogg, the Duluth area would be good, those of us who like camping and 1:1 wheeling could make a weekend out of it.

I'll see who ever makes it tomorrow under the bridge at 2:00.
Damn, look at the time, I'd better get working or I won't be ready to run.;-)

Anyway, can we get some other peoples thoughts on this subject??
