And brushless for all...

My esc's never get that hot. And again, I must be doing something wrong, I haven't cooked anything on 3s on any of my stuff. I'm still using a MMP, no case, dipped in plastidip, sealed in an electronics box running a Novak 550 4.5 (granted its 2 pole) in my Wraith. Been in there for years, has to have at least 75 3s packs through it. Inhave no idea how hot the ESC gets in there but the case electronics box gets really hot. I forget the gearing but it runs about 25mph. Still going strong but definitely needs some motor bearings. Parts always break, more so on 3s but they can be replaced with stronger parts that don't break. Electronics don't have to cook.... even on 3s.

And as for airflow, my SCT's have very little. No vents in the practice body with air guards to seal the sides and prevent parachuting. No cool down time and 10 minute lapping sessions on 7600mah. Granted it's mostly on and off with less switching but this is for temp comparisons so it's good enough. Years ago some brushed motor manufacturers said they had a minimum operating temp of 150 if I remember correctly? It was about 20 years ago.

I wonder how many watts mono or stereo that puts out for the size of that rather massive heat sink?

How many watts does a little 540 motor pull under load with an ESC with a tiny little heatsink

I not personally sure you can compare audiophile level gear and tiny ESC's but that's just me.

I'm just musing ultimately.

The bottom line: I cannot get wheelspeed and crawling with a 3S rig. I can have crawling OR wheelspeed but not both.

I imagine with a big ESC and a 550 sized motor I could easily have both.

A good brushed motor will do both easily on 3s but you gotta pay to play. Holmes can set it up. You don't always need a bigger ESC, the MMP has surprised me for years and with it being discontinued you can get them for a great price.

Home amps, 100% biased into class A.

This one is about 10 inches tall, and it's the baby one. It easily heats a room better than a space heater.

Pass labs are awesome by the way.

The ambient tempreture where i am is about 4C / 40F most days so pretty cold just now but with running 3s, 21t motor and a heavyish SCX10 with low gearing.
The only time i've had issues with my temps was when i was a hill walk for a few hours and parts of it were very rocky and other parts up to the axles in mud. Battery and esc (Hobbywing 1080) were ice cold but motor needed a 5 minute rest at one stage. Any other time i've been out the motor doesn't even get warm

I'd imagine if it was a really hot day i'd maybe only get away with a 35t motor but i'd still find the wheel speed on that acceptable on 3s with even the lowest gearing.

Most of the truck is lower quality budget parts like Boom Racing / Integy / Xtra Speed etc but the diffs, driveshafts and axle shafts are still standard and after about 20 miles on it nothing has broken so far.

I would love to hear the story behind the need for so much power to run that thing hot. It isnt even in my realm of imagination. You can't be taking home audio? Chit chat maybe?

Yeah sorry to derail. Pass Labs Aleph 3. 450 watt toroidal transformer, puts out 30 watts per channel and produces 250 watts of heat. Not huge numbers but it's hot. There's hotter.

Alright enough from me about that.
