AnimalHippie's Trx-4 Adventure

Someone needs a Holmes Hobbies t-shirt:

JRH kinda being a fellow hippie (or at least a tie-dye enthusiast), you need a Holmes powerplant, ESC, or servo in one of your rigs - tout suite... "thumbsup"

Found some time to tinker a bit :) fabricated myself a steel bumper. It started life as a worn out front yolk for a lawn mower in a scrap pile. The weight is somewhere around 6oz. Not big on the sprung weight but it'll do till I can buy some axle weight. Here's some pics!

Finally bought a scale to start weighing my parts/rig. Found that the stock bumper with the added weight 4- 1oz lead weights comes in at 5.6oz. My steel bumper that I made last week weighs 7.3oz which is more then I like. So I have some more weight trimming I need to do to get it to the 6oz Mark I'm shooting for. Not a huge fan of sprung weight though it does give the body more of a realistic movement. Once I get a stronger servo, metal links & some axle weight I'll probably build a new bumper out of aluminum to drop some of that sprung weight.

Had some wheel time yesterday on the back yard course. Definitely enjoyed that. Had a buddy over that has never wheeled anything nor drove a hobby grade rc. Even with a driver with no experience the Trx-4 crawled all over the place. I was very impressed once again. I think I might have gotten someone else hooked into the hobby :)

Will be doing some weight reduction mods next time I get some time in the garage. Will make sure to take some before & after pics & weight just in case someone else is interested in shaving a few grams here and there. Hope everyone has a great day.

Spent a little time doing some weight reduction stuff on my rig yesterday while I was watching the girls make mud pies in the backyard. First removed my plastic bed cover & used a piece of sheet aluminum for a new bed cover. Lost 23 grams by switching to aluminum. Will be painting & installing it tomorrow. Used the dremel to remove a few grams from the rear fender brace & from the back body brace. Over all lost 7 grams of weight by modifying the braces. Here's a few pics of the braces. My cuts aren't the prettiest & could use a bit of clean up, but was running short on time due to a big thunderstorm rolling in as I was finishing them. Have a great day!

Found some tinker time in between honey do's today :) finished up the new bed cover. Lost 23 grams in total switching to the aluminum. Just finished up glueing it all in place. Also glued my fender flares to the body while I had the E6000 out. Have pulled 6 flare bolts through the flares so far. Gonna run a pack through it tomorrow if I get a chance. Here's some pics

Hope no one else had a Monday like me. Goodbye s10! Thank you random dumb arse 16yr old. I'm a little sore, but ok. Wasn't my fault by any means.

Thanks for your concerns guys! A little more sore & airbag burns more pronounced today. Took the day off work to recover a bit. Insurance is coming to get the truck tomorrow. Hope they give me something for it seeing how I wasn't at fault. The ol S10 held up pretty good. Crunched up allot more then you'd think for 35mph tho.

Glad you're doing ok today!!! Tomorrow is when you will really start to feel bumps you didn't know you had. ;-)

Charging up the batteries for a run in the woods at the in-laws tomorrow. "thumbsup" Hope the mosquitoes don't carry me away.:ror: Will definitely post up some pics. Going to try to get some more video as well. There are some really cool spots out there.

Cut some aluminum tube to 5mm for slider spacers. With the longer hardware & the spacers I gained 3grams 1.5g per side. Also cut my rock slides down for less hang ups. Weight probably equaled out from doing that. Also flipped the front bumper mount & trimmed front fenders. Liking the new approach angle. Looks much better with the sliders being tight to the body & gained some clearance on the sides. Here's a pic of what I used. Found it at Lowes for 2 & some change.

Went for a crawl out at the in-laws house yesterday. Had a blast crawling around a cave entrance that's out in the woods. About got carried away by the mosquitoes & my clothes were soaked like I had jumped in a pool. Good ol Florida summer 90° with 90% humidity. Hope you guys enjoy!
